  • A modern optical fiber manufacturing process requires the sufficient cooling of glass fibers freshly drawn from the heated and softened silica preform in the furnace, since the inadequately cooled glass fibers are known to cause improper polymer resin coating on the fiber surface and to adversely affect the product quality of optical fibers. In order to greatly enhance the fiber cooling effectiveness at increasingly high fiber drawing speed, it is necessary to use a dedicated glass fiber cooling unit with helium gas injection between glass fiber drawing and coating processes. The present numerical study features a series of three-dimensional flow and heat transfer computations on the cooling gas and the fast moving glass fiber to analyze the cooling performance of glass fiber cooling unit, in which the helium is supplied through the discretely located rectangular injection holes. The air entrainment into the cooling unit at the fiber inlet is also included in the computational model and it is found to be critical in determining the helium purity in the cooling gas and the cooling effectiveness on glass fiber. The effects of fiber drawing speed and helium injection rate on the helium purity decrease by air entrainment and the glass fiber cooling are also investigated and discussed.

CuO Nanoparticles/polyaniline/CNT fiber 유연 전극 기반의 H2O2 검출용 비효소적 전기화학 센서 (A Non-enzymatic Hydrogen Peroxide Sensor Based on CuO Nanoparticles/polyaniline on Flexible CNT Fiber Electrode)

  • 우리는 금속 산화물 CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs)과 전도성 고분자 Polyaniline (PANI)가 접목된 CNT fiber 유연 전극(CuO NPs/PANI/CNT fiber 전극)을 개발하여 H2O2 검출용 비효소적 전기화학센서에 적용하였다. CNT fiber 표면 위에 PANI와 CuO NPs을 전기화학적 합성/증착을 통해 제작된 CuO NPs/PANI/CNT fiber 전극은 주사전자 현미경(SEM)과 에너지분산형 분광분석법(EDS)을 통해 표면 분석이 수행되었으며, 순환전압 전류법(CV)과 전기화학 임피던스법(EIS), 시간대전류법(CA)을 이용하여 전기화학적 특성 및 H2O2 센싱 성능이 분석되었다. CuO NPs/PANI/CNT fiber 전극은 대조군인 bare CNT fiber 전극과 비교하여 약 4.78배의 유효 표면적 증가를 보였으며, 약 8.33배의 전자 전달 저항(Ret) 감소로 인한 우수한 전기 전도성 및 효율적인 전자전달 등의 전기화학적 특성을 나타냈다. 이런 향상된 전극 특성은 CuO NPs와 PANI의 접목을 통한 시너지 효과에 기인한 것으로, 결과적으로 H2O2 검출에 대한 센싱 성능이 개선되었다.

Fabrication of Chitosan-gold Nanocomposites Combined with Optical Fiber as SERS Substrates to Detect Dopamine Molecules

  • This research was aimed to fabricate an optical fiber-based SERS substrate which can detect dopamine neurotransmitters. Chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) were firstly anchored on the surface of optical fiber, and then gold layer was subsequently deposited on the anchored chitosan NPs via electroless plating method. Finally, chitosan-gold nanocomposites combined with optical fiber reacted with dopamine molecules of 100-1500 mg/day which is a standard daily dose for Parkinson's disease patients. The amplified Raman signal at $1348cm^{-1}$ obtained from optical fiber-based SERS substrate was plotted versus dopamine concentrations (1-10 mM), demonstrating an approximate linearity of Y = 303.03X + 2385.8 ($R^2$ = 0.97) with narrow margin errors. The optical fiber-based Raman system can be potentially applicable to in-vitro (or in-vivo) detection of probe molecules.

분포형 광섬유 센서망을 이용한 외부 음향 주파수 탐지 (Detection of External Sound Frequency by Using the Distributed Fiber Optic Sensor Net)

  • In this paper, to detect external sound frequencies on the latticed structure, fiber optic sensor net using Sagnac interferometer was fabricated and tested. The latticed structure was fabricated with a dimension of 50 cm in width and 50 cm in height. The optical fiber of 50m in length was distributed and fixed on the surface of the latticed structure. Single mode fiber, a laser with 1,550 nm in wavelength, 2 ${\times}$ 2 coupler were used. External sound signal, 240 Hz, 495 Hz, 1.445 kHz, 2k Hz, applied to the fiber optic sensor net and the detected optical signals were compared to the detected microphone signals against time and frequency domains. Based on the experimental results, fiber optic sensor net using Sagnac interferometer detected external sound frequency, effectively. This system can be expanded to the structural health monitoring system.

상대재의 거칠기에 따른 GF/PUR 복합재료의 연삭마모거동 (Behavior of abrasive wear on counterpart roughness of glass fiber reinforcement polyurethane resin composites)

  • The behavior of abrasive wear on counterpart roughness of glass fiber reinforcement polyurethane resin (GF/PUR) composites were investigated at ambient temperature by pin-on-disc friction test. The friction coefficient, cumulative wear volume and surface roughness of these materials against SiC abrasive paper were determined experimentally. The major failure mechanisms were lapping layers, ploughing, delamination, deformation of resin and cracking by scanning electric microscopy (SEM) photograph of the tested surface. As increasing the counterpart roughness the GF/PUR composites indicated higher friction coefficient. The surface roughness of the GF/PUR composites was increased as the sliding velocity was higher and the counterpart roughness was rougher in wear test.

Measurement of Fuzz Fibers on Fabric Surface Using Image Analysis Methods

  • Fuzz on the fabrics, which is the fibers protruded from the fabric surface, is very important in view of appearance quality, since it causes unpleasant appearance on the fabrics and also leads to pilling which makes fabric appearance and soft­ness worse. However, fuzz on fabric surface is measured mostly by subjective methods (human vision) rather than objective methods. Thus, in this study, objective method using image analysis techniques has been developed for the measurement of fuzz on fabric surface. Fuzz on the fabric has also been ranked and rated by experts in order to see the reliability of the results obtained from the fuzz measurement. It was observed that correlation coefficient (r) between rating value and objective mea­surement value was 0.9 and this correlation coefficient value confirmed the reliability of this method.

  • 국부적인 측정을 수행하는 일반적인 광섬유 센서에 비해 분포형 광섬유 센서는 광섬유의 길이방향을 따라 모든 위치에서 측정이 가능하며 보다 넓은 영역의 측정을 수행할 수 있다. 브릴루인 산란 분포형 광섬유 센서를 구조물의 건전성 감시에 이용할 때에는 광섬유 센서의 일반적인 부착 방법인 에폭시를 이용한 표면부착 방법을 사용하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 에폭시를 이용하여 브릴루인 분포형 광섬유 센서를 구조물의 표면에 부착하였을 때 구조물의 변형률 변화를 광섬유 센서가 정확히 측정해 낼 수 있는지에 대해 유한요소법을 통한 검증을 수행하였다. 구조물로부터 에폭시, 광섬유 코팅, 클래딩을 통해 코어로 전달되는 변형률의 전달률을 해석을 통해 확인하였으며 변형률 분포로부터 에폭시 끝 단의 자유 경계면이 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다.

  • 장섬유 복합재료(Long Fiber Prepreg Sheet; LFPS)는 기존 연속섬유로 구성된 섬유 강화 복합재료에 비해 우수한 생산 효율과 성형성을 가지고 있다. 섬유 강화 복합재료가 타 재료와 혼성으로 사용이 되는 경우 이종 재료의 체결을 위해 접착 방법을 사용하게 되며, 접착부의 강도는 혼성 구조물의 강도를 결정하기 때문에 복합재료 접합부의 설계는 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 동시에 경화된 LFPS와 알루미늄의 접합부를 다양한 표면처리 조건과 온도 및 수분 환경조건에 따른 접착 특성을 평가하였다. 표면처리 기법으로는 기계적인 방법인 연마와 플라즈마 표면처리를 대상으로 하였다. 다양한 표면처리가 적용된 접착 조인트는 단면 겹치기 접착 조인트를 사용하여 실험하였다. 여러 조건들에서 접착 강도가 평가되었고 가장 적절한 조건이 도출되었다.

  • Surface profile is an important paramerer to evaluate accuracy of machined worpiece. It is necessary to acquire this data by in-process measurement. Recent researchers have introduced Machine Vision technique to achieve it. But it is difficult to apply it to industry field yet. In this study, in-process measuring system of surface profile is developed using CCD camera. The effect of illuminance according to incident angle is investigated and surface profile from surface tester and illuminance graph are compared experimentally.
