In the female high school students, there were significant differences in the contraceptive knowledge according to grade, academic record, sex education experience and there were significant differences in the contraceptive self-efficacy according to grade, academic record, parents' attitude about acquaintance of the opposite sex. In the technical female high school students, there was not significant difference in the contraceptive knowledge according to demographic, sexual behavior, and contraceptive related characteristics but there were significant differences in the contraceptive self-efficacy according to grade, parents' attitude about acquaintance of the opposite sex, contraceptive education experience at school. There was positive relationship between contraceptive knowledge and contraceptive self-efficacy. • Purpose: Alcohol use in South Korean women, particularly college students, is increasing. Women are more vulnerable than men to alcohol use, which puts them at greater risk of physical and psychosocial problems. Some studies have reported that on failing to find meaning in life, many South Korean college students experience depression, subsequently using alcohol as a coping mechanism. This study aimed to develop a logotherapeutic program and identify its effects on meaning in life, depression, and problem drinking among female college students. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental trial. The participants were female college students who scored over 8 in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Twenty-four students were assigned to the experimental group and twenty-three to the control group. Three scales were used in this study: the Purpose in Life test, Beck Depression Inventory, and AUDIT. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test in SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: After the conclusion of the logotherapeutic program, the level of meaning in life and depression were more greatly improved in the experimental group than the control group. Conclusion: The logotherapeutic program is an effective method to help female college students find meaning in life and reduce depression in this population.

  • This study was performed to compare dietary behaviors based on residence types of female college students. Self reports on dietary behavior and one-day dietary records were obtained from 227 female college students using anonymous questionnaires. The mean age of the subjects was $20.4{\pm}1.43$, and the height and weight were $162.5{\pm}4.8cm$ and $52.3{\pm}7.9kg$, respectively, The dietary behavior of female college students was inadequate, showing indifference to dietary balance, irregularity of meals, skipping breakfast, and high experience of drinking. One-day dietary records were obtained from 24k recall methods also showed a high number registering skipped meal status ($55.3\%$) and less diverse food intake (DVS, 12.5; DDS, 3.93). The students in self boarding residence were especially more likely not to eat properly and their dietary behaviors were found to be significantly poor. In the case of home residence, food intake frequency scores for milk and dairy products, fruits, and fishes were significantly higher, however the students in self boarding residences showed high food intake frequency scores in salted food, retort food, canned food, and especially instant ramyun. Therefore, more attention needs to be given to them to recognize the problems in their own dietary behaviors and more practical nutritional supports, like developing a menu for breakfast in college cafeterias, would be helpful to improve their dietary choices.

  • These days effective science education programs are required for girls to encourage them to pursue their career in science and engineering areas. This paper presents the preliminary results of an analysis performed to measure the effectiveness of a middle school education program, in which a science fiction movie as a multimedia educational material is shown to students and afterward discussion and review process for the scientific subjects included in the movie are given to them. The analysis is based on a study of students' responses on surveys performed after showing the science fiction movies during a science camp and a regular school class. The survey results of female students are compared with those of male students. The results indicate that the education program using science fiction movies could be more effective to female students than to male students in motivating and enhancing their interest in scientific subjects. A preliminary guide and afterward review and discussion on the scientific contents dealt in the movie turned out to be helpful to enhance the effectiveness of this science education program.
