Two bitches were presented to the Teaching Animal Hospital, Chonbuk National University with vagina prolapse along with prolapse of the bladder. Case 1 was a 2 years old, 38.5 kg, female Tosa dog which had slight shock and depression. She had a labor pain vagina prolapse since last 3 days. Case 2 was a 2 years old, 25 kg, female Rottweiler dog which was presented with the similar clinical signs with case 1. In both the dogs we performed plain radiography, CBC, blood chemistry and urine analysis. In case 1, we performed cesarean section along with the repositioning the vagina and the bladder. We found 13 fetuses among which 7 were alive. In case 2, we also performed cesarean section and recovered the fetuses. There were 7 fetuses but only one was alive. Among the 6 dead fetuses 3 were congenitally deformed. Then we reduced prolapsed vagina and bladder, and repositioned them. After that we performed ovariohysterectomy. Both the bitches become recovered from the prolapse of the vagina and bladder and there was no recurrence of the condition.

A 10-year-old, female mixed breed dog and a 3-year-old, female chihuahua which had swelling below lower eyelid were refered to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University. The plain maxillary oblique view revealed radiolucency at periapical area in maxillary fourth premolar. The 2 cases were diagnosed as periapical abscess by clinical sign and radiographs, and apicoectomies were performed for resetting the lesions and preserving the teeth. Under general anesthesia with isoflurane, periapical abscess was resected by burs and the defect was filled with zinc phosphate cement. Radiograph was perfomed at 1 week and 1 year after apicoectomy and there was no evidence of recurrence.

The prevalence of canine heartworm(Dirofilaria immitis) infection in 150 mixed-breed dogs(male : 54, female : 96) from February to December 1997 was investigated by using antigen test kit(ICT $GOLD^{TM}$ HW, Synbiotics, USA) based on immunochromatographic assay in Inchon city. Also, gross and histopathological findings of an antigen positive dog were carried out. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Four dogs were positive from 150 tested dogs(2.7%). They were all more than 2 years old and infection rates in male and outdoor dogs was higher than those in female and indoor, respectively. Species of infected dogs were Pug(2) , German Sheperd(1) and Great-dane (1). 2. Regional infection rates were closely related with housing system in the city. 3. Pathological findings of antigen-positive dog was excessive enlargement, congestion and hemorrhage of lung and D immitis in heart and histologically hemosiderin, hypertrophy of pulmonary alveoli wall and irregular hypertrophy of pulmonary artery inner wall. Microfilaria was observed in pulmonary artery and arteriole, ventricle and splenic artery.

Kami-honghwa-tang(KH-19) is a prescription for reducing the side effect of radiotherapy. In this study, safety of KH-19 was evaluated by GLP guideline of Korea Food and Drug Administration. In acute oral toxicity study on rat, transient inhibition of weight increase was shown, but change in general symptom was not detected. No dead animal was observed up to 5,000 mg/kg in both male and female animals. In acute oral toxicity study on Beagle dog, transient vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and weight reduction was observed. However, no dead animal was observed up to 2,000 mg/kg in both male and female animals.

This study was performed to compare the individual characteristics of the vocalization and behavior in the adult female German Shepherd in military service. In this study, a stranger and an other strange dog approached their kennel. Their body postures included ears forward and up, slowly wagged tails, lips raised, mouth open and teeth exposed. It was Interesting that their vocalizations were only the bark without any combination of other vocalizations. There were significant differences between duration of call(DC), pitch(P), Fl formant, F2 formant, F3 formant and F4 formant(p<0.05) except interval between call(IBC) and intensity(I) among their barks. It was suggested that the differences between same breed dogs'barks could be recognized and the data of spectrogram, especially formant contour, could be used to discriminate the sender characteristics. The body postures could also be used to understand their mind.

This study was performed to investigate the serum creative kinase(CK) activity and CK isoenzyme in Jindo dog. Serum CK activity and CK-isoenzyme were analyzed in 53 Jindo dogs of both sexes. The mean value and normal range of serum CK activity were 24.1 lu/$\ell$ and 7-91 lu/$\ell$, respectively, in 29 female dogs, 24.8 lu/$\ell$ and 8-89 lu/$\ell$ in 24 male dogs. The CK activity of the Puppy showed a tendency to be higher than that of the adult. There was no significance between Puppy and adult. Three isoenzymes (CK-MM, CK- BB, and CK-MB) were recognized in serum. The mean percentages of female and male were as follows: 48.31fp and 48.1% for CK-MM, 35.49) and 33.61fp for CK-BB, and 8.2% and 10.1% for CK-MB in the puppy and 46.21% and 46.1 % for CK-MM, 36.3% and 37.6% for CK-BB and 10.5% and 9.5% for CK-MB in the adult.

An 8-year-old, shih-tzu female dog was referred due to neurological signs including paraparesis and back pain. On the complete blood count, hematologic analysis showed elevated leukocytosis. Serum biochemical analysis revealed elevated serum alkaline phosphatase concentration and C-reactive protein concentration. On the neurologic exam, the dog was suspected to have thoracolumbar myelopathy. On magnetic resonance imaging, there were masses within the spinal canal at L1-3 intervertebral disc space that were located dorsal to spinal cord. It was hyperintense on T1-, T2-weighted magnetic resonance images, Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery, and fat suppression images. The contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images showed no enhancement. The lesions were well circumscribed. The spinal cord was compressed and displaced ventrally by the mass. After removal of the masses via L1-L3 dorsal laminectomy, pyogranulomatous inflammation was confirmed by histopathological examination. Six months after surgery, the dog recovered uneventfully and remained fully ambulatory with no neurological deficits. This case demonstrates the utility of magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of spinal canal pyogranulomatous inflammation.

A 4-month-old, female Maltese dog was referred with continuous heart murmur. Patent ductus arteriosus was diagnosed via radiography and echocardiography. The patient was untreated because of client's refusal. After 13 months, the dog was referred again with seizure and salivation. Laboratory examination revealed increased liver enzymes, hyperammonemia and decreased total cholesterol and total protein. Microhepatica was identified on abdominal radiography. CT angiography showed a shunt vessel that originated from the portal trunk to the prehepatic caudal vena cava and patent ductus arteriosus connecting proximal descending aorta with the main pulmonary artery. No portal vasculature toward liver is observed after shunt vessel. The patient was diagnosed as concurrent patent ductus arteriosus and congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt with suspected portal vein aplasia. In human, cardiac malformations are frequently observed in patients with congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt with portal vein aplasia. This report described concurrent patent ductus arteriosus and congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt with suspected portal vein aplasia in a dog.

A 10-month-old, intact female Shih-tzu dog with a pelvic limb ataxic gait, and urinary and fecal incontinence since birth, was examined by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The butterfly hemivertebra of the fourth lumbar vertebra, agenesis of the third sacral and coccygeal vertebrae, and spina bifida of the remaining sacral vertebra were observed on the computed tomography images. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed traction of the conus medullaris. The dog was diagnosed with sacrocaudal dysgenesis with presumptive tethered cord syndrome, and concurrent infectious cystitis was found by ultrasonography and urinary analysis. The Shih-tzu recovered from the cystitis, but still has the ataxic gait and urinary and fecal incontinence. This report summarizes the case of a dog with sacrocaudal dysgenesis that was identified by imaging diagnosis.

6살된 암컷 불테리어종 개 (체중 17 kg)가 운동 불내성과 실신증상으로 내원하였다. 진단검사를 통해 특발성 심근확장증에 의한 심방조동과 완전 방실차단 증례로 진단되었다. 환자는 심근증에 대한 일반적인 치료와 dofetilide를 포함한 항부정맥 치료를 통해 11개월간 관리되었다. 하지만 환자는 갑작스런 심장마비로 폐사하였다.
