This study evaluates the seismic fragilities in fill slopes in South Korea through parametric finite element analyses that have been barely investigated thus far. We consider three slope geometries for a slope of height 10 m and three slope angles, and two soil types, namely frictional and frictionless, associated with two soil states, loose and dense for frictional soils and soft and stiff for frictionless soils. The input ground motions accounting for four site conditions in South Korea are obtained from one-dimensional site response analyses. By comparing the numerical modeling of slopes using PLAXIS2D against the previous studies, we compiled suites of the maximum permanent slope displacement (Dmax) against two ground motion parameters, namely, peak ground acceleration (PGA) and Arias Intensity (IA). A probabilistic seismic demand model is adopted to compute the probabilities of exceeding three limit states (minor, moderate, and extensive). We propose multiple seismic fragility curves as functions of a single ground motion parameter and numerous seismic fragility surfaces as functions of two ground motion parameters. The results show that soil type, slope angle, and input ground motion influence these probabilities, and are expected to help regional authorities and engineers assess the seismic fragility of fill slopes in the road systems in South Korea.
Shear wave velocity (or shear modulus) is very important in the evaluation of seismic performance of a fill dam under an earthquake. A shear wave velocity profile can be determined by surface wave method such as HWAW and SASW methods but this profile has uncertainty caused by spatial variation of material property in a fill dam. This uncertainty in shear wave velocity profile could be considered using a coefficient of variation of material property in the reliability based analysis. In this paper, the possible 600 shear wave velocity profiles in the core and rockfill zone of fill dam were generated by the random shear wave velocity profile generation method, proposed by Hwang and Park, based on the field shear wave velocity profiles determined by the HWAW and SASW methods. And, through the statistical analysis of generated shear wave velocity profiles in the fill dam, the coefficient of variation (COV) of shear wave velocity with depth were evaluated for the core and rock filled zone of fill dam in Korea.

Purpose: To analyze the dimensions of the embrasure space between the maxillary central incisors as potential factors influencing interdental papilla fill and height. Methods: The embrasure dimensions between the maxillary central incisors of 100 subjects (40 females/60 males) were assessed with clinical, study model, and radiographic examinations. Variables of the complete and deficient papilla fill groups were compared. Multiple regression analyses were performed to investigate potential influence of the distance between the contact point and bone crest (CP_BC), horizontal interdental distance (HID), and facio-lingual thickness (FLT) at the papilla base on complete/deficient papilla fill and papilla height (PH). Results: CP_BC was the only variable that showed a significant difference between the complete and deficient papilla groups (P<0.05). When the CP_BC was less than 5 mm, the embrasure spaces between the maxillary central incisors were completely filled with interdental papilla. Multiple regression analyses revealed that a significant predictor for complete/deficient papilla fill was CP_BC, and significant predictors for PH were CP_BC and HID (P<0.05). Conclusions: The chances of complete papilla fill increased as CP_BC decreased, while PH increased as CP_BC and HID increased. However, the FLT of the papilla base did not appear to affect papilla fill or PH. From an esthetic perspective, CP_BC as well as HID should be considered as factors influencing the topography of interdental papilla.
This paper presents a study on the low velocity impact response of the woven fabric laminates for the hybrid composite bodyshell of a tilting railway vehicle. In this study, the low velocity impact tests for the three laminates with size of $100mm\times100mm$ were conducted at three impact energy levels of 2.4J, 2.7J and 4.2J. Based on the tests, the impact force, the absorbed energy and the damaged area were investigated according to the different energy levels and the stacking sequences. The damage area was evaluated by the visual inspection and the C-scan device. The test results show that the absorbed energy of [fill]8 laminate is highest whereas (fill2/warp2)s is lowest. The [fill]8 laminate has the largest damage area because of the highest impact energy absorption.

Objectives: This study evaluated the relationship between the battery charge level and irradiance of light-emitting diode (LED) light-curing units (LCUs) and how these variables influence the Vickers hardness number (VHN) of a bulk-fill resin. Materials and Methods: Four LCUs were evaluated: Radii Plus (SDI), Radii-cal (SDI), Elipar Deep Cure (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M Oral Care), and Poly Wireless (Kavo Kerr). Irradiance was measured using a radiometer every ten 20-second activations until the battery was discharged. Disks (4 mm thick) of a bulk-fill resin (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M Oral Care) were prepared, and the VHN was determined on the top and bottom surfaces when light-cured with the LCUs with battery levels at 100%, 50% and 10%. Data were analyzed by 2-way analysis of variance, the Tukey's test, and Pearson correlations (α = 5%). Results: Elipar Deep Cure and Poly Wireless showed significant differences between the irradiance when the battery was fully charged versus discharged (10% battery level). Significant differences in irradiance were detected among all LCUs, within each battery condition tested. Hardness ratios below 80% were obtained for Radii-cal (10% battery level) and for Poly Wireless (50% and 10% battery levels). The battery level showed moderate and strong, but non-significant, positive correlations with the VHN and irradiance. Conclusions: Although the irradiance was different among LCUs, it decreased in half of the devices along with a reduction in battery level. In addition, the composite resin effectiveness of curing, measured by the hardness ratio, was reduced when the LCUs' battery was discharged.

The compaction of core zone of the fill dam is very important foe increasing of the Strength of soil mass and reduction of permeability of the core. The principal objects of this study are to give the construction criteria of tamping rollers and to find out the relationships between density and permeability of soil after compaction. The results in this study are summarized as follows. 1. The core zone of fill dam should be compacted more than 8 passed because the compaction effects of clayey soil increase sharply in about 8 passes of roller. 2. The coefficient of permeability (K) increases with the thickness of compaction of soil even though the density is same. 3. The effect of compaction increases with the quantity of coarse materials such as coarse sand and gravel. 4. If D values change from 100 percent to 98 percent and from 100 percent to 95 percent, K values become 2 times and 5 times of initial K value respectively. 5. The coefficient of permeability in the field soil is very high comparing with the result of laboratory test at the same 100 percent compaction ratio, but differences between both results decrease with the decrease of compaction ratio. 6. Thickness of soil layer for the compaction should be increased for heavier compaction machine. 7. In order to get the compaction ratio of 98 percent or more, 10 to 12 passes of roller is generally required with the thickness of soil from 20cm to 30cm.

It is very important to measure reliable dynamic properties of each zone in dam for seismic design. However, the Vs values of core and rock-fill zone are seldom determined by field test. Consequently, seismic design in dam is performed using Vs values assumed or empirically determined. So, it is required that reliable Vs has to be evaluated by in-situ test. In this study, surface wave method, which is nondestructive, was applied to dam to evaluate Vs profiles of core and rock-fill zone in dam. In 6 dams, using SASW and HWAW methods, Vs profiles were evaluated reliably. D/B of Vs profiles of each zone with depth and relationship between confining pressure and Vs profiles of rock-fill zone were constructed including existing results of other dams. The evaluated D/B and proposed relationship were compared with the frequently used empirical method by Sawada and Takahashi.

Active use of images in the same place as the religion according to the height of the screen is determined by the height of the main speakers. This causes the 'sound image mismatch' and 'bass boost' sound like a failure occurs. Front seats are good seats in visual acoustics is a bad place. To minimize these obstacles acoustical speakers to actively apply the front fill needed. Higher sound pressure difference between the main speaker and the distance must be determined in accordance with the appropriate capacity. Actively using the front speakers to the sound image field by implementing the agreement to increase the concentration of sound. The relatively high inflow enhance alto lacking the front seat can be implemented evenly in the frequency response. Column in front of the main seat of the main speakers to supplement the deficiencies can be implemented more comfortable acoustic environment. Front fill speaker needs to be actively introduced, thereby presenting a detailed estimate, is needed.

Newmark-type deformation analysis has rarely been done in Korea due to the popularity of simple pseudo-static limit equilibrium analysis and detailed time-history FE/FD dynamic analysis. However, the Korean seismic dam design code updated in 2011 prescribes Newmark-type deformation analysis as a major dynamic analysis method for the seismic evaluation of fill dams. In addition, a design PGA for dynamic analysis is significantly increased in the code. This paper aims to study the seismic evaluation of four existing large fill dams through advanced FEM/Newmark-type deformation analyses for the artificial earthquake time histories with the design PGA of 0.22g. Dynamic soil properties obtained from in-situ geo-physical surveys are applied as input parameters. For the FEM/Newmark analyses, sensitivity analyses are performed to study the effects of input PGA and $G_{max}$ of shell zone on the Newmark deformation. As a result, in terms of deformation, four fill dams are proved to be reasonably safe under the PGA of 0.22g with yield coefficients of 0.136 to 0.187, which are highly resistant for extreme events. Sensitivity analysis as a function of PGA shows that $PGA_{30cm}$ (a limiting PGA to cause the 30 cm of Newmark permanent displacement on the critical slip surface) is a good indicator for seismic safety check. CFRD shows a higher seismic resistance than ECRD. Another sensitivity analysis shows that $G_{max}$ per depth does not significantly affect the site response characteristics, however lower $G_{max}$ profile causes larger Newmark deformation. Through this study, it is proved that the amplification of ground motion within the sliding mass and the location of critical slip surface are the dominant factors governing permanent displacements.

Anaerobic fill time and feeding pattern in SBR operation were investigated to find way of minimizing poor nitrogen removal efficiency in BNR process without external carbon addition. The three types of the modified SBR operations that were CO-SBR, IA-SBR, and SF-SBR were tested by lab-scale and pilot-scale SBR processes($2\;m^3/day$). In addition, practical equation for biological nitrogen removal was suggested and the equation considered the effect of ratio of fill volume over whole SBR volume and the ratio of step-feed in SBR. The denitrification efficiency of the SF-SBR was best among the three SBRs and followed by IA-SBR, and CO-SBR. The efficiency was 95%, 61%, and 19%, respectively. Looking at the change of sludge floc density by the length of anaerobic fill time, the density of sludge floc at 1 hour and 2 hours of anaerobic fill time were greater than 3 hours of one. The floc size distributions were $100{\sim}300\;{\mu}m$ and $200{\sim}400\;{\mu}m$ with respect to anaerobic fill time 2 hours and 3 hours, respectively.
