Recently structural monitoring using fiber optic sensors became popular, but the fiber sensors are very difficult to apply to the real structure due to difficulty of handling. In this research, we developed the fiber sensor packages easy to attach or fasten to the structures like ordinary electric sensors. We apply the fiber sensors to the real tunnel structure for measuring the strains and shape changes. The applied fiber optics sensors show the behavior of tile tunnel structures. We summarize the data from tunnel for 2 year construction period and confirm the structural behavior of tunnel.

Due to recent industrial growth and development, there has been a high demand for light and highly durable materials. Therefore, a variety of new materials has been developed. These new materials include carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP or CRP), which is a wear-, fatigue-, heat-, and corrosion-resistant material. Because of its advantageous properties, CFRP is widely used in diverse fields including sporting goods, electronic parts, and medical supplies, as well as aerospace, automobile, and ship materials. However, this new material has several problems, such as delamination around the inlet and outlet holes at drilling, fiber separation, and tearing on the drilled surface. Moreover, drill chips having a fine particulate shape are harmful to the work environment and engineers' health. In fact, they deeply penetrate into machine tools, causing the reduction of lifespan and performance degradation. In this study, CFRP woven and unidirectional prepregs were formed at $45^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$, respectively, in terms of orientation angle. Using a high-speed steel drill and a TiAIN-coated drill, the two materials were tested in three categories: cutting force with respect to RPM and feed speed; shape changes around the input and outlet holes; and the shape of drill chips.
Tire codes are made of materials such as hemp, cotton, rayon, nylon, steel, polyester, glass, and aramid are fiber reinforcement materials that go inside rubber to increase durability, driveability, and stability of vehicle tires. The reinforcement of the tire cord may construct a composite material using tires such as automobiles, trucks, aircraft, bicycles, and fibrous materials such as electric belts and hoses as reinforcement materials. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the adhesive force between the rubber and the reinforced fiber exhibits the desired physical properties in the rubber composite material made of a rubber matrix with reinforced fibers. This study is a study on the heat treatment conditions for improving the adhesion strength of the tire cord and the reinforced fiber for tires. The core technology of the drying process is a uniform drying technology, which has a great influence on the quality of the reinforcement. Therefore, the uniform airflow distribution is determined by the geometry and operating conditions of the dryer. Therefore, this study carried out a numerical analysis of the shape of a drying nozzle for improving the performance of hot air drying in a dryer used for drying the coated reinforced fibers. In addition, the flow characteristics were examined through numerical analysis of the study on the change in the shape of the chamber affecting drying.
Tensile residual stress is occurred by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). TiNi alloy fiber was used to solve the problem of the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of composite with occurring of compressive residual stress in the matrix by its shape memory effect. A hot press method was used to create the optimal fabrication condition for a Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) composite. The bonding effect of the matrix and the reinforcement within the SMA composite by the hot press method was strengthened by cold rolling. In addition, acoustic emission technique was used to quantify the microscopic damage behavior of cold rolled TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite at low temperature. The damage degree for the specimen that underwent thermal shock cycles was also discussed.
In this study, carbon fiber and coated glass fiber are applied to warp and weft fiber in order to reduce the amount of carbon fiber used in carbon fiber fabrics, which are often used for reinforcement of building structures. A low-cost thermoplastic resin was coated on glass fibers to prepare a shape-stabilizing glass fiber. A unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was manufactured using the prepared coated glass fiber and carbon fiber. In order to identify whether it can be used for reinforcing architectural and civil structures, it was attached to a concrete specimen and its mechanical properties were analyzed. The optimum manufacturing conditions for the coated glass fiber were 0.3 mm in diameter of the coating nozzle, the coating temperature was 190 ℃, and the coating speed was 0.3 m/s. 14 mm was optimal for the weft spacing of the coated glass fiber. The flexural strength of the concrete reinforced with the manufactured unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was slightly lower than that of the concrete reinforced with carbon fiber fabric, but it was confirmed that the reinforcement effect was better when the amount of carbon fiber was considered.
The effect of braid construction parameters on yarn cross-sectional shape is presented in this paper. The location of the yam within the braid unit cell is quantified by a compaction factor. A range of braided fabrics were produced and optically measured for actual yarn cross-sectional shape. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental values shows good correlation. Design curves can be produced with the developed model to allow selection of appropriate braid process parameter to create yarns with desired cross-sectional geometries.
In this study TiNi/A16061 shape memory composite is introduced as one of new material using a shape memory alloy. High tensile strength of composite due to compressive residual stress in matrix by the shape memory effect of TiNi fiber can be produced. This composite can remove the tensile residual stress by the difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix. one of the significant weak point of metal matrix composite. In this paper, shape memory composites are made by squeeze casting. And then, microstructure and fatigue properties of the composites by shape memory effect above inverse transformation temperature A, of TiNi alloy are discussed. The results of the fatigue crack control properties of TiNi/A16061 shape memory composite by a squeeze casting are summarized as follows the effect of fatigue crack propagation control at 363K increases according to the increase of volume fraction and prestrain in composites.
Polyurethanes containing poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) unit, PU-Si, were synthesized and their thermal and shape memory properties were investigated. Various amounts of PDMS units were incorporated via a solution polymerization method using mixed diols of poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG) and PDMS-diol as the soft segment (SS) and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as the hard segment (HS). Two series of PU-Si samples with an HS content of 23% or 32% were prepared and analyzed. For PU-Si with an HS content of 23%, both the cold crystallization temperature ($T_{cc}$) and melt crystallization temperature of the SS domain moved higher temperature with increasing PDMS content, while the melting temperature ($T_m$) of the SS domain remained unaffected. The increase in HS content from 23% to 32% resulted in the increased $T_m$ and disappearance of $T_{cc}$. The shape recovery of PU-Si flim with an HS content of 32% increased while its shape retention decreased as PDMS content increased.
This paper reports the fabrication of various micro-lensed single-mode optical fibers through the use of an enhanced peak power $CO_2$ laser beam. The end faces of the optical fibers are exposed to the $CO_2$ laser beam to form convex, concave, and conical shape optical fiber tips. Peak power of the $CO_2$ laser beam was varied from 0.8 W to 1.5 W depending on the shape of the optical fiber tip. We also discover the dependence of the angle of the optical fiber tip on the rotation angle and the number of $CO_2$ laser irradiations. The angle shows an increasing trend with both these parameters. We achieve a wide range of lenticular fibers with end face angle varying from $4.47^{\circ}$ to $8.13^{\circ}$. Furthermore, we investigate the emission pattern of light from the developed micro-lensed fibers. The proposed $CO_2$ laser based optical fiber reshaping technique shows great consistency, and thus is suitable for commercial applications.

Aluminum 5052/Aramid Fiber Reinforced Plastic(Al5052/AFRP) laminates are applied to the fuselage-wing intersection. The Al5052/AFRP laminates suffer from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude during the service. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in Al5052/AFRP laminate was investigated in this study. Al5052/AFRP laminate composite consists of three thin sheets of Al5052 and two layers of unidirectional aramid fibers. The cyclic bending moment fatigue tests were performed with five different levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination zone formed along the fatigue crack between Al5052 sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging mechanism and the delamination zone were studied. Fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study. It represents that the fiber bridging modification factor should turn out to increase and that the fatigue crack growth rate should decrease. The shape of delamination zone turns out to be semi-elliptic with the contour decreased non-linearly toward the crack tip.
