Changes in quality during frozen storage of meat with thermal equalized freezing and various freezing methods were investigated. When beef were frozen at freezing rate of $0.39{\sim}0.66\;cm/h$, average diameter of ice crystal were about $30{\sim}50\;{\mu}m$ and showed broken tissues or irregular cracks. At freezing velocity of $1.14{\sim}2.26\;cm/h$, ice crystals of about $10{\sim}30\;{\mu}m$ was formed mainly inside or between fiber and slight destruction of tissues was occurred. The average diameter (D) of the ice crystals were related to the characteristic freezing time $(t_c)$ by the equation: $D({\mu}m)=4.089+26.88logt_c\;(r^2=0.913)$. Beef with still-air freezing showed higher drip loss than methods of immersion and thermal equalized freezing. Also, drip loss of pork was relatively lower than beef and showed highest value to 7.39% during storage on 40 days at air-blast freezing method. No apparent change of pH during storage of frozen beef and pork by freezing methods were detected. However, least changes for sample with thermal equalized freezing was found compare to sample with still-air and air blast freezing in VBN and TBA value. The fluctuation of frozen storage temperature did not cause noticeable changes on pH and water content. However, drip loss, VBN and TBA values were increased slowly as frequency of fluctuation increased.

We studied the effects of anodic oxidation treatments of carbon fibers on interfacial adhesion of the carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites with various current densities. The surface of treated carbon fibers was characterized by atomic force microscope (AFM), field emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the composites was determined by a short beam shear test. This result showed that both the roughness and oxygen group of the carbon fibers surface increased in proportion to the current density. After anodic-oxidation-treated, the ILSS also increased as a function of the current density. In addition, the proportional relationship between ILSS and phenolic hydroxyl group was confirmed. The ILSS of the CF-2.0 sample increased by 4% compared to that of the CF-AS sample, because the anodic oxidation treatment increased the oxygen group and roughness on the carbon fibers surface, which leading to the improvement of the interfacial adhesion of the carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites. Among these, the phenolic hydroxyl group which has the proportional relationship with ILSS is found to be the most important factor for improving the interfacial adhesion of the carbon fibers-reinforced epoxy matrix composites.
Wood Polymer Composite (WPC) has attracted a great deal of attention in environmental industries due to renewable resources, processability, excellent physical properties and logging regulations for application to housing units and engineering construction materials. In this study, commercial WPCs were prepared by using a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. The effect of three main factors such as wood flour contents, coupling agent concentrations and pre-treatment of wood flour on the properties of WPCs was extensively investigated. It was found that tensile strength and thermal stability were decreased with increasing wood flour contents whereas the water absorption was increased. Addition of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MA) into WPC exhibited better physical properties. On the contrary, the water absorption was slightly decreased with PP-g-MA. Finally the sample, which was prepared with pre-treated wood flour, represented the highest tensile strength. However, the water absorption of the sample was increased due to the transition of crystalline structure of cellulose.

This study focused on the relationships among leaf and smoke components and sensory properties following tobacco leaf blending. A completely randomized experimental design was used to evaluate components of leaf and smoke and sensory properties for sample cigarettes with four mixtures of flue cured and burley tobacco (40:60, 60:40, 80:20 and 100:0). Eleven leaf components, six smoke components, and eight sensory properties of smoking taste were analyzed. A sensory evaluation method known as quantitative descriptive analysis was used to evaluate perceptual strength on a fifteen score scale. Raw data from ten trained panelists were obtained and statistically analyzed. Based on the MANOVA, clustering analysis, correlation matrix and partial least square (PLS) method were applied to find out which smoke component most affected sensory properties. The PLS method was used to remove the influence between explanatory variables in the leaf, smoke components derived from the results. High correlations (p<0.0l) were found among ten specific leaf and smoke components and sensory attributes. Total nitrogen, ammonia, total volatile base, and nitrate in the leaf were significantly correlated (p<0.05) with impact, bitterness, tobacco taste, irritation, smoke volume, and smoke pungency. From the results of PLS analysis, influence variables are used to explain about the correlation. In terms of bitterness, with only two explanatory variables, Leaf $NO_3$ and Leaf crude fiber were enough for guessing their correlation. In the distance weighted least square fitting analysis, carbon monoxide highly influenced bitterness, hay like taste, and smoke volume.

The suspended particulate matters have been collected on membrane filters and glass fiber filters by an 8-stage cascade impactor for 2 years (Sep. 2005${\sim}$Sep. 2007) in Kyung Hee University-Global Campus located on the border of Yongin and Suwon. The 20 chemical species (Al, Mn, Si, Fe, Cu, Pb, Cr, Ni, V, Cd, Ba, $Na^+$, ${NH_4}^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, ${NO_3}^-$, and ${SO_4}^{2-}$) were analyzed by an ICP-AES and an IC after performing proper pre-treatments of each sample filter. Based on these chemical information, the PMF receptor model was applied to identify the source of ambient size-by-size particulate matters. The receptor modeling is the one of the statistical methods to achieve resonable air pollution management strategies. A total of 10 sources was identified in 9 size-ranges such as long-range transport, secondary aerosol, $NH_{4}NO_{3}$ related source, coal combustion, sea-salt, soil, oil combustion, auto emission, incineration, and biomass burning. Especially, the secondary aerosol source assorted in fine and coarse modes was intensively studied.

A normal incidence ellipsometer is fabricated to measure the optical anisotropy of a small spot whose diameter is less than $8.0{\mu}m$, by adding a beam splitter and a prism to the conventional rotating analyzer type ellipsometer. The polarizing actions of the added optical components are calibrated to improve the accuracy of the anisotropy measurement. The standard deviation of the optical anisotropy factor decreased to 0.00083, and the variation of the optical anisotropy factor of rutile versus sample azimuth angle variation also decreased to 0.015, after adoption of a non-polarizing beam splitter and a quarter wavelength phase retarder, followed by removal of the optical fiber and a careful choice of measurement wavelength.
This study evaluates the thermal insulation and evaporative resistance of a waterproof and breathable garment system and determines the factors influencing its thermal performance. The experimental garments were composed of underwear (shirts with 100% wool and 100% polyester) and outerwear (jackets and pants with a vapor-permeable membrane and a vapor-impermeable membrane). Data on clothing insulation in a dry condition ($10^{\circ}C$) and a wet condition ($10^{\circ}C$, 40% R.H.), evaporative resistance ($34^{\circ}C$, 40% R.H., and $10^{\circ}C$, 40% R.H.), and microclimate vapor pressure were collected and analyzed. According to the results, the thermal insulation of the experimental garment system ranged 1.27~1.40 in the dry condition and 0.40~0.89 in the wet condition at $10^{\circ}C$. Evaporative resistance ranged $41{\sim}525m^2Pa/W$. A decrease in thermal insulation by wetting underwear ranged 31~67% in the cold condition ($10^{\circ}C$). The breathability of the outer garment influenced the decrease in thermal insulation by wetting. The type of underwear fiber influenced the decrease in thermal insulation only when it was used with breathable outerwear. The vapor-permeable outerwear sample with polyester underwear (P_Perm) showed a larger decrease in insulation than that with wool (W_Perm). The evaporative resistance of the vapor-permeable ensemble showed no effect of underwear in the warm condition ($34^{\circ}C$), but polyester underwear showed lower evaporative resistance than wool in the cold condition ($10^{\circ}C$). The vapor-impermeable ensemble showed no difference in evaporative resistance between polyester underwear and wool underwear in both conditions. Future research should consider various clothing ensemble combinations and environmental conditions and evaluate wear comfort by using human subjects.

Breakfast sausages containing 1, 2, 3, and 4% sea tangle powder (Lamina japonica) were prepared. No differences were found in moisture, protein, and fat contents among the control and treatments. However, the ash content increased with increasing amounts of sea tangle powder (p<0.05). The pH levels in the treated samples were lower than the control in both the meat batters and the breakfast sausages (p<0.05). The $L^*$ and $a^*$ values of the meat batters and breakfast sausages were decreased by the addition of the sea tangle powder, and the control had the highest $b^*$ value (p<0.05). The added sea tangle powder improved cooking loss and improved emulsion stability. The T4 sample (containing 4% sea tangle powder) was shown to have the lowest cooking loss and water loss (p<0.05). The hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of the treatments increased compared to the control due to the presence of dietary fibers in the sea tangle. In the sensory evaluations, the 1% sea tangle powder treatment received a lower color score, but received significantly higher scores for flavor, tenderness, and juiciness (p<0.05). Collectively, the breakfast sausage containing 1% sea tangle powder was determined to have the highest overall acceptability. Altogether, the best results, in terms of physicochemical and sensory properties, were obtained for the breakfast sausage containing 1% sea tangle powder.
The amount and type of dietary protein that effects affect bone mineral loss after menopause and different dietary patterns may influence anthropometric measurements, biochemical values, and bone metabolism. Objective : Our objective was to investigate bone metabolism and chronic disease factors in two different dietary patterns. Design: The sample consisted of 40 lacto-ove-vegetarians(LOV) and 49 omnivores aged from 47 to 85 years in good condition without any medical problems. Results : The average energy intake of LOV was 1414.0kcal and omnivores, 1403.2kcal. The difference between means was not statistically significant. The differences of means of body weight and BMI between the two groups were not significant but the systolic blood pressure of LOV group was significantly lower than omniovores(p<0.05). The values of serum cholesterol(p<0.05) and glucose(p<0.05) of LOV were signifcantly lower than that of omnivores. The serum albumin level(p<0.01) of LOV was lower than it'scounterpart but in a normal range. The intake of crude fiber(p<0.05) of LOV group was significantly higher. The urinary pH of LOV was 7.4 and that of omnivores was 6.3(p<0.001). Plant calcium(p>0.05) and plant iron(p<0.001) had positive correlations with the uninary pH but animal protein(p>0.05) and animal iron(p>0.05) had negative correlations with the urinary pH. The level of urinary biochemical marker of bone resorption, deoxypyridinoline(DPD) of LOV was significantly lower than the other group(p>0.05). The T-scores of bone mineral density for the two sites in the two groups were not significantly different. Conclusions : The DPD level and urinary pH value of LOV were more desirable for the bone metabolism that the omnivores. The diet of LOV had lower risk factors of chronic diseases than the other group.

In this study, Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) with GC/FID was studied as a possible alternative to liquid-liquid extraction for the analysis of BTEX and MTBE. Experimental parameters affecting the SPME process (such as kind of fibers, adsorption time, desorption time, volume ratio of sample to headspace, salt addition, and magnetic stirring) were optimized. Experimental parameters such as CAR/PDMS, adsorption time of 20 min, desorption time of 5 min at $250^{\circ}C$, headspace volume of 50 mL, sodium chloride (NaCl) concentration of 25% combined with magnetic stirring were selected in optimal experimental conditions for analysis of BTEX and MTBE. The general affinity of analytes to CAR/PDMS fiber was high in the order p-Xylene>Toluene>Ethylbenzene>MTBE>Benzene. The linearity of $R^2$ for BTEX and MTBE was from 0.970 to 0.999 when analyte concentration ranges from $30{\mu}g/L$ to $500{\mu}g/L$, respectively. The relative standard deviation (% RSD) were from 2.5% to 3.2% for concentration of $100{\mu}g/L$ (n=5), respectively. Finally, the limited of detection (LOD) observed in our study for BTEX and MTBE were from $7.5{\mu}g/L$ to $15{\mu}g/L$, respectively.
