This study was designed to investigate the family burden, family home care needs and to identify the relationship between family burden and home care needs for families of psychiatric in-patients. The subjects for this study were 104 family members of psychiatric in-patients at two private hospitals and one municipal hospital. The data were collected during the period from February 1. 1993 to March 30. 1993. The questionnaire developed by Montgomery to measure the family burden was used as modified by the research team for this study. The questionnaire was developed by Garrad to measure the home care need was also used as modifed by the research team. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOV A and Pearson Correlation Coeffcient. with the SPSS program. The Result of this study can be summarized as follows ; 1. For perceived family burden, the meanscore as measured by the guestionnaire was 70.6 of a possible to total of 110. 2. For home care need. the meanscore as measured by the questionnaire was 44.8 fo a possible total of 66. 3. The results showed a higher score for cases from the municipal hospital for family burden and a higher score for cases at the private hospitals for home care need. 4. Ther was a statistically significantly higher score on family burden for female family member (T =-2.77. P<.05) and for bereaved family members. (F=2.862. p<.05) 5. There was a statistically significantly higher score (F= 10.3535, P<.001) for family burden when the hospitalization period was between 7~ 12 months and a statistically significantly higher score (F =7.679.P<.001) for home care need when the hospitalization period was over 37 months. 6. Ther was a significant correlation between family burden and home care need. (r=.4002, P<.05) The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that addressing home care needs would contribute to reduce family burden.
Diabetes Mellitus is a worldwide disease affecting millions of persons and appears to be on the increase in Korea. At the present time it can not be cured but can be controlled. To achieve control the patient must know about the disease. Education of the patient is an essential part of the management of the diabetic and is the responsibility of the nurse. The educational program must be adapted according to patient's knowledge and attitude about their diseases. Therefore, the opportunity to assess the knowledge and attitude of diabetics must provided. The objectives of this study were : 1. To describe the general characteristics of the study population. 2. To find out the characteries of experience of treatment. 3. To exams the knowledge and attitude of diabetics about the self-control. 4. To learn the influencing factors affecting the knowledge and attitude of diabetics about self - control. The study population defined and selected was 65 diabetics registered at the Diabetic Clinic of 5. hospital who visited the Diabetic Clinic from April 16, 1976 to May 14, 1976. The direct interview method was used. Statistical analysis of the data was X²- test. The following results were obtained : A. General characteristics of the study population : The respondent's average age was 50. 8 years old, sex ratio(male to female) revealed as 1 : 1.1, economic background was upper middle class, the most respondents had better than- average education, 75.4 Percents of the respondents lived in Seoul, 47. 2 percents were unemployed, the average size of family was 5.3 and 47.7 percents of respondents had religions. B. The characteristics of clinical experience : The average duration was 7.0 years, 46.1 percents of respondents had experience of hospitalization, 56.9 percents was taking oral drugs, 67.7 percents examined urine- sugar at home, 60.0 Percents had treat compilations and 20.0 percents had experience of coma. C. There was significant difference in the relationship : Between complications and durations of diabetes, hospitalization and therapeutic methods.
The main purpose of this study was to test the validity and reliability of FIPS as an assessment tool for pain in children. The subject were 81 children whose ages ranged from 3 to 14 years old who were experiencing pain from an intramuscular injection. 40 were being seen in a local primary hospital and 41 in a university hospital. The data were collected in two settings at a 6 month interval, the first was on Nov. 5th 1991 in a local clinic by one doctor, the second was on May 1st. 1992 in a university hospital by two nurse. McGrath's(1985) face interval cards and weight box scale which is a numeral scale that contains from one to five boxes of cards were used as measures. To analyze the subject's ability to use the face scale and weight box scale, statistical frequency was employed. To determine the difference in the rated pain in-tensity on the face interval scale and the weight box, Pearson correlation coefficient and t-test were employed. To compare the difference in the rated pain intensity of the face interval scale and the weight box scale according to subject's general characteristics, X²-test was employed. The findings were as follows : 1. The subject's ages were from 3 to 14 with a mean age of 8.3 years old. There were 54(66.7%) male children and 27(33.3%) female children. 2. The number of subjects who correctly displayed cards ranging from none to severe pain was 66(81.5%) and the number who correctly compared two cards 3 times was 73(90.l%). 3. Correlation coefficients between each level card of the FIPS and WBS (Weight Box Scale) were r=.52∼.80 P<0.01. 4. There was no statistical difference in rating of the intensity on the FIPS and WBS.(t=1.12∼l.02, P<0.22∼0.45). 5. The differences in rating pain intensity according to the children's general characteristics were re-lated to age(X²=8.94, P<0.05), but not to sex (X²=0.23, P=0.80).
This investigated 205 dental personnel in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do to find out the effects of Dental Hygienist(Nurse's Aide)'s coaching leadership on job satisfaction, motivational self-concept and quality of life. the entire average of coaching leadership was 2.67 On 5 point scale, development coaching 2.61, relationship coaching 2.61. "my boss fully provides me with training opportunities for my development' had the lowest 2.50. As for coaching leadership according to general characteristics, had the highest average those aged of 20-25years old, work experience of 1-5years, single, salary less than 20 million, female immediate superior, immediate superior aged 20-30years old, position of immediate superior is team head, senior dental hygienists(p<.05). The three criteria had positive correlation with coaching leadership(p<.05). Therefore, Right coaching leadership increases job satisfaction, improves motivational self-concept for increasing individual development, raises quality of life.
This study was performed to identify the drug use and reuse relating characteristics and reuse relating factors in illegal drug users. Subjects consisted of 88 illegal drug users. Some of them were confined in a mental hospital or National Forensic Psychiatric Hospital located in Chung-nam province, others on attending a drug abuse prevention program in Seoul Probational Institute. Data were collected during the period from February 1, 2002 to February 25, 2002, and analyzed by SAS program. version 6.12. for Wilcoxon rank sum test, Pearson Correlation, Multiple regression. Results were as follows; 1. Drug use characteristics were as follows. $19.3\%$ was has drug family history and $20.7\%$ was has alcohol family history. Main drug was Phillopon$44.3\%$, inhalants $35.2\%$, LSD et al $22.7\%$. Drug use rate of months was everyday $31.2\%$, every other day $24.4\%$. 2. $100\%$ has experienced abstinence and reuse. Abstinence period was less than 12 months in $49.4\%$ and reuse period was less than 6 months in $58.6\%$. 3. Drug use and reuse characteristics related to general characteristics was identified as below. Abstinence period of male was longer than that of female. Person who have drug family history experienced more drugs and person who have family alcohol history started earlier. 4. Reuse periods was correlated with abstinence periods, age. And abstinence period was correlated with age and outcome that following reuse. 5. The multiple regression was used to identify the relating factors that influence reuse period and abstinence period. At the state of controlling abstinence period. inhalants users have 10.07 days shorter reuse period than others. And abstinence period had lengthened age, bad health status, early initiate age, and long reuse period.
Through the histological and anatomical investigation of silkworm gonad, N. bombycis infection was found to begin from the peripheral region of ovarial sheath or testicular sheath, then, the pathogens spread to the inner portion. Peroral inoculation with purified spores of N. bombycis to 2nd instar larvae at dosages around 106-8/㎤ of artificial diet resulted in the extremely extended larval survival as long as 15 to 22 days of 4th instar. The growth of ovarioles was confirmed in the 10 to 14 day old larvae, oogonia developed into oocytes and nurse cell against heavy infection of the ovary. Gonads rarely obstructed oogenesis and spermatogenesis in the pupae failed in adult eclosion. Light infection of female hosts effected insignificantly on the ovarial development, however, recorded 100% transmission of the pathogens to the progeny populations. Conclusively, ovarial inflection of silkworm induce transovarial transmission begins around 2~3 day old pupae when ovarioles extruded out to hemocoel, and the infection period thought to be continued until the stage of eggs complete shell formation in the ovariole.
From Jan 2002 to June 2011, we evaluated 4419 cases of radiation dose of 323 radiation related individuals consist of physician, nurses, technician and others in local C national university hospital. On annual analysis, year 2003 ranked the highest and 2007 the lowest dose. Dose was relatively higher in male than female. Dose was highest in 30s on age basis analysis. Dose was high in order of physician, nurse, and technician. Average radiation dose was high in order of cardiovascular center, radiologic intervention ceter, radiologist individuals, and fluoroscopic contrast study room. Those doses did not excess the standard dose recommended by ICRP (20mSv/year). However unlike average dose, there are wide variations of dose in individuals. Therefore radiation related workers should do one's best in personal radiation exposure dose management for achievement of minimum dose of radiation.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the operational status of the midwifery birthing centers (MBCs) and midwives' job status (Phase 1) and to develop midwifery practice guidelines (MPG) (Phase 2) in Korea. Methods: In the first phase, the subjects were 15 midwives who operated 11 of 14 MBCs that were opened as of August 2018. The questionnaire consisted of items to measure the operational status of the MBC and midwives' job status. In the second phase, the MPG was developed from literature review, interviews with five midwives opening their MBCs, surveys with 74 midwives, and a validity evaluation conducted by seven experts. Results: The distribution of operating MBCs was five in Gyunggi-do, two each in Seoul and Incheon, one each in Busan, Chungcheongbuk-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeju-do. The mean age of midwives was 54.3 and all were female. In 2017, a total of 762 births including 81 homebirths were performed by midwives. The job performance was highest in the order of neonatal care 3.81, childbirth care 3.56, and postpartal care 3.53, respectively. The MPG included seven areas of prenatal care, childbirth care, postpartal care, neonatal care, primary health care, law/ethics, and administration, with 56 tasks and 166 task elements. Conclusion: This study provides the valid basic data for the operational status of the MBC and the midwives' job status. The MPG describes the midwife's job and may be used as basic data for preparing policies for the development of midwifery practice in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of empathy and communication skill on clinical stress of college students in the convergence society. The participants were 211 college students, data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, Multiple regression. It was found that: nursing students showed higher clinical stress in case of lower level of school satisfaction, major satisfaction, clinical satisfaction, the difficult of relationship with head nurse, and female student. Significant negative correlation were found between communication skill and clinical stress. The factors influencing clinical stress were clinical satisfaction, communication skill and gender. In order to reduce clinical stress among nursing students, it is needed to find various ways improving communication skills, such as educational courses and intervention, and to figure out associate variables and multilateral research to enhance clinical satisfaction.
Lung granulomas are uncommon in Thailand. The disease typically develops from an occupational environment and is mostly caused by infection. Herein is a case report of a female patient, aged 48, working as a nurse in an Accident and Emergency Department at a hospital. Eighteen years prior to admission the patient was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis and pulmonary tuberculosis. The chest X-ray and CT scans showed a solitary pulmonary nodule in the lower left lung. The patient received an open thoracotomy with a left lobectomy. Granulomatous and nonseptate hyphae were found in the pathology diagnosis. The patient was thus diagnosed as having a lung granuloma. The galactomannan antigen test was positive. The solitary pulmonary nodule-found from the use of a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test-was an Aspergillus spp. The fungus culture was collected from air samples. The air samples were collected by the impaction technique using a microbial air sampler. Three types of Aspergillus spp. were found as well as Penicillium spp. and Monilia sitophila. The Aspergillus spp. was a match for the patient's disease. The patient was diagnosed as having a lung granuloma possibly Aspergillus nodule which was caused by airborne Aspergillus spp. from the occupational environment.
