  • A study for permeability and erosion characteristics of short fiber reinforced soils was performed. As mixing ratio increases from 0 to 1.0% permeability of short fiber reinforced soils increased but, maximum increment ratio($k_{1.0%}/k_{0%}$) was 8.47. As a result of permeability test with 19, 38 and 60mm fiber reinforced soils, there were no difference in fiber length. Void ratio increased with increment of mixing ratio and decrease of compaction energy and as a result of plotting permeability and void ratio, log k increased linearly by void ratio. As a result of erosion test, soil erosion was decreased sharply by increase of fiber mixing ratio up to 1.0%. Despite increase of soil erosion by slope angle, the increment ratio was decreased by mixing ratio.

  • This study has been performed to investigate the physical and mechanical characteristics of compaction, volume change and compressive strength for reinforced soil mixed with polypropylene fiber, and to confirm the reinforcing effects with admixture such as polypropylene fiber. To this end, a series of compaction test and compression test was conducted for clayey soil(CL) and polypropylene fiber reinforced soil. In order to determine proper moisture contents and mixing ratio, pilot test was carried out for natural soil and PFRS(polypropylene fiber reinforced soil). And the mixing ratio of mono-filament fiber and fibrillated polypropylene fiber admixture was 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5% and 1.0% by the weight of dry soil. From the experimental results, it was found that the optimum moisture contents(OMC) increased with the mixing ratio of fiber, but the maximum dry unit weight and the volume change was decreased with the mixing ratio. It means that the improvement of the workability and the reduction of the weight of embankment was done by the addition of the polypropylene fiber. And, from the compression test results, it was found that the addition of the polypropylene fiber remarkably improved the compressive strength of PFRS. And it was observed in the viewpoint of strength that the fibrillated polypropylene fiber reinforced soil was more effective than the mono-filament polypropylene fiber reinforced soil.

  • Triaxial compression tests were run to study on the undrained strength characteristics of fiber mixed kaolin clay(Hadong). The influence of various test parameters such as amount and aspect ratio(ratio of length to diameter) of fiber, confining stress was also investigated. Test results showed that the increase in aspect ratio was increased in deviator stress at failure, but no effect on pore water pressure at failure. Deviator stress at failure was also increased at 0.5% mixing ratio(weight fraction of fiber to that of soil solid) of fiber but it was, thereafter, decreased and wits reached to constant after 2% mixing ratio. On the contrary, Pore water pressure at failure was increased as mixing ratio of fiber was greater than 1%. Deviator stress and pore water pressure of both clay and fiber mixed clay(FMC) at failure were increased as confining stress was increased. Deviator stress of FMC at failure was about 10% larger than that of clay, but pore water pressure of FMC at failure was almost similar to that of clay.

  • This study is reviewed fire resistance characteristics of high strength concrete according to changes in PP fiber mixing ratio and type of fine aggregate, and the results can be summarized as follows. As fire resistance characteristics, all plain crushed sands prevented spalling regardless of increase in mixing ratio of PP fiber. Mixtures other than the plain showed satisfactory spalling prevention when 0.05 % or more of PP fiber was mixed. After the fire resistance experiment, the plain showed 5.5 % of mass loss rate when fiber was not mixed and others could not be measured. According to increase in mixing ratio of fiber, river sand with fineness modulus of 2.2 showed most satisfactory result of 34 %${\sim}$42 %. Mass loss rate after fire resistance experiment was most satisfactory at about 10 % in the plain crushed sand without mixing of fiber, and all other mixes with 0.05 % PP fiber or more showed 5${\sim}$10 % loss rate.

  • This study was performed to ascertain the three-dimensional effect of the crack reduction and the restrained effect of crack growth, and to yield a suitable mixing ratio of the synthetic fiber reinforced soil. The results of the study are as follows ; 1) The synthetic fiber has the resisting force for crack because of the adhesion due to the attraction of soil particles. 2) As the synthetic fiber length and the mixing ratio are increased, mono filament synthetic fiber reinforced soil is increased the effects of crack reduction and the restraint of crack growth. 3) The fibrillated synthetic fiber is more effective than mono filament synthetic fiber for crack. 4) A suitable mixing ratio of synthetic fiber reinforced soil is 0.5% of the fibrillated synthetic fiber.

  • The high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) technology has been commercialized for fast production of fiber reinforced composite materials. The high-pressure mixing head was one of the most core component of the HP-RTM process. In this study, a mixing head was systematically designed, manufactured and evaluated. This mixing head was composed of a nozzle, a mixing chamber, a cleaning piston part, and an internal mold release part. In actual, a straight-type structure was newly designed instead of the conventional L-type structure for improving the maximum mixing pressure and mixing ratio precision. The performance of mixing head was showed maximum mixing pressure of 15.22MPa and mixing ratio precision of 0.12%. CFRP molding experiments were successfully obtained a 6~11 laminating carbon sheet using HP-RTM presses and specimen molds.

  • $CO_2$ emitted from building materials and construction materials industry reaches about 67 million tons, which occupy about 30 % of $CO_2$ emitted from the construction field. Controls on the use of consumed fossil fuels and reduction of emission gases are essential for the reduction of $CO_2$ in the construction area as we reduce the second and third curing to emit $CO_2$ in the construction materials industry. Accordingly, this study applied the low energy curing admixture (hereinafter "LA") to the extruded panels to observe the physical properties, depending on the mixing amount of fiber, type of fiber and mixing ratio of fiber. The type of fiber did not appear to be a main factor to affect strength, while the LA mixing ratio and mixing amount of fiber appeared to be major factors to affect strength. Especially, the highest strength was developed when the LA mixing ratio was 40%, whereas the test object with the mixing ratio of 50% resulted in the decrease of strength. In addition, it appeared that the mixing ratio of fiber greatly affected flexural strength and strength increased as the mixing ratio increased.

  • HPFRCCs(High performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites) is a class of FRCCs(Fiber reinforced cementitious composites) exhibit multiple crack. Multiple crack lead to improvement in ductility, toughness, and deformation capacity under compressive and tensile stress. These properties of HPFRCCs are affected by type of fiber, water cement ratio, type of admixture and rate of substitution. Furthermore these influence dispersion of fiber, mixing performance and fluidity of mixture. In this paper, HPFRCCs made of steel cord and carbon fiber were tested with water cement ratio, type of admixture and rate of substitution to evaluate characteristics of mixing and flexural strength.

  • Due to the increase in the usage of explosive materials and terrorism, the interest towards the superior explosion protective HPFRCC has risen. In existing research, the optimum ratio for solving the problematic problems such as the optimum fiber incorporation rate and the self-shrinkage crack of HPFRCC had been derived. However, there had been few or even no research upon how effective HPFRCC would perform protective explosion-proof in actual explosion. Therefore, this research compared the explosion-proof performance of HPFRCC according to fiber commination and mixing ratio. As a result, the combination of steel fiber and organic fiber showed excellent flow and strength, and it also improved the explosion resistance.
