Two hundred five female teenagers and college students who had purchased fashion goods through internet shopping mall participated in this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression were used. As the results, first, recognition of celebrity advertising models was classified into three factors such as 'trust of product', 'attractiveness of product' and 'leading interest of product' factors. Second, the greater exposure to celebrity models, the greater the good feelings about them, showing respondents' positive consumption behavior. Third, results of multiple regression revealed that behavior of pursuing celebrities' style accounted for 37% of the explained variance WOM behavior. Finally, t-test revealed that female college students were affected more by celebrity style and bought fashion items than female teenagers. However, female teenagers conducted more WOM behavior than college students. Based on these results, on-line fashion marketers would use these data for more their efficient fashion marketing strategies.

  • It is well known that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is related to psychological distress. However, only a few studies have investigated the relationship between IBS and various dimensions of psychological distress. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of IBS and its relationship with anxiety, depression, and stress in young female college students. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-report structured questionnaire with 673 female college students. IBS was diagnosed based on the Rome III criteria. For the evaluation of psychological distress on the IBS, we investigated Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Global Assessment of Recent Stress (GARS). The prevalence of IBS was 27.9%. In the univariate analysis, the anxiety, depression, and stress scores were significantly associated with IBS (P<0.001, P=0.001, and P<0.001, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that anxiety (OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.01~1.15, P=0.032) and stress scores (OR=1.23, 95% CI=1.19~1.27, P<0.001) were independently correlated with the IBS. Among the subtypes of IBS, IBS with predominant constipation was the most common, and the anxiety, depression, and stress scores did not significantly differ between the subtypes. Our results suggest that anxiety and stress are closely related to IBS. Managing psychological distress should be considered in the treatment of IBS in young female college students.

  • 126 male and 95 female Korean college students were examined for Scoliosis by using Moire type body observation apparatus. Scoliotic hump measuring instrument, and spinal cord side curvature condition measuring instrument. The prevalence rate of Scoliosis along with identifying its possible causal factors and characteristics were investigated. The results revealed that 5.56% of male and 8.42% of female students(male to female ratio 1:1.47) were suspected as having Scoliosis. There was a significant correlation between the students who have symptoms of Scoliosis and their physiological measurements(e.g., lower breathing capacity of the lungs). There were also close relationships between the suspected cases and their habits(e.g., poor sitting and sleeping posture). It is concluded that the Scoliosis in Korean college students should not be ignored.

Bone mineral density showed a significant correlation with weight. Bone mineral density showed no significant correlation between sun-screening agent use, and bone health promotion behavior. There was a significant correlation between protection power of sun-screening agents and the protection by clothes. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, we need to develop an intervention program for bone health promotion of female college students.

  • This study examined the differential effects of High-Impact Practices(HIPs) on the career aspiration of STEM college students by gender. Through the theoretical lens of Social Cognitive Career Theory(SCCT), a two-level model analysis was conducted. A sample of 2,101 third- and fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in STEM at 38 universities, which had been collected from the National Survey on College Student Experiences and Learning Outcomes funded by the Korea Research Foundation, was used. This study found that the three HIP domains(learning with peers, faculty support, content relevancy) had different influences depending on gender. These findings suggest that HIPs can benefit the development of female students' career aspiration and have gender-differential effects on students in STEM majors. Based on those findings, this study also deduced implications about the roles of faculty members and higher-education institutions that might foster the retention of women in STEM.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social perception reflected in product advertisement and consumerism toward commodification of sex among college students. Subjects of this study were 1,100 college students in the Daegu metropolitan areas. Social perceptions were assessed by questions such as attitudes toward beauty contests, degree of commodification of sex in product advertisements and buying patterns. Consumerism was assessed by the Korean Featherstone version of consumer culture. Major findings of this study were as follows: a significant difference in the social perception of commodification of sex was found between male and female college students, showing that female students were more negative toward commodification of sex than male students. Higher scores were found for consumerism when subjects had higher perceptions for commodification of sex. Hence, the degree of commodification of sex was positively related to the degree of consumerism. In conclusion, consumerism enforced commodification of sex among college students, resulting negative effects on the sex culture in general.
