지방 바이오마커를 활용한 북서태평양에서 요각류(Euchaeta sp. and Pleuromamma spp.)의 서식 위도별 영양상태 및 먹이원 연구 (Latitudinal Variation of Nutritional Condition and Diet for Copepod Species, Euchaeta sp. and Pleuromamma spp., from the Northwest Pacific Ocean Using Lipid Biomarkers)

  • In order to ascertain latitudinal variation of lipid contents and compositions in copepods, we collected warm water copepod species (Euchaeta sp. and Pleuromamma spp.) from four different regions from low (sub-tropical) to mid (temperate) latitudes in the Northwest Pacific Ocean. Total lipid contents of Pleuromamma spp. were about 11 $ug{\cdot}ind^{-1}$ with little latitudinal variation, whereas Euchaeta sp. showed slightly higher lipid content (20 $ug{\cdot}ind^{-1}$) than Pleuromamma spp. with latitudinal gradient (low at subtropic and high at temperate). Wax esters, known as the major storage lipid classes, were found to be the dominant lipid classes (accounting for more than 35% of total lipids) in Euchaeta sp., whereas in Pleuromamma spp., phospholipids, known as cellular membrane components, were the dominant lipid classes. However, the exception was specimens from warm pool region exhibiting dominance in storage of lipids as a form of triacylglycerols. Among fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially docosahexaenoic acid (DHA : 22:6(n-3)) (about 35% of total fatty acids), were most abundant in Euchaeta sp., while saturated fatty acids (SAFA), specially hexadecanoic acid (16:0) (about 30% of total fatty acids), were most abundant in Pleuromamma spp.. Among the neutral fraction of lipids, phytol, originated from the side chain of chlorophyll, was found in all samples which generally indicate active copepods feeding on algae. While only trace amounts of short-chain fatty alcohols were found in Pleuromamma spp., significant amounts of fatty alcohols were found in Euchaeta sp.. Particularly, significant amounts of long chain monounsaturated fatty alcohols (20:1 and 22:1), generally found in cold water species, were found in Euchaeta sp. from low latitudes. The latitudinal variation of trophic lipid markers in these copepods could be significantly related with in-situ food availability and species-specific diet preference. The result of this study suggests that the lipid contents and compositions in copepods may not only indicate their nutritional condition and feeding ecology but also provide insight into species-specific living strategies under different environmental conditions (i.e. water temperature, food availability).

어성초 분말을 급여한 돼지 등심의 냉장저장 중 품질특성의 변화 (Feeding Effects of Houttuynia cordata Thunb Powder on the Quality Property of Pork Loin at Chilled Storage)

  • 어성초 분말을 사료에 0%, 5% 및 10% 첨가하여 12주간 사육한 돼지 등심의 냉장저장 중 품질특성을 분석하였다. 어성초의 일반성분은 조섬유가 $56.8{\pm}2.6%$로 가장 높은 함량이었으며 불포화지방산인 oleic acid(C18:1)의 비율이 29.6%로 가장 높았다. 각 실험군의 관능평가 결과 어성초 분말 5% 첨가군이 연도와 누린내에서 기호도가 높게 평가되었으며 전체적인 선호도도 가장 우수하였다. 돈육 등심을 23일간 냉장 보관하면서 이화학적인 성분을 분석한 결과, 수분함량은 10% 어성초 분말 첨가 급이군에서 다소 높았으며 조지방 함량은 대조군에 비해 어성초 분말 첨가 급이군에서 유의적으로 낮은 함량이었다. pH는 실험군간 및 저장기간의 경과에 따른 유의적인 차이가 없었으며 육색 중 L값과 a값은 저장기간의 경과와 더불어 증가하는 경향이었고 b값은 저장 초기에 증가하였다가 이후에는 그 변화가 미미하였다. 전단가는 저장 2일에서 9일 사이에 가장 큰 폭으로 감소하였으며 그 이후에는 급격한 연도의 저하는 없었다.

육성기 및 비육기에 급여한 감귤 부산물이 제주도 개량 흑돼지 고기의 품질특성에 미치는 영향 (Feeding Effect of Citrus Byproduct on the Quality of Cross-bred Black Pig in Jeju Island)

  • 본 연구는 제주도에서 폐기되고 있는 밀감 부산물을 돼지에게 급여하여 페기물의 이용과 기능성 돈육의 생산을 위하여 실시하였다. 돼지는 밀감 부산물을 급여하지 않은 등심육(TB-0) 및 육성기에 6% 급여한 후 비육기에 10% 급여한 등심육(TB-1)을 대상으로 여러 가지 영양성분 분석과 관능검사를 실시한 결과 수분, 조단백질, 조지방, 조회분 및 열량은 시료들 사이에 차이가 없었다. 콜레스테롤 함량은 TB-1(41.5 mg/100g)이 TB-0)48.9 mg/100 g)보다 유의하게 낮았다. 무기질 중에서 Mg은 TB-0(192 ppm)가 TB-1(161 ppm)보다 유의하게 높았으며, 비타민 $B_1$$B_2$는 시료들 사이에서 차이가 없었다. 총아미노산 함량은 TB-0 및 TB-1이 각각 19.51 및 18.65%이고, 총유리아미노산 함량은 각각 469.44 및 479.45 mg/100 g으로 처리구간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 포화지방산은 palmitic acid가 가장 많았고, 불포화지방산은 oleic acid가 가장 많았다. 생육과 가열육의 맛, 조직감, 다즙성 및 전체적인 기호성은 밀감 부산물 급여에 의한 영향은 없었으며, 풍미는 TB-1이 TB-0보다 유의하게 높았다.

  • This study is to enforce to ready basic data of effective school dental health education for dental caries prevention, relation knowledge of class, feeding practice and snack intake preference actual conditions, food and caries executed investigation by own recording way using questionnaire consisted of dental health education awareness to some business world man high school locating in Kyonggi Province. Analyzes result that total 487 people respond in SPSS WIN 13.0 programs and got following sequence The obtain result were as follows 1. Results about habit of breakfast was the most by 36.1% a student who have breakfast every day, and a student who hardly eat dominated 32.9%. Second-year student hardly had breakfast (p<.01). 2. A student who answer that snack kind that often eat was cookies and snack kind was the most by 37.2%, and a student who answer that symbol drink was a carbonated drink was the most by 50.9%. 3. Relation knowledge degree appeared grand mean among 18 points perfect score by 12.36 with food and caries. Third-year student knowledge degree was the highest, and second-year student was the lowest knowledge degree by class (p<.01). 4. Existence and nonexistence of experience of dental health education appeared a student who experience that take dental health education does not exist by 57.1%. There was experience that take dental health education as class is low by class, and as class is high, experience did not exists (p<.05). 5. Time that take dental health education for the first time was the most by 56.7% a student who respond 'Babyhood', grade in school is low by class 'Babyhood', and is high by class responded 'Middle school'(p<.05). 6. Awareness of dental health education necessity 'may educate dental health and does not' a student 56.3%, half was looked attitude which students who exceed are insincere about dental health education necessity. 7. When educate dental health, contents was the most by 44.6% 'brushing and mouth article directions' to be educated importantly, and was expose by caries 31.2%, gum disease 10.1%, scaling 9.0%, prosthetic dentistry and implant 5.1% period of ten days, third-year student 50.8% said that 'brushing and mouth article directions' is important (p<.05). Dental health education is practiced during life, and is a teaching that should be remembered. Need to develop epoch-making and interesting education program that is correct in subject to do as quickly as possible, and should be achieved major road of dental hygienist. Dental hygienist will have to settle as quickly as possible as expert of prevention that is natural business and education and help in dental health education development under effort between country and dental association effective.

갈색여치(Paratlanticus ussuriensis) 기주식물의 이화학적 특성변화와 먹이선호 구명 (The Physio-chemical Variation of the Host Plants and Feed Preference of the Ussur Brown Katydid, Paratlanticus ussuriensis (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae))

  • In 2006 and 2007, there was a big outbreak of the Ussur Brown Katydid, Paratlanticus ussurriensis in the central part of Korea attacking some orchard trees. Until 2000, the katydid had not been regarded as an agricultural pest because they were distributed widely in Korea with low population density and their habitats were confined mainly to hillsides of forested areas. The fact that katydid attacked orchard trees with a higher population density seemed to be related to a change in feeding environment. And the shift of their habitats from oak woodlands to commercial orchards was thought to be related to the nutritional contents of their feed. In an attempt to understand these relationships, we conducted an ecological study of the affected areas. When the katydids changed their habitats in early May of 2008 and 2009, they shifted their host plants from oak trees to peach trees. The habitat shift was closely related to the nitrogen (N) content of the host plant leaves. When katydid moved to the hillside adjacent to orchard farm, N content of oak tree leaves decreased dramatically from 5.3% to 2.2%. At that time N content of peach tree leaves were higher than the 2.2% of oak leaves, showing 3.5~5.0%. This range of N content of peach tree leaves has been consistent until late June. And feed preference analysis carried out in the laboratory showed that katydid prefered peach tree leaves to peach fruit to oak tree leaves.

  • Caenorhabditis elegans is a free living soil nematode and thus in its natural habitat, C. elegans encounters many different species of soil bacteria. Although some soil bacteria may be excellent sources of nutrition for the worm, others may be pathogenic. Thus, we undertook a study to understand how C. elegans can identify their preferred food using a simple behavioral assay. We found that there are various species of soil bacteria that C. elegans prefers in comparison to the standard laboratory E. coli strain OP50. In particular, two bacterial strains, Bacillus mycoides and Bacillus soli, were preferred strains. Interestingly, the sole feeding of these bacteria to wild type animals results in extended lifespan through the activation of the autophagic process. Further studies will be required to understand the precise mechanism controlling the behavior of identification and selection of food in C. elegans.

Relative Palatability to Sheep of Some Browse Species, their In sacco Degradability and In vitro Gas Production Characteristics

  • A study was conducted to estimate the nutritive value of some selected acacia forages using palatability index, in sacco degradability and in vitro gas production characteristics. Ten wethers (mean wt. $18{\pm}3.5kg$) were offered Acacia tortilis, Acacia nilotica, Acacia mellifera, Acacia brevispica, Acacia Senegal and Leucaena leucocephala (control) using a cafeteria system to determine the species preference by the animals. The acacia species were rich in nitrogen and showed variable palatability pattern. Significant (p<0.05) differences in relative palatability index (RPI) were detected among the species with the following ranking: brevispica > leucaena > mellifera > tortilis > Senegal > nilotica. Acacia nilotica appeared to be of low relative palatability with RPI of 24% and this was attributed to relatively high phenolic concentrations. The DM potential degradability (B) and rate of degradation (c) of the species were significantly (p<0.05) different, ranging from 40.1 to 59.1% and 0.0285 to 0.0794/h respectively. Acacia species had moderate levels of rumen undegradable protein, much higher than that in leucaena. In vitro gas production results indicated the effect of polyphenolic compounds on the fermentation rate, with lower gas production recorded from A. nilotica and tortilis. Based on RPI, A. brevispica and mellifera were superior to the rest and comparable to L. leucocephala. Long-term feeding trials are required with the superior species when used as protein supplements to poor quality diets.

수도 매끄러운엽 품종과 껄끄러운엽 품종에 있어서의 벼멸구 저항성, 수량성 및 제현비율의 비교 (Influence of Glabrousness on the Insect Resistance and Some Agronomic Characters in Rice Plant)

  • 수도에 있어서 원활엽형질의 이용성을 검토하기 위하여 껄끄러운 잎의 품종과 매끄러운 잎의 품종에서 벼멸구저항성이 있는 것, 없는 것을 공시하여 원활엽형질이 벼멸구의 식이선호성과 우해율에 미치는 영향을 비교하고, 매끄러운 잎을 가친 품종과 껄끄러운 잎을 가진 품종의 수량 및 제현비율을 비교하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 벼멸구의 식이선호성, 우해율 및 항충성은 찰과메에 껄끄러운 형질 및 찰과메에 따라 차가 나타나지 않았다. 2. 지엽중의 SiO_2/N 비율과 수량은 여리 N시용수준에 있어서 잎의 매끄러운 형질과 절끄러운 형질에 따라 차가 나타나지 않았다. 3. 매끄러운 잎을 가진 계통은 껄끄러운 잎을 가진 계통보다 우해율이 높았는데 메에 있어서만 유의하였다. 4. 매끄러운 잎을 가진 품종의 효용성을 검토하였다.

펫푸드 테린의 가공방법에 따른 반려견의 선호도 조사 (Canine Preferences for Pet Food Terrine Based on the Processing Method)

  • This study aimed to evaluate the differences in canine preferences for pet food terrine according to the processing method. As companion dogs, three male Spitz canines (average age 12 years, average weight 7 kg) and three male Spitz mix canines (average age 12 years, average weight 5 kg) were used in Experiment 1, whereas five male (average age 10 years, average weight 9 kg) and five female Shetland Sheepdogs (Sheltie, average age 10 years, average weight 8 kg) were used in Experiment 2, to evaluate their preferences and intake types. In both experiments, all dog categories mostly preferred 'meat' when it came to their first choice of food consumed, followed by 'vegetables', 'mixed eating', and 'vegetable leftover' last. This confirms means that canines are carnivores, and over time, choosing 'vegetables' or 'vegetable leftovers' as a secondary or alternate food source can be considered a natural process. When provided various terrines, canines in both experiments first ingested 'cooked' rather than 'freeze-dried' duck, chicken, beef, and pork terrines when selecting food at the start of feeding. For both experiments, most of the intake types using duck, chicken, beef, and pork terrine showed a preference for 'after consuming cooked terrine first and then intake freeze-dried' item. In conclusion, the reason for preferring cooked terrine can be attributed to the difference in the preparation cooking method of freeze-dried cooked terrine.

끝동매미충에 대한 벼의 품종저항성에 관한 연구(1) (Studies on the Varietal Resistance of Rice to the Green Rice Leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticeps UHLER)

  • 끝동매미충에 대한 국내장여품종, 계통 및 IRRI선발품종의 저항성정도, 그들 품종에 대한 끝동매미충의 산난선호성, 식이선호성, Antibiosis 및 몇개 지역의 끝동 매미충에 대한 벼의 저항성차이 유무를 알기 위해 시험을 실시한바 아래와 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 국내장여품종은 모다 감수성(S) 반응을 보였고 IR 667에서 얻어진 품종과 계통은 중간성(M) 반응을 보였다. 2. IRRI 선발품종중 Bir-tsan-3, MTU-15, DK-1, DV-139, H105, ASD-7, MGL-2, PTB-18, Muthumanikam 및 Vellanlangalayan은 저항성 반응을 보였고 IR20과 Mudgo는 중도저항성을 보였으며 IR8, IR22, Pankari-203, Su-Yai-20 및 T(N)1은 감수성 반응을 나타내었다 3. Nephotettix cincticeps와 N. impicticeps간에 현저히 다른 반응을 나타낸 품종은 H105, IR8, Mudgo, Pankari-203 및 Su-Yai-20이었다. 4. 산난선호성은 품종에 따라 현저한 차이가 있었는데 비교적 많은 산난수를 보인 품종은 Suweon 215, Shirogane, Su-Yai-20 및 Milsung 등이었고 비교적 적은 품종은 Palkweng, Kimmaze, Mudgo 및 Akibare 등이었다. 5. 식이선호성도 품종에 따라 현저한 차이가 있었는데 비교적 부착충수가 많은 품종은 Shirogane, $Shin{\#}2$, Paltal 및 Nongbaek등이었고 비교적 적은 부착충수를 보인 품종은 Su-Yai-20, TKM-6, Mudgo 및 Murunga 137 등이었다. 6. 유묘의 저항성과 산난선호성, 식이선호성들 간에 유의한 상관은 없었으나 유묘의 저항성과 식이선호성은 비교적 깊은 관계가 있는 것 같았다. 7. 공시품종에 대한 부화약충의 생존충율에 있어서 PTB-18은 3일만에, Muthumanikam은 7일만에, Vellanlangalayan과 H105는 8일만에, 100의 사충률을 보였으며 그 외에도 저항성품종에서 낮은 생존충률을 보였다. 8. 수원, 이리, 밀양 및 진주 4개 지역의 끝동매미충에 대한 벼의 반응에 차이가 없어 끝동매미충의 생태형은 찾아 볼 수 없었다.
