  • In the manufacture and processing of large plastic materials, product quality is tested and verified through several techniques such as injection processing, residual stress through injection molding and shrinkage. With regards to the injection molding process, common problems such as inconsistent density is seen when different points of the product are discovered to have varying thickness levels. Sink marks in product are then evident. This occurs when there is poor molding conditions caused about by poor runner and packaging systems incorporated into the process. We designed the runner system which is possible balanced filling to cavities using CAE program $Moldflow^{TM}$ and then obtained optimal processing conditions by Taguchi's Robust Design technique.

  • Injection molding process was taken to manufacture DC motor case that surrounds DC motor used as automobile parts. Up to now, DC motor case has been made by the deep drawing process or bending process of metal materials. Simulations of filling, packing and cooling processes were done by CAE tool like Moldflow software. Optimal delivery system was decided from the analysis of flow balance, and packing and cooling analyses were performed by using the design of experiment to minimize the volumetric shrinkage of molded part and the temperature difference between mold and part.

  • In diabetics, daily blood glucose testing is generally required at home, and thus, performing blood collection several times a day using a blood line is essential. Blood collection in the home and in the hospital is a source of pain and is the second most common cause of infection. In blood collecting device generally consists of four major parts: inner-case, outer case, main shaft and triger, and the most import part among those for necessary functionality is the main shaft. Filling time and injection pressure, filling balance, strain-rate analysis of change based on availability of the product. The Moldflow of FEM simulation is used for the analysis of injection molding process. In this study, aims to create a technique for injection molding and manufacturing of a main shaft of a high-performance blood-collecting apparatus capable of automatically extracting a lancet to relieve pain through depth control of the lancet.

  • This paper describes the optimization of injection molding conditions to minimize sink marks. Sink marks, which refer to a small depression on the surface opposite a thick wall thickness, are often encounted in injection molded plastic parts. Part geometry, material properties and processing conditions during injection molding can affect the sink mark depth. We designed the runner system which is possible balanced filling to cavities using CAE program and then obtained optimal processing conditions by Taguchi's Robust Design technique. By actual injection molding using optimized mold and molding conditions, it confirmed that sink mark depth decreased zero compared to 1mm level in the conventional mold and process.

  • Flow imbalance among the cavities was often observed in multi-cavity mold. The flow imbalance affects on the dimensions and physical properties of melded articles. First of all, the origin of flow imbalance is geometrical imbalance of delivery system. However, even the geometry of delivery system is balanced the cavity imbalance is being developed. This comes from the temperature distribution in the cross-section of runner, which is affected by the operational conditions. In this study, experimental study of flow imbalance has been conducted for various injection speeds. This study also suggests new runner design to eliminate flow imbalance in multi-cavity injection mold. Simulation and experimental results showed suggested new designed runner could eliminate or reduce flow imbalance in multi-cavity injection mold.

  • For exisiting $K_0$-oedometer, the lateral wall of the ring is cut thinly to make space and by filling the space with space with water or mercuty to keep the balance to the lateral pressure of a specimen, the pressure of the fluid is checked for the pressure of the specimen. But the devices to keep the balance to the lateral pressure of a specimen are complicated, difficult to manufacture and expensive. As newly developed $K_0$-oedometer is equipped with the load cell which can resist higher pressute than the lateral pressure of the specimen, there is nearly no deformation due to the lateral pressure of the specimen. And the measuting is cheap and easy as there are fewer accessories.

  • The injection molding process is analyzed to get the information on the mold design parameters and the optimum process conditions for automotive plastic front fender. The gate position, runner size and cooling channel are determined by the estimation of the flow balance, packing time, uniform cooling and shrinkage and warpage in the injection molding analyses. The procedure can be used in the mold design in the early stage when developing plastic parts.

  • Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important crop and its yield must be improved to feed the increasing global population. Recently developed high-yielding varieties with extra-large sink capacity often have a problem in unstable grain-filling. Therefore, understanding limiting factors for improving grain-filling and controlling them are essential for further improvement of rice grain yield. However, since grain-filling rate was determined by complex sink-source balance, the ability of grain-filling was very difficult to evaluate. Source ability for 'grain' was not only determined by the ability of carbon assimilation in leaves, but also that of carbon translocation from leaves to panicles. Sink strength was determined by the complex carbon metabolism from sucrose degradation to starch synthesis. Hence, to evaluate the grain-filling ability and determine its regulatory steps, the whole picture of carbon flow from photosynthesis at leaves to starch synthesis at grains must be revealed in a metabolite level. In this study, the yield and grain growth rate of three high-yielding varieties, which show high sink capacity commonly, were compared. Momiroman showed lower grain filling rate and slower grain growth rate than the other varieties, Hokuriku 193 and Tequing. To clarify the limiting point in the carbon flow of Momiroman, $CO_2$ labeled by stable isotope ($^{13}C$) was fed to three varieties during ripening period. The ratio of $^{13}C$ left in the stem was higher in Momiroman 24 hours after feeding, suggesting inefficient carbon translocation of Momiroman. More interestingly, $^{13}C$ translocation from soluble fraction to insoluble one in the grain seemed to be slower in Momiroman. To get the further insight in a metabolite level, we are now trying the $^{13}C$ labeling metabolome analysis in the developing grains.

  • In injection molding process, the runner system of the mold is a flow path for filling the cavity of the molded part during the advance of the screw by the force of the hydraulic cylinder, which involves the filling and packing process of the molten resin. Thus, the sprue, runner and gate greatly affect the appearance of the molded part, the physical properties of the resin, the dimensional accuracy and the molding cycle etc. Feed systems with incorrect runner and gate designs cause various molding defects, So it is important to maintain the optimum runner balance to prevent these defects. In order to improve the knowledge of practical mold technology, which is applied to the manufacturers of injection molds, a training model of the mold technology process is presented based on the technical guidance on the technical difficulties.
