A study was conducted to examine the effect of application of Diazinon at different rates in submerged soil under the application of different N fertilizers; urea, ammonium sulfate and organic fertilizer(fermented chicken dung-sawdust mixture). The levels of Diazinon application were equivalent to zero, 350 mg a. i./ha, 700 mg a. i./ha and 1050 mg a. i./ha. To 100 gr of air-dry soil, 10 mg of N, $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ and different levels of Diazinon were mixed thoroughly and the soil was submerged in 100 ml of distilled water. The submerged soil was incubated at $30^{\circ}C$ for 50 days. Volatilied ammonia was measured at every 10 days. The amount of ammonia volatilization was greatest in urea treated soil, followed by organic fertilizer and it was the least in ammonium sulfate treated soil. The application of Diazinon at 700 mg a. i./ha increased the volatilization of ammonia greatly in the urea treated soil. Under other fertilizers, the effect of Diazinon application was not remarkable. The increase in the soil pH during the incubation period under different fertilizer treatments tended to increase ammonia volatilization.

This study carried out to investigate the effects of the types of animal manure and the dogies of the slope on productivity of com and the runoff of nitrogen and phosphorus in corn cultivation soil. Main plots were consisted of the degrees of slope, such as $0\%\;9\%$ and $18\%$ and the subplots on consisted of the types of animal manure, such as chemical fertilizer (CF), compost of swine manure fermented with sawdust (CSMFS), and cattle slurry (CS). Erosion was constructed with 0.33 m width, 3 m length and 0.4 m height. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Dry matter(DM) yield of corn decreased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope DM yield reveals that there is an increase in order CS > CF > CSMFS. 2. Nitrogen contents of the whole corn reveals that there is an increase in order CF>CS>CSMFS. However, nitrogen content was not affected by the degrees of slope. 3. Nitrogen yields (NY) of com decreased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope. NY of CS increased more than 2.0 fold as compared CSMFS. 4. Mineral nitrogen content in the runoff during the experiment was hardly influenced by both the degrees of slope and the types of animal manure. 5. $NO_3$ - N in the runoff during the experiment increased by an enhancement of the degrees of slope. 6. In the degrees of slope used in this experiment, $NH_4$-N and $PO_4$-P content in runoff was lower than 8 ug / ul and 1 ug/ul, respectively.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of different mixture ratios of vermicasts on the growth of leaf beet(Beta vulgaris var. cicla), young radish (Raphanus sativus L), spinach(Spinacia oleracea) and lettuce(Lactuca sativa) The mixture of ratios of vermicast(fermented pig manure with sawdust) and peatmoss were 100%+0%, 60%+40%, 40%+60% and 0%+100%(control), respectively. The bulk density, particle density, pH, electrolytic conductivity, ash, total nitrogen, cation exchange capacity, available phosphorous and exchangeable cations increased significantly compared to those grown in the 100% of peatmoss(control). The significantly higher values of plant length, leaf area, shoot dry weight, root weight, root length and biological yield obtained were $40{\sim}100%$ and 40% of vermicast in leaf beet and lettuce, respectively. The young radish and spinach showed that significantly differences of shoot dry weight, root weight and biological yield in the mixture ratios of vermicast were $40{\sim}60%$ and 40% in young radish and spinach, respectively.
Artificial cultivation of Lyopyllun decastes is costly because the high expense is required for soil covering and bark. Therefore, most farmers of Lyopyllun decastes have recognized it is difficult to cultivate it. The purpose of this study is to reduce the cost of cultivation of Lyopyllun decastes by applying new cultivation method and introducing mutation of fungi. In this study, a new method of practical artificial cultivation was developed through many experiments using fermented pine sawdust and wheat bran. In conclusion, the method of practical artificial cultivation of Lyopyllun decaste is simple and cost efficient because neither soil covering nor bark is required.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of application levels of swine waste and chemical fertilizer on productivity of corn and nitrogen and phosphorus leaching in Lysimeter containing sandy loam soil. Main Plots were consisted of two types of swine waste, such as swine slurry(SS) and compost of swine manure fermented with sawdust(CSMFS), and chemical fertilizer(CF) and the subplots were consisted of application levels of N-fertilezer, such as 100kgN/ha, 200kgN/ha and 400kgN/ha. Lysimeters were constructed with 1m depth, 30cm diameter. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1. Dry matter(DM) yield of com enhanced as increased application levels of SS, CSMFS and CF. DM yield reveals that there is an increase in order CS > SS > CSMFS. 2. Nitrogen contents of the whole corn enhanced as increased application levels of SS, CSMFS and CF. Nitrogen content reveals that there is an increase in order CS > SS > CSMFS. 3. $NO_3^{-}$ and P contents in the leaching water increased as increased application levels of SS, CSMFS and CF. $NO_3^{-}$ content was highly elevated in the concentrated rainy season in the experimental early stage. However, P content was affected with the rainfall. The maximum $NO_3^{-}$ and P contents in the leaching water were 14.8ppm and 0.26ppm, respectively.ively.

Experiments were conducted on established grassland sward at Gongiam, Kwangju, and Kyung-gi in Korea from 1995 to 1997. The influence of mineral-N fertilizer or animal manure(AW) on herbage dry matter(DM) yield, N yield, the recovery of AM-N, and soil N and organic matter(0M) content in the mixed sward('potomac' orchardgrass, 'fawn' tall fescue, and 'kenblue' Kentuky bluegrass) was investigated. The treatments were replicated three times in a split plot block design. AM(the main plots) was applied at 200kg N ha ' year ' on each plot. The types of AM were cattle feedlot manure(CFM), pig manure fermented with sawdust(PMFS) and Korea native cattle slurry(KNCS). Three levels of mineral-N fertilizer, as urea, ranging from 0 to 200kg N $ha^{-1}\;year^{-1}$ in 100kg increments, were superimposed on each plot. The fertilizers and AM were applied in two equal dressings(the end of March and middle of November). AM and mineral fertilizer had significant effects(p<0.05) on herbage DM and N yields. Herbage yields in KNCS were higher than those in CFM and PMFS(p
Edible insects have recently been increasingly promoted as a source of protein. As the number of farms rearing these insect increases, it is important to develop safe and nutritious feed sources to improve their commercial quality. The aim of the current study was to determine the effect of food by-products as feed supplements for the Korean rhinoceros beetle, Allomyrina dichotoma, which has been registered as a general food ingredient in Korea. We compared the effects of waste citrus peel, soybean curd cake, soybean oil meal, and brewers' dried grain on the growth of third instar larvae of A. dichotoma. Groups of larvae were fed with fermented sawdust and nine different combinations of the above by-products and the effects on their growth were measured until pupation. The highest survival rate was with feed supplemented with 10% brewers' dried grain (66.7%, p<0.05), and these larvae were also 26% heavier (p<0.05) than the control group that received no supplementation. In the 10% brewers' dried grain group, the larval period of third instar was shortened by almost 28 days (p<0.01) compared to the control group. Of all the groups, only that which was fed the brewers' dried grain supplement showed more than a 90% pupation rate (p<0.05). Therefore, brewers' dried grain may be useful as a source of feed for A. dichotoma.
This study sought to identify the optimum substrate composition for the stable bottle cultivation of Sparassis latifolia. The main substrate was fermented larch sawdust. Six nutrient sources were mixed at a maximum volume ratio of 20%. The fresh weight of fruit body was the highest at 128.5 g for GMSL69033 and 126.6 g for 'Neoul' in the treatments of beet pulp and corn flour in a volume ratio of 15:5. In addition, the total cultivation period was 94 days, which was shorter than that required for other treatments. The selected substrate characteristics were pH 4.7, C:N (carbon to nitrogen) ratio of 106:4, moisture content of 70%, and air filling porosity of 38%. We plan to develop new income items through research on mycelial incubation and fruit body growth conditions.

The paper board sludge(PBS) itself and compost sludge manure(CSM) mixed with sawdust, fowl droppings and urea to the PBS were treated to soybean plants to find the effects of growing characters, yield components, and nutritional compounds in the plant tissues. 1. Percentages of missing plants were 5-9% and 3.6-4.1% in the treatments of PBS and CSM, respectively. After that, the plants were restored to normal conditions. Anyway it is not desirable to use the paper board sludge and immature compost sludge manure in seeding time or to young seedlings. 2. Growth of the plant height was retarded in early growing phase, but it was normal in later stages. And the width and length of the largest leaf, numbers of main stem nodes and pods were not significant among the treatments. 3. The yield intends to increase through the treatments of 1,200, 1,600, and 2,000Kg PBS per 10a. In the CSM treatments with high rate of sawdust, fowl droppings and urea, the numbers of pods and grains were higher than the treatment of high content of PBS. 100-grain and one liter weights were opposite intention. It was suggested that the excess nitrogen amounts from the compost sludge manure than conventional fertilization affected to the yield components. 4. The contents of the main chemical compounds such as N, $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$, Ca, Mg were determined. The concentrations of nitrogen were higher in the treatment of PBS and CSM than none and control. 5. In conclusion, the nutritional effects of PBS were in evidence. To use the sludges, it should be fermented with adequate additives to improve the aeration, C/N ratio, activity of microbial, and other conditions. The sludges could be used to crops as a fertilizers effectively.

The larva of the white-spotted flower chafer, Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (Coleoptera: Cetoniidae), is known to have important medicinal properties, such as anti-cancer activity. However, the consumer market for the larvae is depressed because of its high production cost which needs to be reduced. This study was carried out to evaluate two spent mushroom substrates as food source for chafer larvae to improve the productivity and reduce production cost. The larvae were fed with spent substrates of king oyster mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) (P-SMS) and shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) (L-SMS), with a control of fermented oak sawdust. Effects of the diets on the development of P. brevitarsis seulensis and contents of minor nutrient components in the larvae produced were examined. In the P-SMS diet, the larval rearing period was shorter at 16.2 days, while the rate of larval weight gain and the cocoon weight were higher at 156.3% and 4.1 g, respectively, than that in the L-SMS diet. The pupation rate was 100% and the adult emergence was higher at 93.3% in the P-SMS diet than in the L-SMS diet with no difference to the control diet. In the P-SMS diet, the total nitrogen content during rearing was higher at 10.28% and the minor nutrient component, particularly Fe (145.8 mg/kg), was higher than that in other diets. The oviposition preference of adults showed no significant difference among the diets. Economic analysis showed that P-SMS costs approximately 667,960 Won less per 100 kg of larvae produced, compared to that of the control diet.
