Also, aim that identifies variables which have influences on adolescents' depression. The subjects were 2279 middle and high school students(male 1150, female 1129) who live in Seoul and Kyonggi. All respondents answered by self-report questionnaire. The scales of emotion regulation style consist of three parts: support-seeking, avoidance/distraction, and active problem-solving. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, t-tset and stepwise multiple regression. The major findings were as follows. First, older male and female adolescents perceived less peer attachment than younger adolescents. Specially female adolescents showed more differences between older adolescents and younger adolescents. Second, male adolescents showed more avoidance/distraction style and active problem-solving style but less support-seeking style than female adolescents. • Background: This study was planned to investigate the relationship between musculoskeletal problems, depression, and quality of life in students preparing for university entrance exams. Methods: A total of 180 students were included in the study, 104 were female (57.77%), and 76 were male (42.22%). Students were reached through the cram schools ("dershane") in Denizli. Musculoskeletal system problems, depression status, and quality of life were determined with the Musculoskeletal-Postural Discomfort Scale (MDS), Boratav Depression Screen Scale (Bordepta), and Short Form-36 (SF-36), respectively. Demographic data, daily study, and sleep duration were also recorded. Results: Students have moderate musculoskeletal discomfort. Musculoskeletal disorders and depressive symptoms are more observed in female students than male students (P = 0.000). The SF-36 results were significantly negatively correlated with the MDS and Bordepta scores. A significant positive correlation was found between musculoskeletal disorders and depression status (r = 0.351, P = 0.000). Sleep duration was negatively correlated with the MDS and Bordepta (r = -0.209, P = 0.005; r = -0.148, P = 0.047, respectively) and positively correlated with the SF-36 role limitation/emotional and social functioning subscales (r = 0.225, P = 0.002 and r = 0.191, P = 0.010 respectively). Conclusions: Musculoskeletal problems and depression status negatively affects general health status especially in female students who are preparing for university entrance examinations. Students should be informed about musculoskeletal problems by healthcare professionals and the study room, tables, and chairs should be arranged ergonomically. Further studies might be determined that why musculoskeletal disorders and depression status are more widely among female students.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic musculoskeletal pain and depression on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) according to gender in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: The subjects of this study were 209 elderly individuals who were receiving visiting nursing services from a public health center located in Gangwon-do. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from March to April, 2008. SPSS/WIN 13.0 was used for data analysis. Results: Depression and HRQoL showed a significant difference between male and female subjects. There was a negative correlation between chronic musculoskeletal pain, depression, and HRQoL. In the male elderly, depression was the most significant predictor of HRQoL, while in the female elderly, chronic musculoskeletal pain was the most significant predictor of HRQoL. Conclusion: The study showed that chronic musculoskeletal pain was the variable with the highest explanatory power for HRQoL in the female elderly. Therefore, chronic musculoskeletal pain needs to be assessed and managed first in nursing interventions to improve HRQoL of the female elderly.

  • Purpose: Alcohol use in South Korean women, particularly college students, is increasing. Women are more vulnerable than men to alcohol use, which puts them at greater risk of physical and psychosocial problems. Some studies have reported that on failing to find meaning in life, many South Korean college students experience depression, subsequently using alcohol as a coping mechanism. This study aimed to develop a logotherapeutic program and identify its effects on meaning in life, depression, and problem drinking among female college students. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental trial. The participants were female college students who scored over 8 in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Twenty-four students were assigned to the experimental group and twenty-three to the control group. Three scales were used in this study: the Purpose in Life test, Beck Depression Inventory, and AUDIT. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test in SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: After the conclusion of the logotherapeutic program, the level of meaning in life and depression were more greatly improved in the experimental group than the control group. Conclusion: The logotherapeutic program is an effective method to help female college students find meaning in life and reduce depression in this population.

  • In this study, in an attempt to prevent depression and improve their quality of life, we investigated the relationship between the occurrence rate of depression among high school students. We used the data from the 2011-2 online census on youth health behavior conducted by the Ministry of Disease Control. There were 37,261 male students along with 36,797 female students for a total of 74,058 subjects. The rate of depression occurrence was 29.2% for male students and 39.6% for female students indicating that female students are having more depression than male students. As a result of the study, it was discovered that the male subjects felt 6.04 times more depression and the female subjects felt 6.98 times more depression as they encountered more stress. The males had 1.42 times more depression and the females had 1.60 times more depression when they had the experience of smoking. The male subjects had 1.37 times more depression and the female subjects had 1.41 times more depression when they had the experience of drinking. The males who joined in on physical activities for more than four days and those who joined in them for one to three days had 1.34 times and 1.16 times more depression respectively. The females who had physical activities for more than four days and those who had them for one to three days had 1.42 times and 1.28 times more depression respectively. As a result this study showed that there are correlations between variables relating to healthy behavior and the prevalence of depression.

  • This study investigated the effects of depression, anxiety, and impulsiveness on suicidal thoughts among adolescents with the goal of better understanding the psychological needs of adolescents and to provide them with more effective counseling and guidance. Participants for this study included 340 high school students in their first and second year living in large urban centers. Respondents answered a questionnaire that documented their experiences related to depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts. Data analysis was performed using the means, standard deviations, correlation analysis, and multiple regression using the IBM SPSS 19.0 statistics program. The results were as follows. There was no statistically significant difference in anxiety and impulsiveness based on gender. However, female respondents demonstrated a higher rate of suicidal thoughts than male respondents. Second, in both sexes, comparative analysis between depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, and suicidal thoughts revealed that respondents with higher levels of depression and anxiety demonstrated elevated levels of suicidal thoughts. Impulsiveness demonstrated a correlation with suicidal thoughts only for female participants. Third, while depression and anxiety affected suicidal thoughts in both male and female respondents, impulsiveness did not affect suicidal thoughts, with depression having the strongest effect.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify psychosocial factors that might be predictive of sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain in women with gynecologic cancer. Methods: Two hundred and twelve women with cervical, ovarian, or endometrial cancer completed questionnaires on the Female Sexual Function Index including sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain, and data on their psychosocial factors including body image, sexual attitude, sexual information, depression, and marital intimacy. Stepwise multivariable regression analysis was performed to explore psychosocial predictors of women’s sexual function domains. Results: Predictors were identified as sexual attitude, depression, sexual information, and body image for sexual desire; sexual information, depression, and sexual attitude for sexual arousal; sexual information, marital intimacy, and depression for lubrication; sexual information, marital intimacy, depression, and body image for orgasm; marital intimacy, sexual information, sexual attitude, and depression for satisfaction; sexual information, depression, and marital intimacy for pain. Conclusion: The results indicate that women’s sexual function needs to be approached to domains of female sexual function psychosocially as well as to general sexual function. These factors should be considered in future interventions to positively promote sexual function in women with gynecologic cancer.
