  • This paper presents the three section sliding mode control algorithm based on variable structure current controller design in a synchronous frame and indirect field oriented control method, and applies it to the position control of induction motor. This control scheme solves the problem of robustness loss during the reaching phase that occurs in a conventional VSC strategy, and ensures the stable sliding mode and robustness enhancement throughout an entire response. As the performance of a VSI fed induction motor drives depends on the characteristics of inner loop current controller, it is desired that the current controller have the fast tracking and robust nature. Therefore, we introduced the voltage mapping table based on the concept of voltage space vector for variable structure current control, and implemented fully digital control system using 16-bit microcontroller with on-chip peripherals without additional processing circuits. Simulation and experimental results confirm the validity of this control scheme for robust AC servo drive system of VSI fed induction motor.

  • Power MOSFETs(Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) operate as energy control semiconductor switches. In order to reduce energy loss of the device during switch-on state, it is essential to increase its conductance. We have experimental results and explanations on the doping profile dependence of the electrical behavior of the vertical MOSFET. The device is fabricated as $8.25{\mu}m$ cell pitch and $4.25{\mu}m$ gate width. The performances of device with various p base doping concentration are compared at Vth from 1.77 V to 4.13 V. Also the effect of the cell structure on the on-resistance and breakdown voltage of the device are analyzed. The simulation results suggest that the device optimized for various applications can be further optimized at power device.

  • In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical bilet placed in a die insetr. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduce to re4present tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears. Some firgiing experiments were catrried out with aluminium alloy to show the validity of the analysis. Good agreement was found between the predicted values of the forging load and obtained from the experimental results.

  • The present study addresses an experimental investigation of the near field flow structures of supersonic, dual, coaxial, free, jet, which is discharged from the coaxial annular nozzle. The secondary stream is made from the annular nozzle of a design Mach number of 1.0 and the primary inner stream from a convergent-divergent nozzle. The objective of the present study is to investigate the interactions between the secondary stream and inner supersonic jets. The resulting flow fields are quantified by pitot impact and static pressure measurements and are visualized by using a shadowgraph optical method. The pressure ratios of the primary jet are varied to obtain over-expanded flows and moderately under-expanded flows at the exit of the coaxial nozzle. The pressure ratio of the secondary annular stream is varied between 1.0 and 4.0. The results show that the secondary annular stream significantly changes the Mach disc diameter and location, and the impact pressure distributions. The effects of the secondary annular stream on the primary supersonic jet flow are strongly dependent on whether the primary jet is under-expanded or over-expanded at the exit of the coaxial nozzle.

  • Stereoscopic particle image velocimetry is a measurement technique to acquire three dimensional velocity field by two cameras. With a laser sheet illumination, the third velocity component can be deduced from out-of$.$plane velocity components using a stereoscopic matching method. Most industrial fluid flows are three dimensional turbulent flows, so it is necessary to use the stereoscopic PIV measurement method. However the existing stereoscopic PIV system seems hard to use since it is very expensive and complex. In this study we have developed a Miniature Stereo-PIV(MSPIV) system based on the concept of the Miniature PIV system which we have already developed. In this paper, we address the design and some primitive experimental results of the Miniature Stereo-PIV system. The Miniature Stereo-PIV system features relatively modest performances, but is considerably smaller, cheaper and easy to handle. The proposed Miniature Stereo-PIV system uses two one-chip-only CMOS cameras with digital output. Only two other chips are needed, one for a buffer memory and one for an interfacing logic that controls the system. Images are transferred to a personal computer (PC) via its standard parallel port. No extra hardware is required (in particular, no frame grabber board is needed).

  • This paper is presented for the performance of the Fluid Dynamic Bearing(FDB) by the groove design and the tooling condition. Recently, spindle motors which require smaller size, lower sound noise, lower vibration, and higher speed of the rotation have been placed in high value-added products including Digital Lightening Processors(DLP), Hard Disk Drives(HDD), and ODDs. The spindle motors using the sintered porous metal bearing have higher vibration and acoustic noise by dry contact and large tolerance of the bearing parts. The Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) with grooves is appropriate for spindle motors adequate in regards to mechanical vibration and acoustic noise. The paper shows the performance comparisons of between sintered porous metal bearing and FDB, and each FDBs according to the tooling deviations of grooves by the Finite Element Analysis(FEA) of the mechanical field. This paper shows the methods to make the grooves, the groove's depth, and the prototype of the motor with the fluid dynamic bearing. The performance characteristics of the grooves with the FDB are verified by the experimental results.

  • Construction equipment such as tower crane should be installed in a field without appropriate anchorage to cause a collapse of crane. The anchorage capacity can be varied with Anchor length, concrete strength, anchor diameter, hooked or non hooked these variables will be made and tested in the study. It is shown what anchorage capacity will be more effective case by case. Hooked and non-hooked rebar anchor concrete weight with dia 22mm rebar are shown with initial displacement at 170~220KN of hooked case and 200~210KN of non-hooked one which are linearly increased, without any ductility behavior with almost brittleness. Three(3) same test pieces are almost similarly behaviored without relation to hooked or non-hooked cases. It is found out that the bigger diameter of rebar becomes, the more resistant capacity could be made, but conversely ductility against sudden collapse similar to brittleness becomes the more insufficient. It is also found out that dia 16mm rebar could be more effectively applied to heavy support weight at construction sites.

  • The present paper focuses on the development of a model for simulating the thermoelectric behavior of CNTs/CFRP Organic Matrix Composite (OMC) laminates for aeronautical applications. The model is developed within the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes and implemented into commercial ABAQUS Finite Element software and validated by comparison with experimental thermoelectric tests on two types of composites materials, namely Type A with Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) and Type B without CNT. A simplified model, neglecting heat conduction, is also developed for simplifying the identification process. The model is then applied for FEM numerical simulation of the thermoelectric response of aircraft panel structures subjected to electrical loads, in order to discuss the potential danger coming from electrical solicitations. The structural simulations are performed on quasi-isotropic stacking sequences (QI) $[45/-45/90/0]_s$ using composite materials of type A and type B and compared with those obtained on plates made of metallic material (aluminum). For both tested cases-transit of electric current of intermediate intensity (9A) and electrical loading on panels made of composite material-higher heating intensity is observed in composites materials with respect to the corresponding metallic ones.

  • Maximum density and optimum moisture content of a soil may be one of the very important properties to be specified in the design of earth structures and their works. However, the determination of these soil properties may not be done without the necessary equipment and time-consuming field tests. This study was conducted to develop an easier method by determing the relations between the natural moisture content and optimum moisture content and between maximum density and optimum moisture content so determined. These velations are remarkably defferent according to the areas where the samples were taken, and thus analysis of the experimental results are shown by regions as follows: Eastern Districs:{{{{Tdmax= { 1} over {0.0090Wopt+0.417 } ( delta = +- 0.042, gamma =0.92) Wopt=0.251WN+8.5( delta = +- 2.41%, gamma =0.87) }}}} Southern Districts: {{{{Tdmax= { 1} over {0.0088Wopt+0.412 } (delta = +- 0.083, gamma =0.89) Wopt=0.332WN+8.42(delta = +- 3.41%, gamma =0.84)}}}}Central Districtsl1): {{{{Tdmax= { 1} over {0.0112Wopt+0.383} ( delta = +- 0.052, gamma =0.97) Wopt=0.758WN+2.606( delta = +- 4.72%, gamma =0.79)}}}}($\delta$:Standard Deviation, ${\gamma}$:Correlation Coefficient)
