A Study on the Efficiency Improvement of Linear Power Amplifier for Mobile Communication Repeater Applications (이동 통신 중계기용 선형 전력 증폭기 효율 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In fabricated linear power amplifier(LPA), the third-order inter-modulation distortion(IMD) for main amplifier alone is 10.61dBc, and the IMD for LPA with predistorter and feedforward loop combined is 32.50dBc. Therefore, the IMD characteristic results an improvement of approximately 22dB. The main amplifier efficiency with single tone input is close to 30%, and the efficiency of the overall LPA with predistorter is 27.4% and predicted feedforward loop efficiency without predistorter is about 20%. Therefore, LPA with predistorter and feedforward loop combined is improved by 7.4%.

  • This paper reports a design of feedforward linear power amplifier using pilot tone for IMT-2000 band repeaters accepting multi-carrier. As this time pilot tone is applied to the circuit differently from the existing method. Only one pilot tone is used in both 1-st loop(IMD abstraction loop) and 2-nd loop(IMD cancellation loop) to cancell IMD signals automatically according to variation of frequency or power level of input signals. As an experiment, in range of 2110 MHz - 2170 MHz at LPA output power of $20 W_{avg}$, IMD characteristics of over 20 dB was improved maintaining below -60 dBc considering respective 20 MHz. Therefore the supposed feedforward linear power amplifier can be used for linear power amplifier in IMT-2000 band repeaters.

  • This paper presents a feedforward linear power amplifier (LPA) using error feedback technique to achieve low intermodulation distortions(IMD) of power amplifiers for base stations. Especially, the proposed linear power amplifier is applied to feedforward technique combined with error feedback technique, which has no loss of amplifier gain unlike typical feedback technique. The proposed LPA is designed by using HP ADS ver. 1.3, fabricated. When two-tone signals at 1850 MHz and 1851.25 MHz with -7 dBm/tone from synthesizers are injected into the main power amplifier with gain of 28 dB and P1dB of 1W, the proposed LPA could reduce more than 35 dB.

  • In this paper, an 1-Watt amplifier for IMT-2000 was designed and fabricated using feedfarward method which has the highest linearity and wide bandwidth. Since feedforward is sensitive to surroundings for example heat, input power level, time and so on, adaptive controller using micro controller is adopted. We fabricated a HPA with 35 dB gain, 40 dBm of 1-dB compression point, and utilized variable attenuator and variable phase shifter using reflection type to cancel loop signal. From the measured results, the fo11owing facts were obtained, in signal loop, main carrier over 35 dB was suppressed and error signal over 30 dB is cancelled in error loop, IMD characteristics above 60 dBc were obtained.

  • This paper proposes the feedforward compensation method of output voltage with 3phase AC/DC PWM converter on DC distribution system for improved response. AC/DC PWM converter on DC distribution is required power supply of high quality because of renewable energy sources and load links. In general, Feedforward compensation method of 3phase AC/DC PWM converter receives the sensor input to the output current, load power. Resulting, error of the sensing values and communication cause time delay. Therefore, Feedforward compensation method through only the output voltage is proposed in this paper. The feedforward compensation method through only the output voltage can be applied to the two-level AC/DC PWM converters, as well as multi-level converter or inverter.

  • In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in the BLDC motor as a research subject. In this paper we inspect sources of the torque ripple, which is one of the elements causing performance depreciation of BLDC motors. Based on the inspected sources of the torque ripple, feedforward compensation methods are proposed to reduce the size of torque ripple. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified with experiments.

  • In this paper, predistorter for PCS has been designed and fabricated. In predistorter system IMD signal generator was very important element. In this LPA IMD signal generator was fabricated using main signal cancellation and error signal cancellation of feedforward method and two amplifier that had same IMD characteristics. This LPA showed IMD characteristics of 52㏈c operation in 48㏈m(60W) and made 12㏈ IMD characteristic improvement when it was excited by two tone. In this LPA, to make more IMD characteristic improvement the IMD characteristic resemblance between main amplifier and predistortion amplifier is very important.

  • This paper proposed a speed control system for induction motors robust to variations in torque and parameters by feedforward compensating the current portion of load torque, adding a load torque observer to the conventional PI controller in the indirect vector controlled induction motor system. Computer simulations and exeperimental works using the proposed control confirm that the transient response for the variation of the reference speed and load torque becomes improved, compared with the conventional PI controled method.

  • In this paper, a novel speed control strategy using an acceleration feedforward compensation by the estimation of the system inertia is proposed. With the proposed method, the enhanced speed control performance can be achieved and the speed response against the disturbance torque can be improved for the vector-controller induction motor drive systems in which the bandwidth of the speed controller cannot be made large enough. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed strategy.
