In recent years, the use of natural fiber as reinforcement in polymer composites to replace synthetic fiber such as glass fiber is receiving increasing attention. Because of increasing usage according to the high demand, the cost of thermoplastic has increased rapidly over the past decades. We used a thermoplastic polymer(polypropylene) as the matrix and a lignocellulosic material(rice-husk flour) as the reinforcement filler to prepare a particle-reinforced composite to examine the possibility of using lignocellulosic material as reinforcement filler and to determine data of test results for physical, mechanical and morphological properties of the composite according to the reinforcement filler content in respect to thermoplastic polymer, In this study, PLA/PP rice-husk fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites that made by the hot press molding method according to appropriate manufacturing process was evaluated as mechanical properties.

Specialty cellulose fibers processed for the reinforcement of concrete offer relatively high levels of elastic modulus and bond strength. The hydrophilic surfaces of specialty cellulose fibers facilitate their dispersion and bonding in concrete. Specialty cellulose fibers have small effective diameters which are comparable to the cement particle size, and thus promote close packing and development of dense bulk and interface microstructure in the matrix. The relatively high surface area and the close spacing of specialty cellulose fibers when combined with their desirable mechanical characteristic make them quite effective in the suppression and stabilization of microcracks in the concrete matrix. The properties of fresh mixed specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete and the contribution of specialty cellulose fiber to the restrained shrinkage crack reduction potential of cement composites at early age and theirs evaluation are presented in this paper. Results indicated that specialty cellulose fiber reinforcement showed an ability to reduce the total area significantly (as compared to plain concrete and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete.

Objective: This experiment was to determine proper physical traits in the diet for goats by investigating the effects of physically effective neutral detergent fiber (peNDF) content on dry matter intake (DMI), digestibility, and chewing activity in black goats fed with total mixed ration (TMR). Methods: Six growing wethers of Korean native black goats (Capra hircus coreanae) aged 8 months and weighing between 26.9 kg and 27.1 kg ($27.03{\pm}5.05kg$) were used in this experiment. Three diets of varying peNDF content were obtained by original TMR (T1), 12,000 rpm grinding (T2), and 15,500 rpm grinding (T3) of the same TMR diet. The $peNDF_{1.18}$ content of the experimental diets was 23.85%, 21.71%, and 16.22% for T1, T2, and T3, respectively. Results: Average daily gain (ADG) was higher in T2 group compared to those of the control and T3 groups, but ADG and DMI were not affected by the dietary particle size and peNDF content. Also, there was no difference between apparent nutrient digestibility of dry matter, crude fiber, ether extract, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. Although there was no significant difference, rumination and total chewing time were associated with decreased peNDF content. Conclusion: The feeding of peNDF-based TMR showed no impact on apparent nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance. Further studies are required with a wider range of dietary peNDF level and particle size to better identify the effect of dietary peNDF and particle size on chewing activity and performance in goats.
The lubricant tribological characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ fiber and SiC particle hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated by squeeze casting method was investigated using a pin-on-disk wear tester. The wear tests of the MMCs were performed according to fiber/particle hybrid ratio in the planar-random (PR) and normal (N) orientations sliding against a counter steel disk at a fixed speed and $25\;kg_f$ loading under different sliding distances and temperatures. The test results showed that the wear behavior of MMCs varied with fiber orientation and hybrid ratio. At room temperature, the lubricant wear behavior of F20P0 unhybrid PR-MMCs was superior to that of N-MMCs while the hybrid composites exhibited the reverse lubricant wear behavior. It was also revealed that the wear resistance of PR-MMCs was superior to that of the N-MMCs due to the joint action of reinforcements and lubricant film between the friction surfaces at an elevated temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for both fiber only and hybrid cases. In case of $150^{\circ}C$, although the trend of weight loss was similar to that of others, the wear resistance of PR-MMCs was better than that of N-MMCs for hybrid MMCs.
When the charged particle travels in transparent medium with a velocity greater than that of light in the same medium, the electromagnetic field close to the particle polarizes the medium along its path, and then the electrons in the atoms follow the waveform of the pulse which is called as Cerenkov light or radiation. This type of radiation can be easily observed in a spent fuel storage pit. In optical fibers, the Cerenkov light also can be generated due to their dielectric components. Accordingly, the radiation-induced light signals can be obtained using optical fibers without any scintillating material. In this study, to measure the intensities of Cerenkov radiation induced by gamma-rays, we have fabricated the fiber-optic Cerenkov radiation sensor system using silica optical fibers, plastic optical fibers, multi-anode photomultiplier tubes, simulated spent fuel assembly and a scanning system. To characterize the Cerenkov radiation generated in optical fibers, the intensities of Cerenkov radiation generated in the silica and plastic optical fibers were measured. Also, we measured the longitudinal distribution of gamma rays emitted from the Ir-192 isotope by using the fiber-optic Cerenkov radiation sensor system and simulated spent fuel assembly.

The experimental investigation of a coal splitter used in the 500㎿(e) boilers of fossil power plant is carried out to validate the design criteria. To predict air flow and the amount of particles at the exit, velocity and the weight of particles are measured on test planes using the coal splitter model with two-dimensional phase doppler particle analyzer and the glass fiber filter. It is found that the position of guide plate influences significantly both flow rates of gas and particle at the exit. Gas flow rate was a linear function of the guide plate, whereas particle flow rate was a exponential function of it.

An experimental study has been made for heat transfer and particle deposition during the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition process which is currently utilized to manufacture high quality optical waveguides. The distributions of tube wall temperatures, rates and efficiencies of particle deposition were measured. Results indicate that the temperature distributions of the tube wall in the axial direction yield the quasi-steady form in which temperature distributions fit in one curve if the relative distance from the moving torch is used as an axial coordinate. Due to the repeated heatings from the traversing torch, the wall temperatures are shown to reach the minimum ahead of torch and it is shown that the two torch formulation suggested by Park and Choi is valid to predict this minimum temperature. Measured wall temperatures, particle deposition efficiencies and tapered entry length are compared with the previous modelling results and shown to be in agreement.
