  • Various types of functional foods for health (FFH) are popularly used among adolescents. We surveyed 858 students, $15.0 \pm$ 1.6 (14-18) years of age, attending general junior or senior high schools in Korea for FFH use and significant variables for their FFH use including demographic characteristics, food consumption frequency and nutritional beliefs. The use prevalence of FFH was $47.8\%$, and among all types of FFH, nutritional supplements were taken most frequently, followed by red ginseng products > enzyme containing products > plant extract-fermented products. FFH use was higher in older aged-group, subjects lived in small or middle city, and those from families with a high socioeconomic status in comparison to each corresponding group. Health concern on offsprings by parents and usage ratio of FFH by family was higher in users than in nonusers of FFH. Total score of dietary assessment was higher in users than in nonusers of FFH, and users had a more positive view concerning the potential health benefit of FFH than did nonusers. Most users of FFH took FFH when they were healthy ($50.7\%$) , and they did not feel special effects through the FFH use ($57.1\%$) . Most users of FFH got the information on FFH through family and relatives ($61.5\%$) , and most of them purchased FFH at pharmacy or oriental medicine clinics ($55.1\%$) . FFH users preferred vitamin C-and Ca-supplements most among the vitamin mineral supplements belonged to FFH. Given the widespread use of FFH by adolescents, the reasonable use of these products for the contribution to their overall health and well-being is a subject that is emphasized in nutrition education for them. • We examined the effects of synthetic signal peptides, wild-type (WT) and export-defective mutant (MT) of ribose-binding protein, on the conformational changes of signal recognition particle 54 homologue (Ffh) in Escherichia coli. Upon interaction of Ffh with WT peptide, the intrinsic Tyr fluorescence, the transition temperature of thermal unfolding, and the GTPase activity of Ffh decreased in a peptide concentration-dependent manner, while the emission intensity of 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid increased. In contrast, the secondary structure of the protein was not affected. Additionally, polarization of fluorescein-labeled WT increased upon association with Ffh. These results suggest that WT peptide induces the unfolded states of Ffh. The WT-mediated conformational change of Ffh was also revealed to be important in the interaction between SecA and Ffh. However, MT had marginal effect on these conformational changes suggesting that the in vivo functionality of signal peptide is important in the interaction with Ffh and concomitant structural change of the protein.

  • In this paper, we compare the bit-error-rate performance of the fast-frequency-hopped spread-spectrum multiple-access (FFH/SSMA) and direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems in a Rician fading channel. Each system has a same data rate, bandwidth and transmits over a Rician fading channel. The results illustrate tradoffs in performance between the FFH/SSMA and DS/CDMA systems as a function of the parameters such as average signal to noise ratio and processing gain. The performance of the FFH/SSMA system is shown to be less sensitive to the change of fading environments, while the change of processing gain and average signal to noise ratio gives considerable affect to the FFH/SSMA system compared with the DS/CDMA system. Without respect to the change of system parameters, for most of Rician fading channels (except non-fading channel), FFH/SSMA system gives better performance than DS/CDMA system in BBR < 10$\^$-3/.

  • In this paper, a FFH-SS hybrid communication method using digital frequency synthesizer is proposed. This can simultaneously share the same frequency band with conventional band limited communication method without interference. In the experiment the selective hopping pattern is attained by some conbination of serial to parallel conversion of maximal code from pseudo random noise generater, and it is observed that the selective hopping band transition can be more easily achieved when the hop interval is nonuniform than it is uniform. Digital frequency synthesizer is now reported to have very poor spurious suppression ability below 50~60dB, the reason of this is observed from the experimental result, and the way of how to solve this problem is presneted.

  • The global trends of mobile communication system is moving toward digitizing, high-speed and large-capacity. Also, to utilize the limited frequency-resource efficiently, spread spectrum system is a mainstream. In this study we are concerning with the fast frequency-hopping system. Instead of the PLL with many problems such as phase-noise, we used the DDS is popular in these days minimizes the disadvantage of PLL. In the case the FFH system is designed using the PLL, it is difficult to be satisfied of the design conditions such as RF badwidth and the settling time of PLL, and it has limitation because of complex circuit by using the balanced modulator. In this study, we evaluated the performance in order to design the FFH system using the DDS. The system that has the improvement of error rate, 1Mhps hopping rate and 5MHz RF bandwidth is designed and evaluated.

  • In this paper, the transmission characteristics of a frequency-hopped spread spectrum communication system operating in the presence of both time and frequency-selective fading channel is presented. The receiver is a binary noncoherent matched-filter FFH-SS system with square-law combiner. The probability of error to the variations of the parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio, selectivity of a channel, and power ratio is derived with the use of diversity concept without considering the data rate. The analysis of the data for probability of error shoves that the performance of FFH-SS system in time-selective fading channel is better than in frequency-selective fading channel.

  • As of today, Frequency Hopping techniques are widely used for over-channel interference and anti-jamming communication systems. In this paper, analysis the performance of robustness on the focus of some general jamming channel. In FH/SS systems, usually SFH(Slow Frequency Hopping) and FFH(Fast Frequency Hopping) are took up on many special communication systems, the SFH, FFH are also combined with a channel diversity algorithm likes NED(Normalized Envelop Detection), EGC(Equal Gain Combines) and Clipped Combines to overcome jammer's attack. This paper propose Adaptive-NED and shows A-NED will be worked well than the others in the some general jamming environments.

  • The performance of noncoherent fast frequency-hopped spread spectrum multiple access communication systems with square-law combining over fading channel is presented. The expression for the probalility of error as a performance measure is derived by means of momenting function of the dedecision variables, and the cross-covariance of the fading process the ambiguty function of the transmitted signals.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed a performance of fast frequency hopping communication systems when a rayleigh fading caused by envelope variations of a signal received in multipath channel is, but it is not considered that intentional or unintentional jamming can be. The multipath fading channel and rayleigh fading are confirmed by theoretical analysis. In fading or non-fading, the performance of this system is studied. When the path diversity is applied to this system, the performance is shown to be superior to non-diversity systems about 20dB. for modulation methods, BFSK was compared with DPSK.
