  • The substituent dependence of geometric distortion through the two independent electronic substituent effects is analyzed for mono-substituted benzene derivatives of $C_{2v}$. Based on resonance structures, quantitative relationships expressing the resonance and field/inductive contribution terms in bond distortions are derived. The calculated field-effect parts of $C_{ipso}$_$C_{ortho}$ ring bonds increase and decrease compared to benzene for electropositive and electronegative substituents respectively. The nonbonded axial distance, $C_{ipso}$....$C_{para'}$ decreases for electronegative substituents and increases for electropositive substituents. As the electronegativity increases, the distance $C_{ortho}$....$C_{ortho'}$ increases. With the $\pi$-donors, $C_{meta}$....$C_{meta'}$ nonbonded distances are shorter compared to the ones of benzene, and for $\pi$-acceptors, the are longer. Our model based on valence bond approach predicts that the average bond length determined the area of ring, and the sum of the angles <$C_{ortho}$_$C_{ispo}$_$C_{ortho}$ and <$C_{meta}$_$C_{para}$_$C_{meta}$ determines the axial distance.

  • Temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric and electrical properties was investigated in cerium and manganese doped Sr$\_$0.6/Ba$\_$0.4/Nb$_2$O$\_$6/(60SBN) ceramic system. Structural deformation of 60SBN by dopants did not appeared. 1350$^{\circ}C$-10 h sintered specimen had higher densification than 1250$^{\circ}C$-10 h sintered one, to which dielectric properties are related. That the feature of dielectric maxima peaks was typical Diffusive Phase Transition (DPT), it was explained by "random-field Ising model". Even though 60SBN has large dielectric loss at high frequency above 100 ㎑, it is desirable for optical applications because of low dielectric loss at low frequency. From Arrhenius plot of temperature, the activation energy was calculated to 0.45-0.49 eV.

  • Mobility reduction parameters are extracted using a method based on the exploitatiion of Id-Vg and Gm-Vg characteristics of short channel n-MOSFETs in strong inversion region at room temperature. It is found that the reduction of the maximum field effect mobility, \ulcornerFE,max, with the channel length is due to i) the difference between the threshold voltage and the gate voltage which corresponds to the maximum transconductance, and ii) the channel length dependence of the mobility attenuation coefficient, \ulcorner The low field mobility, \ulcorner, is found to be independent of the channel length down to 0.25 \ulcorner ofeffective channel length. Also, the channel length reduction, -I, the mobility attenuation coefficient, \ulcorner the threshold voltage, Vt, and the source-drain resistance, Rsd, are determined from the Id-Vg and -gm-Vg characteristics n-MOSFETs.

  • The conduction mechanisms of the off-current in low temperature ($\leq$600$^{\circ}C$) processed polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors (LTP poly-Si TFT's) has been systematically studied. Especially, the temperature and bias dependence of the off-current between unpassivated and passivated poly-Si TFT's was investigated and compared. The off-current of unpassivated poly-Si TFT's is due to a resistive current at low gate and drain voltage, thermal emission current at high gate, low drain voltage, and field enhanced thermal emission current in the depletion region near the drain at high gate and drain voltage. After hydrogenation, it was observed that the off-currents were remarkably reduced by plasma-hydrogenation. It was also observed that the off-currents of the passivated poly-Si TFT's are more critically dependent on temperature rather than electric field.

  • We reported on the eletrorheological (ER) properties of several semiconducting polymers including poly (p-phenylene) (PPP), poly (acene quinone) radicals (PAQRs), microencapsulated polyaniline (MPANI) and polyaniline (PANI) those we synthesized. The yield stress dependence on electric field strength for the ER fluids using these semiconducting polymers was mainly examined. The yield stress, which is an important design parameter for ER fluids, was observed to satisfy a universal scaling function, allowing that yield stress data for all the ER fluids examined in this study collapse onto a single curve for a broad range of electric field strengths. The proposed scaling function incorporates both the polarization and conductivity models.

  • Benzodiazepines are widely used for a variety of conditions in psychiatric field. In this article, the author reviewed the indications, the effects on anxiety and sleep disorders, the side effects, the drug-drug interactions, and the tapering strategies. Benzodiazepines were relatively safe and useful for the treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders. However, used clinically, benzodiazepines can induce many adverse effects (e. g. over-sedation, cognitive impairments, paradoxical effects, dependence and withdrawal symptoms, and so on). Currently available informations about their effects on the developing fetus is controversial. For this reason, pregnant women and nursing mother should be cautioned against the use of benzodiazepines. Drug-drug interactions have to be considered in combination treatments. For the tapering issues, gradual tapering was important to prevent the withdrawal symptoms. Especially, the tapering schedules have to be individualized for the each long-term benzodiapzepine users.

  • The preflashover light emission of the $SiO_2$-dielectric system behavior under high electric field is discussed. Time dependence of the voltage drop, electrical current, and light emission, are analyzed for high-purity $SiO_2$-vacuum systems under impulse voltage stress. We will summarize the experimental results showing the main feature of the time-dependent system response up to breakdown.

  • This paper reports the principle, design, configuration, and test results of the fiber optic security system using multimode fiber. In this system, optical fiber works as a sensing element. The length of sensing element may be from several meters to several killometers. Physical principle of this system is the dependence of interferometric pattern on the end of the fiber on mechanical perturbation in the area, where this fiber is situated. Near and far field patterns of the output light for multimode fiber are speckle pattern. A number of speckles on the fiber depends on mode numbers. Light intensity in each point of the fiber end depends on phase difference of modes. Finally we introduced a "Fiber Optic Security System based on Multimode" Fiber which we developed, it may be available in the field of the important area and building.

  • This study aims to build basic data for a optimization of a ventilation system for indoor environment improvement in school building. To this end, we conducted field tests and computation fluid dynamics simulations about a indoor environment in dependence on operation of a ceiling type inverter air conditioner and ventilation system. The results could be summarized as follows. (1) For the ventilation system of 350CMH, 500CMH and 850CMH, reduction of each $CO_2$ concentration was measured 662ppm, 748ppm and 526ppm. (2) A optimal discharge angle of the ceiling type inverter air conditioner system was evaluated 45 degree in heating and cooling.

  • In most previous investigations of plasmonic and metamaterial applications, the metallic film has been regarded as a perfect electrical conductor. Here we demonstrate the resonance characteristics of THz metamaterials fabricated from metal film that has a finite dielectric constant, using finite-difference time-domain simulations. We found strong redshift and spectral broadening of the resonance as we decrease the metal's plasma frequency in the Drude free-electron model. The frequency shift can be attributed to the effective thinning of the metal film, originating from the increase in penetration depth as the plasma frequency decreases. On the contrary, only peak broadening occurs with an increase in the scattering rate. The metal-thickness dependence confirms that the redshift and spectral broadening occur when the effective metal thickness drops below the skin-depth limit. The electromagnetic field distribution illustrates the reduced field enhancement and reduced funneling effects near the gap area in the case of low plasma frequency, which is associated with reduced charge density in the metal film.
