This report presents a new technical approach for evaluating the fiber orientation of composites using small-angle light scattering (SALS). Glass fiber (GF)/polypropylene (PP) composites with different fiber orientations were prepared by drawing compression-molded specimens. The drawn samples were remelted and then annealed at $150^{\circ}C$ in order to induce a crystalline structure on the fiber surface, and then underwent SALS analysis. The samples showed a combination of circular and streak patterns. The model calculations demonstrated that the number of nuclei on the fiber surface and the thickness of the transcrystalline layer affected the sharpness and intensity of the streak pattern. In addition, the azimuthal angle of the streak pattern was found to be dependent on the direction of the transcrystalline layer, which correlated with the fiber direction. This correlation suggests that the fiber orientation in the composites can be easily evaluated using SALS.

Injection molding is the most widely used process fir the industrial forming of plastic articles. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result. the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experientially. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of welding pars in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection mold shapes on the fiber orientation in case of fiber reinforced polymeric composites are studied experimentally.

TLCP/polyester composite fibers (TPCFs) based on melt blends of PEN, PET, and TLCP were prepared by melt blending and spinning process to achieve high performance fibers. Reinforcement effect and TLCP fibrillar structure resulted in improvement of mechanical properties for TPCFs. The increase in the apparent crystallite size was attributed to the development of larger crystallites and more ordered crystalline structures in the annealed TPCFs. Molecular orientation was an important factor to determine mechanical property of TPCFs.

Ternary blend fibers (TBFs) based on melt blends of PEN, PET, and TLCP were prepared by melt blending and spinning to achieve high performance fibers. The reinforcement effect and the TLCP fibrillar structure resulted in the improvement of mechanical properties for TBFs. Molecular orientation was an important factor in determining the tensile strength and modulus of TBFs. Another part of this research is silica nano-particle filled PEN composites were melt-blended to improve mechanical and physicalproperties, and processability. The tensile modulus and strength were improved adding silica nano-particles to the PEN. The decreased melt viscosity by the fumed silica resulted in the improvement of the processability. The fumed silica may act as a nucleating agent in the PEN matrix.

It has been studied that aminoacetonitrile was associated with the inhibition of collagen fiber, argyrophilic fiber and oxytalan fiber synthesis. This experiment was performed, by the basic knowledge of above mentioned study, to study on the biological effect of aminoacetonitrile to the developing periodontal ligament in Sprague Dawley rat. twenty two of female rats weighing about 200gm were gestated. In 7 days after gestation, the experimental rats were injected aminoacetonitrile 7 times intraperitoneally. After parturition, delivered fJtuses were divided into 4 groups and each group was sacrificed to 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days after delivery, schematically. All the fetuses were observed on their periodontal ligament by histological and histo chemical methods. To study on the components of periodontal ligament fiber in these experimental study van Gieson, Masson's trichrom, argyrophilic fiber, oxytalan fiber, methyl green pyronin and periodic acid-Shiff staining were performed. Results were as follows; 1) Retardation of functional orientation in periodontal ligament collagen fiber was observed in 1 day fetuses hut this appearance was diminished gradually and recovered in normal condition in 7 days fetuses. 2) Distribution of argyrophilic fiber in 1 day fetuses was oriented delicately and loosely but volume of this fiber was gradually thickened and distributed densely. 3) Oxytalan fiber was oriented dendritic ally and contradictorily in 14 days fetuses but their orientation was changed into oblique form in middle portion of roof and their numbers were increased gradually. 4) Pyronin-philic stain of fibroblast was gradually deepened in 7 days fetuses and this finding also suggested to the depreciation of collagen synthesis in this specimen. 5) PAS positive line was observed continuousely at the portion of cervical to the middle root surface.
Methacrylate functional silanes with different methylene spacer groups have been synthesized and the orientation effect and absorption behavior of these silane coupling agent were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The mechanical properties of glass bead/polyester composites are found to be dependent on the spacer group of treated silane coupling agent. The absorption rate of the silane coupling agent onto the fumed silica surface decreases with increasing the number of the methylene spacer in methacrylate functional silanes. Silane molecules containing long spacer groups are adsorbed onto silica slightly bowed with respect to the substrate surface. The relationship between silane molecular structure and mechanical properties of polymer composites is also investigated in order to improve hot/wet properties of glass fiber/polyester composites.
The orthotropic theory is applied for the nonwoven fabrics that have a preferred orientation direction, the case if the structure is not isotropic. The polynomial regression analysis is employed to allow the attainment of more statistically meaningful information. A functional form based on the transformation rule is developed for the orthotropic approach. The predictions thus obtained are seen to be in excellent agreements with experimental data and the resulting compliances exhibit meaningful relationships for the processing conditions. The compatibility of the compliances from tensile and shear analyses has been explored prior to a practical application of the four compliances defining the in-plane strain-stress field.

Interests in human brain functionality and its connectivity have much frown up. DTI (Diffusion tensor imaging) has been known as a non-invasive MR) technique capable of providing information on water diffusion in tissues and the organization of white matter tract. Thus. It can provide us the information on the direction of brain fiber tract and the connectivity among many important cortical regions which can not be examined by other anatomical or functional MRI techniques. In this study. was used the 24 bit color coding scheme on the IDL platform in the windows environment to visualize the orientation of major fiber tracts of brain such as main association, projection, commissural fibers and corticospinal tracts. We additionally implemented a color coding scheme for each directional component and FA (fractional anisotropy), and used various color tables for them to be visualized more definitely. Consequently we implemented a fancy and basic technique to visualize the directional information of fiber tracts efficiently and we confirmed the feasibility of the 24 bit color coding scheme in DTI by visualizing main fiber tracts.
In this work, the structural response of thin-walled composite beams with pretwist angle is investigated by using a mixed beam approach that combines the stiffness and flexibility methods in a unified manner. The Reissner's semi-complimentary energy functional is used to derive the stiffness matrix that approximates the beam in an Euler-Bernoulli level for extension and bending and Vlasov level for torsion. The bending and torsion-related warpings induced by the pretwist effects are derived in a closed form. The developed theory is validated with available literature and detailed finite element structural analysis results using the MSC/NASTRAN. Pretwisted composite beams with rectangular solid and thin-walled box sections are illustrated to validate the current approach. Acceptable correlation has been achieved for cases considered in this study. The effects of pretwist and fiber orientation angles on the static behavior of pretwisted composite beams are also studied.
This research has attempted for a categorization by contemplating on concepts and characteristics of eco fashion design through analysis of precedent studies and to study the design characteristics, images, and internal values through keyword and design codes which appeared in the precedent studies. The subject of analysis was mostly focused on the theses published in international and domestic academic journals from 1990s to September 2009. The design characteristics of each eco fashion design were analyzed by classifying by form, detail, color, fabric and pattern. Method of analysis did content analysis. The results of the research can be summarized as follows. First of all, types of eco fashion design were human-ecology design, natural-ecology design, and social-ecology design. Secondly, the human-ecology design was presented a natural and comfortable form, color of the nature, and functional and new materials. The natural-ecology design was presented a natural silhouette, natural colors, and natural fiber. The social-ecology design were used a loose silhouette and over-size forms, natural colors, and recycled materials and bio fabric. Thirdly, the images per type of eco fashion design were Zen, sportive, natural, and modern image. And the internal values were presented efficiency, health-orientation, naturalness, and continuity.
