  • In order to discuss the availability of aerostatic guideways driven by the coreless linear motor to ultra precision machine tools, a prototype of guideway is designed and tested in this research. A coreless linear DC motor with the continuous force of 156N and a laser scale with the resolution of $0.01\mu\textrm{m}$ are used as the feeding system. The experiments are performed on the static stiffness, motion accuracy, positioning accuracy, microstep response and variation of velocity. The guideway also has $0.21\mu\textrm{m}$ of positioning error and $0.09\mu\textrm{m}$ of repeatability, and it shows the stable response against the $0.01\mu\textrm{m}$ resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 0.6%. From these results, it is confirmed that the aerostatic guideway driven by the coreless linear motion is very useful for the ultra precision machine tools.

  • In this study, a fmite element model was developed for analysis of feeding a structure in open loop control The finite element analysis (FEA) can simulate dynamic behavior of the structure of a machine tool rapidly traveling with a screw feeding driving system. The feeding mechanism was implemented with screw element of the FEA tool used in this study. The procedure was developed for the dynamic transient FEA. First, motion parameters such as jerk and velocity were introduced for the structure to be fed in open loop control When its traveling distance was determined, set-points for the distance were generated based on the motion parameters. The set-points were applied to the FE model constructed for the traveling structure. The FEA was executed and evaluated. In this study, the FEA procedure was applied to the column of a machine tool and the dynamic behavior of the column was evaluated. The FEA helps in evaluation of the motion characteristics of a structure. The convergence time of the structure vibration posterior to feeding termination can be estimated and the stiffness of the flexible structure is also evaluated against jerk, and acceleration. It provides the feeding force which is helpful in selection of the feeding motor.

  • This study is related with the development of CNC spinning machine and the axisymmetric conventional spinning such as drum type and conical type steel shells. The CNC spinning machine is constructed with heavy duty frame and the hydraulic servo system is applied in order to give the exactness of motion control. The experiment has been carried out considering feeding velocity, mandrel shape, and the corner radius of mandrel and forming rollers. As a result of experiment, the limiting spinning ratio and thickness strain distribution are obtained and it can be seen that the spinnability is dominant to the feeding velocity and corner radius of forming roller. This research can contribute to the development of axisymmetric mechanical part which is applicable to automotive and aerospace industry.

  • We propose an off-line methodology for detecting a faulty backup roll that generates eccentricity components, under the condition that the feeding velocity, equivalently the angular velocity of roll, is not constant. From a newly devised speed angle conversion algorithm, we transform all process data into those of a virtual process under a constant feeding speed. This indirectly way, we can apply a spectral analysis to the original process. In addition, we develop an online detection method of roll eccentricity based on newly designed PLG sensor. This PLG sensor is robust because of applying magnetic proximity sensnors and non-contact measurement method.

A coreless linear DC motor with the continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with the resulution of 10 nm are used as the feeding system. The guideway has the infinite axial stiffness within 50 N of applied load, and has 0.08 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec of angular motion error. It also has 0.21 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of positioning error and 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of repeatability, and it shows the stable response against the 10 nm resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 5%. • The purpose of this study was to determine how an ornamental fish, such as the fighting fish, Betta splendens would respond to the use of freshwater live-prey, such as rotifers Brachionus calyciflorus and water fleas Moina macrocopa. Ingested quantity, digestive velocity and somatic growth were compared between larvae fed a freshwater rotifer and those fed boiled yolk. Food efficiency and somatic growth were compared between larvae that were fed freshwater water fleas and those fed a micro-diet developed for flounder ($250{\mu}m$, I-hwa Ltd.). The number of rotifers ingested by larvae reached a maximum of 191 per day. However, based on the number ingested per hour and the digestive velocity of consumed rotifers, the maximum ingestible and digestible number of rotifers was calculated to be 272 per day. A maximum of 67 individuals (mean, 49.8 individuals) could be completely digested within the 1-h period from 90 to 180 min after feeding. Somatic growth was enhanced in larvae that were fed rotifers compared to those fed boiled yolk. Larvae exhibited greater growth at rotifer densities of 30 and 40 per mL than at lower densities. Among the water-flea (M. macrocopa and Bosmina sp.) and micro-particle diets, feeding with M. macrocopa resulted in the greatest somatic growth of larvae during the water-flea feeding stage.

  • Up to now, various continuous-processing systems are used in many industrial applications such as textile machines, paper-making machines, printing machines, and so on. In these applications, the tension forced on the products in the control volume can be changed according to the velocity difference between the feeding roll and the delivery roll. Specially, the tension variation generated by the velocity difference, or the inertial effect can decreases the quality of the products in the textile process. In this paper, the tension control problem in a circular knitting machine system is treated to cope with these problems. Firstly, the tension relationship in the winding mechanism of general continuous-processing systems is modeled. Next, to effectively drive the feeding and delivery rolls in the circular knitting machine system, a new tension control method is presented by considering the inertia compensation and the velocity difference between the feeding roll and the delivery roll. Through the experimental works, it is shown that the proposed tension control method can be used to improve the performance of tension control in the control volume of the given circular knitting machine system.

  • The state of the art of the 2-stage swirl calciner is to make 2-stage counter gas flow in a calciner with cooler hot air. Gas flow in the calciner increases retention time of raw mix particles. Simple structure of the 2-stage swirl calciner operated optimally the rotary cement kiln. In this study, in order to decide the entrance type of the cooler air of the optimal calciner model, an entrance cooler air velocity, the input points of raw mix were analyzed in many aspects with cold model experiment and computational fluidized dynamic simulation. It was found that the entrance type of cooler air fully splite 2-stage for the optimal condition of the cold model calciner. The operation conditions were that the input feeding, the cooler air velocity and the air velocity of throat were 0.33kg/$\textrm m$3$, 15m/s and 20m/s respectively. The performance of 150 t/d the pilot plant connected with the kiln rising duct was that volume capacity of the calciner is over 430 kg/$\textrm m$3$-h, decarbonation rate of raw mix apparently 90%, heat consumption 950 kcal/kg-cli and retention time of raw mix 2.4 sec. Its the best operating condition is cooler air velocity 18m/s, the gas velocity of throat 25m/s, feeding rate of raw mix 10t/h. The operating experience of the pilot plant confirmed the success of scale up for over 3000 t-cli/d.
