Nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ is fabricated by a sol-gel method. The magnetic and structural properties of powders were investigated with XRD, SEM, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and VSM. $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ powders annealed at $300{^{\circ}C}$ have a spinel structure and behaved superparamagnetically. The estimated size of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is about 10 nm. The hyperfine fields at 13 K for the A and B patterns are found to be 533 and 507 kOe, respectively. The ZFC curves are rounded at the blocking temperature ($T_B$)and show a paramagnetic-like behavior above $T_B$. $T_B$ of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is about 250 K. Nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at 400 and $500{^{\circ}C}$ have a typical spinel structure and is ferrimagnetic in nature. The isomer shifts indicate that the iron ions were ferric at the tetrahedral (A) and the octahedral (B). The saturation magnetization of nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at 400 and $500{^{\circ}C}$ are 40 and 43 emu/g, respectively. The magnetic anisotropy constant of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at $300{^{\circ}C}$ were calculated to be 1.6 ${\times}$$10^6$ ergs/$cm^3$.
$Y_{2.5}La_{0.5}Fe_5O_{12}$ is fabricated by a sol-gel method and the magnetic properties of single phase garnet are investigated by using X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, scanning electron microscopy and M$\"{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. The single phase powders garnet was fired at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. The crystal structures of samples are cubic garnet. Mossbauer spectroscopy were measured from 13 K to 750 K. M$\"{o}$ssbauer spectra show that the iron exist ferric trivalence in sample. The spin wave constants were determined $B_{3/2}=0.32{\pm}0.05,\; C_{5/2}=0.18{\pm}0.05$ and Debye temperature were determined 382 K at 24(d) site and 246 K at 16(a)-site. The saturation magnetization $M_s$ of powder is 25 emu/g. 25 emu/g.
Removal and mineralization of dissolved uranium by bacteria in KURT (KAERI Underground Research Tunnel), Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) was investigated. Two different bacteria, IRB (iron-reducing bacteria) and SRB (sulfate-reducing bacteria) was used, and minerals formed by these bacteria were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Compared to uranyl ions, ferric ions were preferentially reduced by IRB, showing that there is no significant reduction and removal of uranium. However, uranium concentration considerably decreased by addition of Mn(II). Results show that a sulfide mineral such as mackinawite (FeS) is formed by SRB respiration through combination of Fe(II) and S without manganese sulfide formation. In the presence of Mn(II), however, uranium is removed effectively, suggesting that the sorption and incorporation of uranium could be affected by Mn(II) onto the sulide minerals.
This review describes the involvement of different microorganisms for the recovery of uranium from the ore. Mainly Acidithiobacillus forrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans are found to be the most widely used bacteria in the bioleaching process of uranium. The bioleaching of uranium generally follows indirect mechanism in which bacteria provide the ferric iron required to oxidize $U^{4+}$. Commercial applications of bioleaching have been incorporated for extracting valuable metals, due to its favorable process economics and reduced environmental problems compared to conventional metal recovery processes such as smelting. At present the uranium is recovered through main bioleaching techniques employed by heap, dump and in situ leaching. Process development has included recognition of the importance of aeration of bioheaps, and improvements in stirred tank reactor design and operation. Concurrently, knowledge of the key microorganisms involved in these processes has advanced, aided by advances in molecular biology to characterize microbial populations.
The purpose of this study was to develop new food materials by analyzing nutritional components and antioxidant activities of Chenopodium album var. centrorubrum. The highest amount of mineral obtained in C. album was found to be $1.01{\pm}0.07mg$ per 100 g of iron. The total phenolic content in C. album was found to be 3.77~9.57 GAE (gallic acid equivalent) mg/g. The reducing activities of leaves and roots of C. album determined using FRAP (ferric-reducing antioxidant power) were higher in ethanol extracts than water extracts. The ABTS radical scavenging activities of leaves and roots of C. album were $204.29{\pm}4.98{\mu}mol/g$ and $106.96{\pm}2.81{\mu}mol/g$, respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activity was high upon extraction using ethanol (roots $20.71{\pm}0.04{\mu}mol/g$, leaves $71.08{\pm}0.33{\mu}mol/g$). HDL-cholesterol was significantly higher in the high fat diet groups supplemented with C. album than the control groups (p<0.05). These results suggest that C. album can be used as a natural antioxidant and a functional dietary supplement.
Magnetite was chosen as a typical adsorbent to study its phosphate adsorption capacity in water body with low concentration of phosphorus (below $2mg\;PL^{-1}$). Magnetite was collected from Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. In this research, three factors have been studied to describe the adsorption of phosphate on magnetite, which was solution concentration (concentration ranging from 0.1 to $2.5mg\;PL^{-1}$), suspension pH (1 to 13) and temperature (ranging from $10^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$). In addition, the modified samples had been characterized with XRD and FE-SEM image. The results show that iron ions contains in magnetite were the main factors of phosphorus removal. The behavior of phosphorus adsorption to substrates could be fitted to both Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal adsorption equations in the low concentration phosphorus water. The theoretical saturated adsorption quantity of magnetite is 0.158 mg/g. pH has great influence on the phosphorus removal of magnetite ore by adsorption. And pH of 3 can receive the best results. While temperature has little effect on it. Magnetite was greatly effective for phosphorus removal in the column experiments, which is a more practical reflection of phosphorous removal combing the adsorption isotherm model and the breakthrough curves. According to the analysis of heavy metals release, the release of heavy metals was very low, they didn't produce the secondary pollution. The mechanism of uptake phosphate is in virtue of chemisorption between phosphate and ferric ion released by magnetite oxidation. The combined investigation of the magnetite showed that it was better substrate for water body with low concentration of phosphorus.
[ $Tb_{3-x}Bi_xFe_5O_{12}$ ] has been studied by x-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer, $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The crystal structures were found to be a cubic garnet structure with space group Ia3d. The lattice constants increase linearly with increasing bismuth concentration. With increase of bismuth substitution, the $N\'{e}el$ temperature increases but the compensation temperature decreases. We have observed the negative magnetization in Bi-TbIG system which has not been reported in garnet systems. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra were measured at various temperatures from 4.2 K to $N\'{e}el$ temperature. The isomer shifts at room temperature are ${\sim}0.26mm/s$ which is consistent with ferric state.
The garnets $Nd_{1-x}Bi_xY_2Fe_5O_{12}$ ($\chi$=0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) have been studied by x-rays, electron microscopy, ferromagnetic resonance, vibrating sample magnetometer and Mossbauer spectroscopy, Ultra-fine polycrystalline cubic samples have been prepared by a melt-salt routed sol-gel method. The Mossbauer spectra consist of two sets of six-line patterns corresponding to $Fe^{3+}$ at the tetrahedral 24(d) and octahedral 16(a) sites. Magnetic hyperfine fields of $Nd_{0.5}Bi_{0.5}Y_2Fe_5O_{12}$ at 12 K are found to be 548 kOe (octahedral site) and 475 kOe (tetrahedral site), respectively, It is found that Debye temperatures for the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of $Nd_{0.75}Bi_{0.25}Y_2Fe_5O_{12}$ are $\theta_{tet}=436$ K and $\theta_{oct}=285$ K, respectively, The iron ions at both sites are highly covalent ferric. The Nel temperature decreases linearly with Bi concentration, from 630 K fur $\chi$=0.0 to 600 K for $\chi$=1.0, suggesting that the superexchange interaction for the Nd-O-Fe link is stronger than that for the Bi-O-Fe link. As a consequence, the coercivity of $Nd_{1-x}Bi_xY_2Fe_5O_{12}$ drastically decreases and the magnetization remains almost constant as x increases.

Methylene blue is the first choice for treating methemoglobinemia, any increase in normal methemoglobin levels. Methemoglobin is an abnormal hemoglobin in which the iron has been oxidized to the ferric(+3) state, making it incapable of oxygen transport. Methemoglobinemia most commonly results from exposure to oxidizing chemicals, but may also arise form genetic, dietary, or even idiopathic etiologies. Patients with low methemoglobin levels are asymptomatic, but high methemoglobin levels can lead to headaches or even death. Methylene blue, the first-line treatment for methemoglobinemia, can also produce hemolytic anemia. Jaundice or dark urine during methylene blue treatment may indicate hemolytic anemia. A 47-year-old female patient with a history of depressive mood disorder developed significant methemoglobinemia after ingesting a Propanil overdose. Twenty-two hours after ingestion, methemoglobin levels in the blood were 73.2%. She was treated with intravenous methylene blue in the therapeutic range (1 mg/kg every 4 h for 3days). The 2nd day after methylene blue use, methemoglobin levels in the blood were 33%, and the 5th day decreased to 10% with better general condition. The patient had hyperbilirubinemia after hemolytic anemia, but she recovered completely.

This research was conducted to elucidate the removal mechanism of heavy metals and sulfate ion from acid mine drainage(AMD) by porous zeolite-slag ceramics (ZS ceramics) packed in a column reactor system. The average removal efficiencies of heavy metals and sulfate ion from AMD by the 1:3(Z:S) porous ZS ceramics in the column reactor under the HRT condition of 24 hours were Al 97.5%, As 98.8%, Cd 86.1%, Cu 96.2%, Fe 99.7%, Mn 64.1%, Pb 97.2%, Zn 66.7%, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ 76.0% during 121 days of operation time. The XRD analysis showed that the ferric iron from AMD could be removed by adsorption and/or ion-exchange on the porous ZS ceramics. In addition it was known that Al, As, Cu, Mn, and Zn could adsorb or coprecipitate on the surface of Fe precipitates such as schwertmannite, ferrihydrite, or goethite. The EDS analysis revealed that Al, Fe, and Mn, which were of relatively high concentration in the AMD, would be adsorbed and/or ion-exchanged on the porous ZS ceramics and also exhibited that Al, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn could be precipitated as the form of metal hydroxide or sulfate and adsorbed or coprecipitated on the surface of Fe precipitates. The microscopic results on the porous ZS ceramics and precipitated sludge in a column reactor system suggested that the heavy metals and sulfate ion from AMD would be eliminated by the multiple mechanisms of coprecipitation, adsorption, ion-exchange as well as precipitation.
