This study investigated whether people experience a correspondence between color hue-tone and the main characters' emotions in the 2012 British musical drama film, Les $Mis\grave{e}rables$ through three practical experiments. Six screen images, which represent the characters' different emotions (Parrot's six primary types including love, joy, surprise, anger, sadness, and fear) were selected. For each screen image, participants were asked to judge the degree of the character's dominant emotions evoked from 17 varied screen images, which consisted of original chromatic and achromatized images as well as 15 color-filtered images (5 hues X 3 tones of the IRI color system). These tasks revealed that a chromatic color scheme is more effective to deliver the characters' positive emotions (i.e. love and joy) than an achromatic one. In addition, they proved that the hue and tone dimensions partially influence the relationships between the character emotions and colors.

This paper aims to investigate the effect of anticipatory motion in Wall E (2008). For the purpose of the study, first of all, an overall discussion on the definition and role of anticipation presented through the related literature review. Based on this, the present study analyzed the functions of anticipatory movements of the main characters, Wall E and EVE in 29 scenes. As a result, this paper found that anticipation is involved in expressions of humanity, thought process, utterance and intonation, the degree of emotion and energy, reinforcement of the character's intention, and biological response within the film. Overall, these findings show that anticipation takes an important part in giving the illusion of life to the characters throughout the movie, which may imply that anticipation can be beneficial for characters with abstract form or limited modality. The ultimate goal of this study is to propose that the animation principles can be used as a tool to analyze character animation and can be applied academically or industrially to other fields such as artificial intelligence.

In the movies, costume plays an important role in completing the character, and styling, color, and texture of the costume are one of the important means of expression. In a movie, costumes, styling, color, and texture contribute towards development of each character's character. Digital animation character creation was not suddenly enabled by visual technology, rather it was a result of numerous attempts of combining animation and live action film with the help of technology advancement. Two pioneers in this field are James Cameron and Robert Zemeckis. Although continuous interest and research in visual technology existed, the two directors differed in how they viewed the use of technology. The difference is demonstrated in their two recent movies which will be covered in details. How these two directors differed in their approach remains a topic of study for us who continuously are exposed on advance visual technology and our reaction to the changing nature of the industry.
