복합적층판의 변형파손 동시감지를 위한 광섬유 센서 시스템에 관한 연구 (Study of Optical Fiber Sensor Systems for the Simultaneous Monitoring of Fracture and Strain in Composite Laminates)

  • 본 연구에서는 구조의 건전성을 실시간으로 모니터링하기 위해 변형률 및 파손을 동시에 감지할 수 있는 두 가지 형태의 광섬유 센서 시스템을 제안하였다. 구성된 광섬유 센서 시스템은 파손신호 취득에 사용되는 단파장 광원의 형태에 따라 EDFA에 FBG 사용한 것과 Fabry-Perot 필터를 사용한 것으로 나뉘며 EFPI센서를 통해 복합재 시편의 인장실험을 모니터링 하는데 적용되었다. 먼저, 복합재의 초기파손모드에 해당하는 모재균열 신호의 특징을 알기 위해 압전세라믹 센서를 이용하여 시편의 두께와 폭의 변화에 따른 신호특성을 파악하였다. 정량적 파손신호의 특성 분석을 위해 STFT와 Wavelet Transform과 같은 시간 주파수 변환방법을 사용하였으며, 시편의 형상변화에 따라 모재균열 신호의 주파수영역 특성이 변화함을 확인하였다 광섬유 센서로 취득 된 파손신호 및 변형률 측정값을 각각 압전세라믹 센서와 변형률게이지의 결과 값과 서로 비교하였다. 광섬유 센서 시스템들을 이용한 장시간동안의 인장실험 결과 변형률의 값은 변형률게이지의 측정값과 잘 일치하였으며 파손감지 시스템 또한 미세한 파손신호까지 민감하게 감지해 낼 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 변형률과 파손신호를 동시에 계측하기 위하여 이중복조기를 갖는 광섬유 브래그 격자센서시스템을 제안하였다. 이중복조기는 가변 패브리-페로 필터를 사용하여 변형률과 같이 변화가 큰 저주파신호를 측정하는 복조기와 수동 마흐-젠더 간섭계를 사용하여 파손신호나 충격신호와 같이 미세한 크기의 고주파 신호를 측정하는 복조기로 구성된다. 제안된 광섬유 브래그 격자센서시스템을 이용하여 인장하중을 받는 직교적층 복합재 구조물의 변형률과 파손신호를 동시에 계측할 수 있었다. 하나의 광섬유브래그격자센서로 측정한 변형률과 파손신호를 분석한 결과, 복합재 시편의 90도 층에서 모재균열이 발생할 때 급격한 변형률 변이가 유발되고, 최대 수백킬로헤르쯔에 이르는 주파수 성분을 가진 진동신호가 발생함을 알 수 있었다.

측면 연마된 단일모드 광섬유와 열 광학 다중모드 평면도파로를 이용한 능동형 광 결합기 (Active optical coupler using the side polished single mode fiber and thermo-optic polymer multimode planar waveguide)

  • 본 논문에서는 측면이 연마된 단일모드 광섬유와 폴리머 다중 평면도파로가 결합했을 때 발생하는 모드 결합현상을 이용한 능동형 광결합기를 연구하였다. 제안된 소자는 파장가변 광필터나 광변조기로 이용할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 광도파로 물질의 굴절률, 복굴절, 전기광학 계수, 열광학 계수 등을 측정하는 도구로 응용할 수 있다. BPM으로 최적화된 결합기를 설계하였고, 열광학 폴리머를 능동 평면 도파로층으로 이용하여 결합기를 제작하였다. 제작된 소자는 -0.5dB 이하 손실, 공진파장 -13dB 소멸비. 그리고 열광학 효과에 의해 -1.5nm/$^{\circ}C$ 정도의 파장 가변성을 보였다. 본 연구의 결과로 볼 때 열광학 능동형 광결합기는 광변조기, 파장가변 광필터, 광센서 등으로 이용될 가능성이 높다.

The Evaluation of Evenness of Nonwovens Using Image Analysis Method

  • Authors studied on the applicability of image analysis technique using a scanner with a CCD (charged coupled deviced) to the evaluation of evenness of nonwovens because it has distinctive features to considerably save time and labor in the analysis compared with other classical methods. As specimens fur the experiment, two different types that are unpatterned and patterned ones were prepared. For the unpatterned specimen, webs were chemically bonded, while for the patterned specimen, webs being thermally calendered with engraved roller. Several webs having various areal densities were prepared and bonded. Coefficient of variation (CV%) was used as a parameter to evaluate the evenness. Scanning conditions could be suitably set up through comparing the total variance to the between-group variance and to the within-group variance, respectively, on the images scanned at the different conditions. The 2D convolution method with smoothing filter kernel was introduced to further filter the noises on the scanned images. After the filtering process, the increase of web areal densities gave an uniform decrease of the CV%. This showed that the scanned image analysis with proper filtering process could be successfully applicable to the evaluation of evenness in nonwovens.

Optical VSB Filtering of 12.5-GHz Spaced 64 × 12.4 Gb/s WDM Channels Using a Pair of Fabry-Perot Filters

  • We perform an optical vestigial sideband (VSB) filtering using a pair of Fabry-Perot (FP) filters. The transmittance curve of each FP filter is made to have sharp skirts using an offset between input and output coupling fibers. Moreover, the accurate periodicity of FP filters in the optical frequency domain enables the simultaneous VSB filtering of a large number of optical channels. With this VSB filtering technique, we transmit 12.5-GHz spaced $64{\times}12.4-Gb/s$ wavelength-division-multiplexing channels over a single-mode fiber up to 150 km without any dispersion compensations. When the channel spacing is reduced to 10 GHz, we achieve the spectral efficiency of 1 bit/s/Hz in conventional optical intensity modulation systems up to 125 km.

Photonic Generation of Frequency-tripling Vector Signal Based on Balanced Detection without Precoding or Optical Filter

  • A novel approach for frequency-tripling vector signal generation via balanced detection without precoding and optical filter is proposed. The scheme is mainly utilizing an integrated dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying (DPQPSK) modulator. In the DPQPSK modulator, one QPSK modulator is driven by an RF signal to generate high-order optical sidebands, while the other QPSK modulator is modulated by I/Q data streams to produce baseband vector signal as an optical carrier. After that, a frequency-tripling 16-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (16QAM) vector millimeter-wave (mm-wave) signal can be obtained by balanced detection. The proposed scheme can reduce the complexity of transmitter digital signal processing. The results show that, a 4 Gbaud baseband 16QAM vector signal can be generated at 30 GHz by frequency-tripling. After 10 km single-mode fiber (SMF) transmission, the constellation and eye diagrams of the generated vector signal perform well and a bit-error-rate (BER) below than 1e-3 can be achieved.

  • Thin film filter type 4-channel wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) device was designed and fabricated for the application in optical subscriber loop system. It has multi-mode fiber pigtails and four wavelength division consisting of 0.81, 0.89, 1.2 and 1.3 um. The evaluated performances are 1-2d B of insertion loss(connector loss excluded)and 30-35d B of crosstalk attenuation for all channels. The performance of the fabricated device was tested in the wideband optical transmission experiment, where the SNR degradation due to the crosstalk of the device was found to be within a measurement error.

시료 채취 조건 및 검사방법에 따른 지하수내 섬유상 물질 검출 양상에 관한 연구 (Effect of Sampling and Analytical Methods on the Fibrous Materials from the Ground Water)

  • Authors surveyed the ground water near the waste disposed from a fiberglass production factory to confirm the presence of glassfiber in the water and to determine the effect of sampling conditions and storage on the recovery of fibrous materials in the ground water. Sample was collected at every 4 hours for 48 hours consecutively. After finishing the 48 hours sample, water sampling was done from each tap after repeated turning on and off the water for 30 seconds at each time. Sample was collected in the two 1.5 liter polyethylene bottle after vigorously shaking the bottle with the same water several times with the flowing tap water. At each paired sample, one bottle was stored stand still at room temperature, and the other sample was filtered immediately after sampling. Water was filtered on the Mixed Cellulose Ester filter with negative pressure. Each sample was divided into upper and lower layer. The other bottle was stored at room temperature standstill for 7 days and filtered in the same fashion as the other pair of sample did. Each MCE filter was divided into 4 pieces and one piece was treated with acetone to make it transparent. Each prepared sample was observed by two researchers under the light and polarizing microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ra microanalysis. Fibers were classified by the morphology and polarizing pattern under the polarizing microscope, and count was done. 1. There was a significant fluctuation in number of the fibers, but there was no specific demonstrable pattern. 2. Non-polarizing fibers frequently disappeared after 7 days's storage. But cluster of fibers were found at the wall of the same container by scratching technique. 3. Polarizing fibers were usually found in between the filter and the manicure pasted area. Possible explanations for this phenomenon will be that either these fibers are very light or have electronic polarity. Hence, these fibers are not able to be attached on the surface of slide glass. 4. Under the scanning electron microscopic examination, the fibers which are not refractive under the light microscopy were identified as glassfiber. Other fibers which is refractive under the polarizing microscopy were identified as magnesium silicate fibers. It is strongly suggested that development of standardized method of sample collection and measurement of fibrous material in the water is needed.

Factors Affecting In vitro True Digestibility of Napiergrass

  • Changes of in vitro true digestibility (IVTD) of Napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum) were determined by a filter bag system, and their relationships to chemical composition, leaf to stem ratio, plant height, geographic location, climatic factors and harvest interval were studied and used to develop prediction models for the crude protein (CP), acid-detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral-detergent fiber (NDF) contents and IVTD. Partitioning the total variance of IVTD of Napiergrass showed that 80% was attributable to the effect of harvest interval. Days of growth, plant height, leaf/stem ratio, CP, ADF and NDF of Napiergrass had highly significant relationships (p<0.01) with IVTD. The highest coefficient of correlation between the ADF, NDF, and IVTD of Napiergrass and growth degree days was obtained when the base temperature was set at $0^{\circ}C$. Growth degree days could predict ADF, NDF, and IVTD of Napiergrass more accurately than plant height, and plant height is not suitable to predict IVTD.

  • 에탄올의 발효 생산성을 높이기 위해서는 발효조의 균체농도를 높여 고농도의 배양을 해야하며 또한 에탄올에 의한 저해 작용을 감소시켜 비생산성을 향상시키기 위해서는 발효액 중에 축적되는 에탄올을 배출 시킬 필요가 있다. 이와 같은 목적으로 본 연구에서는 고분자 hollow fiber membrane, ceramic filter를 이용하여 가장 중요한 조작 변수인 희석율과 bleed stream ratio가 에탄올 생산성에 미치는 영향 및 조작의 문제점과 장기 조업 가능성을 검토하였다.
