  • In this paper, we propose a sub-10 nm Ge/GaAs heterojunction-based tunneling field-effect transistor (TFET) with vertical band-to-band tunneling (BBT) operation for ultra-low-power (LP) applications. We design a stack structure that is based on the Ge/GaAs heterojunction to realize the vertical BBT operation. The use of vertical BBT operations in devices results in excellent subthreshold characteristics with a reduction in the drain-induced barrier thinning (DIBT) phenomenon. The proposed device with a channel length ($L_{ch}$) of 5 nm exhibits outstanding LP performance with a subthreshold swing (S) of 29.1 mV/dec and an off-state current ($I_{off}$) of $1.12{\times}10^{-11}A/{\mu}m$. In addition, the use of the highk spacer dielectric $HfO_2$ improves the on-state current ($I_{on}$) with an intrinsic delay time (${\tau}$) because of a higher fringing field. We demonstrate a sub-10 nm LP switching device that realizes a good S and lower $I_{off}$ at a lower supply voltage ($V_{DD}$) of 0.2 V.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of axle weight distribution and inflation pressure of tire on the fuel economy of tractors as well as operational range of tractor engine in terms of engine speed and power when a 4WD tractor of 38.2 kW rated power at 2500 rpm is used for plowing and flooded-field rotavating in paddy fields. (1) Plowing operation required an average engine power of 9.6~13.5 kW which equals 25~35% of rated PTO power. Engine speed ranged from 1,320.4 to 1,737.4 rpm, work velocity from 3.4 to 4.8 km/h, and fuel consumption from 3.2 to 4.2 L/h, respectively. (2) Flooded-field rotavating required an average engine power of 11.5~18.5 kW which equals 30~48.4% of rated PTO power. Out of this 6.2~12.2 kW was used for PTO power. Engine speed ranged from 1,557 to 2,067 rpm, work velocity from 2.5~5.4 km/h and fuel consumption from 3.2~5.5 L/h, respectively. (3) Axle weight distribution, inflation pressure of tire and moisture content of soil did not affect significantly the specific volumetric fuel consumption but affected significantly the fuel consumption per unit area of operation. Fuel savings amounted to 65% in plowing operation and 20% in flooded-field rotavating when the axle weight distribution and inflation pressure of tire were optimally adjusted. (4) Optimal adjustment of axle weight distribution and inflation pressure of tire are expected to save fuel consumption by 10~65% per unit area of operation in plowing and 10~20% in flooded-field rotavating.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure load data for a 55 kW class agricultural tractor during a harvesting operation and to analyze the required power according to the working conditions. A field test was conducted at three different tractor speeds (1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 km·h-1). A load measurement system was developed for the front axles, rear axles, and for power take-off (PTO). The torque and rotational speeds of the axles and PTO were measured during the field test and were calculated as the required power. The results showed that the total required power was in the range of 4.86 - 5.48 kW during the harvesting operation according to the tractor speed, and it was confirmed that this represents a ratio of 8.8 - 10.0% of the engine rated power. Also, it was confirmed that the required power of the axle and PTO increased as the tractor speed increased. In future studies, we plan to supplement the measurement system for a tractor to include a hydraulic system and perform a field test for harvesting various underground crops.

  • In order to investigate on the field performance of 3.5PS power tiller and to obtain the optimum using conditions of it, this experiment has been carried on the plowing operation, the rotary harrowing operation and the ridging operation that compared 3.5PS power tiller(KC-450) with the existing 5PS(DT-40) and 8PS(DT-85) power tiller. It has been performed at Suck Jung-Dong, Ansung Country, from March to October in 1980. The results of this field test were obtained as follows; 1. The plowing performance of KC-450 tiller was found to be 125min/10a that was lower than that of DT-85 tiller by 26min/10a in the effective plowing speed 0.9m/sec. 2. The field efficiency of KC-450 tiller was the highest among the power tillers as to be 82 persent that was higher than that of DT-85 tiller by 5 persent in the effective plowing speed 1m/sec. 3. The rotary harrowing performances of DT-40 tiller and DT-85 tiller were higher than that of KC-450 tiller in the rotary harrowing operation of the same speed, and the field efficiency of KC-450 tiller and DT-40 tiller were higher than that of DT-85 tiller in the rotary harrowing operation. 4. The ridging Performance of testing power tillers were nearly equality in the ridging operation of the same speed, and the field efficiency of testing tillers were higher KC-450 tiller than DT-40 tiller, DT-40 tiller than DT-85 tiller. 5. The work performance of power tiller increased with increase in the size of field area. Work performance and field efficiency of KC-450 tiller were higher than other tillers below 8a in field size 6. DT -85 tiller was more useful in deep plowing depth. But below 8a in field size KC-450 tiller was more easily operated and its field efficiency was higher 7. KC-450 tiller should be more useful to operate in the small size field or in the small scale farming and for the cultivation of vegetables, gardening plants, medicinal herb and tobacco plants, or for the cultivation in vinyl house.

  • Generally, Sewage Treatment Plants(STPs) are complexes systems in which a range of physical, chemical and biological processes occur. However, their performance strongly depends on the know-how acquired by the field-engineer. Recently, in order to solve this situations, various operation and management technologies based on the Instrumentation, Control and Automation(ICA) have been developed. As a economies-environmental affect point of view, this study was for the performance evaluation and assessment of results from the Smart Operation System(SOS) in full-scale STP. The SOS in STP consisted of the process monitoring module, including real-time influent prediction and effluent simulation, and the Smart Air Control(SAC) module. According to the results from field test for 2 years, the results of economical evaluation, amount of benefits and cost saving by the SOS have shown to be much higher than that of traditional operation. Nevertheless, the removal load(kg/yr) of BOD 13.3 %, COD 28.2 %, TN 44.4 % and TP 20.8 % were increased, respectively. Remarkable improvement of removal load could be achieved after the SOS was adapted. It was concerned that the SOS offer a user friendly functionalities and cost saving needed by the field-engineers. In addition, it was expected that the results of this study would supply helpful information for design and cost saving for the SOS in full-scale STP.

  • This study analyzed the load and the consumed power characteristics of a potato harvesting operation in a dry field. The potato harvesting operation was performed using an underground crop harvester mounted on an agricultural tractor with a rated engine power of 23.7 kW. The rotational speeds and the torque of the engine output shaft, rear axle, and power take-off (PTO) shaft were measured under various working conditions. The load spectrum and the consumed power were analyzed using the measured data. The results show that the consumed power of the rear axle increased as the working speed increased, while that of the PTO shaft decreased. The consumed power of the engine output shaft showed a similar trend with that of the PTO shaft, but the torque deviation was larger in the load spectrum. The results of previous studies were used to compare herein the consumed power and the load characteristics of the harvesting, rotary, and plow operations in a dry field. PTO and tractive power were highly consumed in the plow and rotary operations, respectively. The consumed power of the PTO shaft and the rear axle in the harvesting operation were 29-41% and 18-23% of the engine power, respectively. Compared to those in the rotary and plow operations, the engine power was relatively evenly distributed to the PTO shaft and rear axle in the harvesting operation.

  • This study is the part of the investigation of the state of the art in ultra high flowing concrete (UHFC), applied in practical field construction, in order to develop the technology for improving workability. This paper includes a brief introduction of water content variance properties in UHFC before and after the pumping operation. Test showed that water content in all parameters decreased after the pumping. This is due to the increase of an absorption ratio of coarse aggregate by the pressure of the pumping operation. thus decreasing the water content. Therefore it should be considered to find out the possibility, which can improve the workability, suffering from over viscosity by the lower water content, in field construction.

  • The induction motor is used for driving the special equipments such as warship and submarine pump due to robust structure and simple maintenance. Domestic and foreign warships use a wide range of voltages and the DC voltage sources mainly from battery. In the low voltage level, the ${\Delta}$-connection operation of induction motor can be used for the maximum power. However, the temperature of the inverter increases because of the high input current. On the other hand, Y-connection operation of the induction motor does not cause a problem of temperature because of the low input current compared to the ${\Delta}$-connection. But the lack of the supply voltage can not be avoided. Therefore, this paper suggests the algorithm of the optimum field weakening control to extend the operating range of the induction motor with maximum power in a limited thermal and DC voltage condition.
