The Concept of 'Culture' and 'Environment' in Urban Cultural Geography (도시문화지리학에 있어서 '문화'와 '환경'의 개념)

  • There are certain polemics regarding what kind of approach is most appropriate in the study of urban cluture. The tension seems to come from the misunderstanding of each other. A major source of the misunderstanding is different usage of the term 'culture' The lerm 'culture' may be interpreted either as way of life (fig. 1), system of meaning (fig. 2), the fourth structural condition (fig. 3), sophisticated taste (fig. 4), a superstructure of intellect and arts (fig. 5), biological supporting system (fig. 6), or all encompassing conditions (fig. 7). Whatever definition is taken for the term 'culture', there is a parallel definition of 'environment' for each stance (figures 1 - 7) What kind of definition is adopted matters because each of them is deeply rooted in different perspectives and focuses. It however, seems impossible to completely deny or disprove the utility of any of the slances. This, we may have to accept the diversity of definitions and consider urban cultural geography as a basket in which diverse concepts and perspectives are collected and nurtured.

  • Bond strength between alloy and ceramic plays an important role in deciding the quaring the processing of metalceramic restorations. Now the author had an experiment on the measurement of bond strength differences accoding to the contents of recast alloy used during the processing of metal-ceramic restorations. In the experiment, Anusavice's Planar Interface Shear Bond Test was employed to determine the bond strength. Total 25 specimens were divided as 5 groups, that is, 5 specimens in a group respections : Group I (new alloy 100%) Group II (new 75%$\cdot$recast 25%), Group III (new 50%$\cdot$recast 50%), Group IV (new 25%$\cdot$recast 75%), Group V(recast 100%). All specimens examined micropically and respective strength values of the group specimens were checked simultaneously. The results were as follows, 1. In the analtsis of variance the result showed the significant differences of 1%(P<0.01) among the each group classifid according to the recast contents. 2. When the interfaces of specimens were examined with an electron microscope, the air bubble were evenly occurred in all the specimens, and the occurrence frequencies and the sizes of air bubble were different between Group I and Group III, especially marked different Group I and Croup V. 3. In respective verification of each group through T-test, between Group I and Group II, between Group I and Group III did not show significant differences. 4. There was significant difference between Group I and Group IV, between Group I and Group V as 1%(P<0.01). 5. In the Shear Bond Test of all the groups, Croup V showed the lowest value.   • In this study, we evaluated the alcohol degradation ability of fig enzyme in the production of cheese using Lactobacillus kitasatonis, Lactobacillus amylophillus, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides sub. The strains were highly resistant to ethanol, acid, and bile acid. When 10% of fig enzyme was added, the alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase activities in each strain were approximately 170, 270, and 190% higher, respectively, than in samples without fig enzyme. The addition of 10% of fig enzyme to produce cheese with the L. amylophillus strain showed an approximately 250% increase in alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase degradation. In conclusion, when fig enzyme was added to produce cheese using L. amylophillus, high alcohol degradation ability was observed. The applicability of fig enzyme addition was confirmed for the production of functional food.

THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT SHADING OF MULCHING ON YIELD OF ROOT AND QUALITY IN PANAX GINSENG

  • This experiment was on the purpose to study the effects of different shading of Mulching treatments on the quality and yield of ginseng root. This experiment were conducted at Mei-Feng for one year, from July, 1972 to July, 1973. The variety been used was introduced Korea Panax ginsvng. Three different Shading of Mulching treatments have been studied. The results were summerized as follows: 1. The growth of ginseng plant is good under around 4,300 Lux of light intensity. Fig . showed the shadow treatment of straw had a better effect than that of black or grey plastic film. The differences between treatments were significant. 2. The adequate soil temperature for ginseng culture was in the range of $16-18^{\circ}C$. Fig 2. showed that there were significant differences among treatments, of which the straw shadow treatment had the best effect. 3. The growth of ginseng plant was greatly affected wth various shadow treatments. Fig 1. showed both straw and black plastic film treatments had a better effects on growth of stem, leaf area and leaf numbers. 4. Fig. 2. 3. 4. 5 indicated there were distingished differences among all treatments. The straw and black plastics film mulching treatments had a better effects on root length, root diameter, root weight and leaf weight than the grey plastic film. 5. The amount of plant alkaloids and panacene content had related to the shadow treatment, as showed in Fig. 6 and 7 that straw shadow treatment had greatly increased the procuction of plant alkaloids and panacene content. 6. The quality and yield of roots of ginseng greatly affected by different shading of mulching treatments.

We define the iterations of M9z) as (Fig.) Since the composition M$_{2}$(z)=M.M(z) is known (see [5] for example) to be singular inner function it has the "cannonical" representation (Fig.) where .mu. is a finite, positive singular Borel measure on the unit circle T. In section 2, we have explicit cannonical representation of M$_{2}$(z) by determining the singular measure .mu.   • For preliminary estimation of ships' machinery weights, many papers giving well-judged data and discussions for rational method of estimation, such as [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], are available, however, they are mostly concerned with large ships propelled by power more than about 2, 000 horsepower. Regarding the medium and small-sized ships, as far as the author is aware, fragmental data and vague discussions found in various technical literature are the all available. In this paper, available data concerned with machinery weights of commercial ships propelled by direct-drive diesel plants of power below 3, 000 horsepower with single screw propeller are collected and analysed to obtain systematic data Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 as weight to power ratio versus power per shaft diagrams together with suplementary data Fig. 1 and Fig. 3. Influences of various factor such as revolutions per minute, mean effective pressure, type and construction of the main units on machinery weights are also investigated in detail to give a better guidance for logical and rational utlization of the proposed diagrams in preliminary estimation of machinery weights.

  • In a continuous study for the developing of the anticariogenic agents, 3,3'-diacyl-4,4'-biphenol derivatives (Fig. 2, 2 and 3) and 3,3'-bis-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-4,4'-biphenol (Fig. 3, 4 and 5) derivatives are synthesized successively from 4,4'-diphenol (Fig. 2, 1). The synthesized compounds are tested for their antibacterial activity against a cariogenic bacterium, Streptococcus mutans OMZ 176. The acyl derivatives, 2 and 3, do not show antibacterial activity, but the hydroxyalkyl derivatives, 4 and 5, reduced from the acyl group of 2 and 3, show the activity. The antibacterial activity of 2 and 3 may be inhibited due to intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the acyl group and the hydroxyl one (Fig. 4).

Effects of Temperature Stress on VFB Shifts of HfO2-SiO2 Double Gate Dielectrics Devices

  • In this work, we investigated the effects of temperature stress on flatband voltage (VFB) shifts of HfO2-SiO2 double gate dielectrics devices. Fig. 1 shows a high frequency C-V of the device when a positive bias for 10 min and a subsequent negative bias for 10 min were applied at room temperature (300 K). Fig. 2 shows the corresponding plot when the same positive and negative biases were applied at a higher temperature (473.15 K). These measurements are based on the BTS (bias temperature stress) about mobile charge in the gate oxides. These results indicate that the positive bias stress makes no difference, whereas the negative bias stress produces a significant difference; that is, the VFB value increased from ${\Delta}0.51$ V (300 K, Fig. 1) to ${\Delta}14.45$ V (473.15 K, Fig. 2). To explain these differences, we propose a mechanism on the basis of oxygen vacancy in HfO2. It is well-known that the oxygen vacancy in the p-type MOS-Cap is located within 1 eV below the bottom of the HfO2 conduction band (Fig. 3). In addition, this oxygen vacancy can easily trap the electron. When heated at 473.15 K, the electron is excited to a higher energy level from the original level (Fig. 4). As a result, the electron has sufficient energy to readily cross over the oxide barrier. The probability of trap about oxygen vacancy becomes very higher at 473.15 K, and therefore the VFB shift value becomes considerably larger.

Analysis of the Statistical and Time-Series Characteristics for Pan Evaporation (증발계 증발량의 시계예 및 통계적 특성 분석)

  • In order to estimate furture consumtive use, some statistical characteristics of 22-year pan evaporation data at four selected stations were calculated in this study. Districal distribution, trend analysis and time-series, statistical and periodic analysis for annual, monethly and ten-day values were performed in the statistical analysis. The stations are Seoul, Taeku, Jeonju and Mokpo for monthly data, and Suweon data are compared to the reported Penman values. The results are as followed: 1. Annual evaporation ranged to 990-1,375mm varying with the locations of the stations. The Districal distribution of evaporation in the Republic is shown in Fig. 1. 2. The trend analysis for annual evaporation resulted in detail in Table 2 and Fig. 2, through simple moving average methods. The results show relatively short-period data of about 10 years would be acceptable for field use. 3. The means and dispersions of monthly evaporation at four stations are detailed in Table 3. 4. The monthly evaporation approached to the trend of normal distribution Fig. 3 showed the examples of normal distribution for each typical monthly data. 5. The correlograms detailed in Fig. 4, shows the time-series characteristics of monthly evaporation, whose periodic term should be twelve months. 6. The periodic analysis for monthly evapolation results in Table 4. Fig. 5 shows the comparison of estimated values to actual and the trend approaches Shuster's periodic trend. 7. A periodic description of days after March 1 for irrigation periods was developed to predict ten-day evaporation in Fig. 6. The ten-day etraporation is different in the distribution form and occurence period of maximum values from the reported Penman's man's evapotranspiration.
