  • In this article, piezoelectric films and their application for film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) devices are presented. The FBAR is composed of piezoelectric film sandwiched between top and bottom electrodes and an acoustic reflector of SiO$_2$/W slatted multilayers. Various FBAR devices were fabricated and evaluated through simulation and measurement. The insertion loss, return loss and Q-factor were observed to be reasonably high and good. The FBAR technology seems very promising particularly for RF band filter application.

  • The air filter in engine intake system has a function of filtrating the dirt in the scavenging air as well as attenuating the noise. The noise attenuation within the air cleaner filter, however, has been regarded as negligible by the field engineers. In this paper, for the analysis of the acoustical performance of air filter, an acoustical model was suggested and the characteristics of air filter system were investigated. Fibrous structure of the filter element was modeled as a micro-perforated panel using the flow resistivity and porosity. The pleated geometry of the filter element was modeled as two coupled ducts that have permeable walls, in which each duct area was assumed being constant. Using such simplified geometry, a mathematical model was developed for the sound propagation within a narrow duct system. Visco-thermal effect was considered in modeling the sound propagation through such tubes; the filter box was modeled as a rigid rectangular box. By combining two models, a four-pole transfer matrix was derived. For the validation purpose, transmission loss was measured for a plastic rectangular box containing an air filter. A noticeable effect of the air filter element was observed by including the filter into the box. Comparing the predicted and measured data, we found that the predicted TL agrees well with experimental results, in particular, in magnitude and frequency at TL troughs.

  • In this paper, a design method of the compact narrow band filter on the microstrip board is proposed using slot-type split spiral resonators. The design technique of this filter is based on cascading filter stages consisting of the combination of slot-type split spiral resonators, capacitive gaps between patches, and inductive grounded stubs with the meander configuration. By these means, it was possible to get the nearly symmetric frequency responses, adjustable bandwidths, compact sizes. And also excellent characteristic of the out-of-band rejection is achieved in contrast to the conventional filter design technique. The measured insertion loss shows good results about -3.47dB at the center frequency($f_0$=1GHz) and passband return loss is less than -12.62dB. The 3dB fractional bandwidth(FBW) is approximately 7.3%. The results of the frequency response measured on the fabricated band pass filter substrate show satisfactory agreement with the simulated frequency responses by the MWS(Microwave Studio) of CST in the region of interest.

  • In this paper, the T-SRR (Triple Split Ring Resonator) using MNG (mu-Negative) meta-material adapted in a low-loss bandpass filter with 3-stages is suggested. The size of the T-SRR in the proposed bandpass filter with low dielectric constant PCB can be easily controlled. And the ${\lambda}/4$ transmission line theory is applied. The proposed T-SRR and filter have the center frequency of 10 GHz with QL value of 184 for military-satellite communication system in I band. The experimental results of the filter show that the insertion and return losses are 1.44 dB and 17.3 dB with bandwidth of 10 %, respectively. The proposed filter will be redesigned by IPD material etc. should be placed here. These instructions give you guidelines for preparing papers for JICCE.

  • In this paper, $3^{rd}$ overtone mode energy-trapped filter using modified $PbTiO_3$ system ceramics was manufactured to apply for intermediate frequency SMD-type filter with the variations of splitted electrode size. To investigate the effects of splitted electrode size on filter characteristics of $3^{rd}$ overtone mode energy-trapped filter, ceramic wafers were fabricated by etching splitted rectangular electrode size($b{\times}d$) of b=0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1mm, d=0.3, 0.4, 0.5mm, respectively. And then, SMD-type ceramic filter were fabricated with the size of $3.7{\times}3.1mm$. With the variations of b size, insertion loss, 3dB bandwidth and 25dB stop bandwidth showed nearly constant value, but with the variations of d size, insertion loss, 3dB bandwidth, selectivity(shape factor) decreased.⨀؀က?⨀Ⴣ?⨀਀Ⴣ?⨀ꞻꎀ̀ကꮻꎀༀ뮻ꎀ᠀Ȁ햻ꎀĀힻꎀȀ?ꎀ̀?ꎀȀꎀĀꎀĀꎀĀꎀĀꎀЀȀꎀࠀꎀഀڼꎀഀᒼꎀ؀ᮼꎀ䈀ȀȀ悼ꎀऀ檼ꎀഀȀ禼ꎀഀ螼ꎀऀȀȀ鎼ꎀഀȀꊼꎀഀ낼ꎀࠀ즼ꎀԀ쾼ꎀ܀ힼꎀ

  • In this paper, the circuit analysis of three-dimensional bandpass filter with transmission zero in multi-layer printed circuit board is presented. The equivalent circuit of bandpass filter is evaluated by microwave network analysis. Compare to the established paper that have configured the circuit model of filter except the effect of distribute element, the proposed model can include the effect. As a result, the multi-layer PCB bandpass filter with transmission zero has designed by extracting mutual capacitance from electrical component inside inductor. The structure size is only $10mm{\times}20mm{\times}1.251mm$. Measured data of the bandpass filter indicate 1.9 dB of insertion loss and 28 dB of return loss at the center frequency of 1.84 GHz, as well as 43 dB attenuation at the refraction frequency of 2.78 GHz.

  • In this paper, an UWB (Ultra Wide Band) band-pass filter with open stubs using SIR (Stepped Impedance Resonator) structure is presented. The proposed band pass filter (BPF) has SIR structure instead of open stubs for UWB application with low insertion loss. The bandwidth of the proposed BPF is 103 % at the center frequency of 5.8GHz and the insertion and return losses are 0.17dB and 13.1dB, respectively. Also, the entire size of the proposed band-pass filter is $21.6{\times}17.8mm^2$.

  • Filter cake formation during rotary drilling operation is an unavoidable scenario, hence there is need for constant improvement in the approaches used in monitoring the cake thickness growth in order to prevent drill-string sticking. This study proposes an improved model that predicts the growth of mud cake thickness overtime with the consideration of the addition of nanoparticles in the formulated drilling fluid system. Ferric oxide, titanium dioxide and copper oxide nanoparticles were used in varying amounts (2 g, 4 g and 6 g), and filtration data were obtained from the HPHT filtration test. The filter cakes formed were further analyzed with scanning electron microscope to obtain the morphological characteristics. The data obtained was used to validate the new filtrate loss model. This model specifically presents the concept of time variation in filter cake formation as against the previous works of constant and definite time. Regression coefficient which is a statistical measure was used to validate the new model and the predicted results were compared with the API model. The new model showed R2 values of 99.9%, and the predictions from the proposed filtration model can be said to be more closely related to the experimental data than that predicted from the API model from the SSE and RMSE results.

  • The key component to accomplish the WDM all optical network is an Arrayed Waveguide Grating(AWG) wavelength filter Numerical analysis is necessary for design and analysis of optical components like AWG wavelength filter. Beam Propagation Method(BPM) is the most widely-used method. In this paper, we analyze the difference between the paraxial BPM and the WA-BPM when they are applied to the analysis of InP/InGaAsP/InP AWG wavelength filter. The paraxial BPM is based on paraxial approximation, and the WA-BPM is based on the low order Pade approximant. The side lobe level(SLL) and insertion loss calculated from both methods are compared. The high order Pade approximant will to used to more accurate design and analysis of AWG.
