This study explored the effect of increased feed intake during the late gestation on the reproductive performance of sows, and fecal score in sows and piglets. A total of 21 crossbred [Landrace × Yorkshire] multiparous sows were randomly distributed into three treatments with seven replicates per treatment. Treatments: CON, 2.4 kg/day; TRT1, 3.2 kg/day; TRT2 , 3.6 kg/day. Body weight and body condition score of sow in different stages were not altered (p > 0.05) due to extra feed in late gestation. A linearly higher (p < 0.05) difference in backfat thickness during farrowing was found in this study. Average daily feed intake was increased (p < 0.05) linearly with extra feed in this experiment. The weaning body weight of piglets was increased (p < 0.05) with extra feed in the sow. The fecal score of sows and their piglets was similar (p > 0.05) in different levels of feed intake. In conclusion, extra feed to gestation sow showed a beneficial effect on improving the weaning piglet's body weight. Although there is a small improvement in the body weight of weaning pigs of sow fed 3.6 kg feed/day in the late gestation period, it is unlikely to be profitable enough to justify the additional waste of feed.
The concentration of silica is required to meet a certain level because silica affects fuel and materials integrity by forming a zeolite layer on fuel cladding surfaces. When the established Feed and Bleed method is employed, nuclear waste increase and the corresponding amount of boric acid is constantly consumed. This study concentrates on minimizing the amount of nuclear waste and consumption of boric acid. Using five different membranes, operating conditions such as temperatur, feed water flow rate, boric acid recovery and silica removal rate were examined. A silica-selective removal system was designed based on the above optimization procedures. Three-stage system was designed with two characteristically different membranes so that it could correspond with the different situation easily. Compared to the pevious results of the Feed and Bleed method, the current method showed that the amount of nuclear waste was reduced to 7%, and the consumption of boric acid to 15.7%.

For the conversion of food waste into a good recycling material such as animal feed without antibiotics, thirteen lactic acid bacteria, which can be used as good probiotics for animal feed, were isolated from the intestine and feces in pigs. All isolates showed strong tolerance to high salt (4% of NaCl), acid(pH4.0), and bile juice (0.8% of oxgall). The growth rate was best at $37^{\circ}C$ in all strains. Among the isolates, Lactobacillus plantarum CJY-22, L. brevis CJY-42, L. arizonensis CJY-3, and Pediococcus sp. CJY-41 showed higher and broader spectrum of antimicrobial activities against six different pathogens such as Salmonella, typhimurium. L. plantarum CJY-22 has also grown well at $25^{\circ}C$, making this strain as an appropriate candidate for the fermentation of food waste at room temperature, thus conducting the fermentation process cost-effectively.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of pelleted food waste on performance and meat quality of broiler ducks. One hundred-forty four broiler ducks were divided into 4 groups with 3 replicates per treatment for 5 weeks. Dietary levels of food waste 0%, 25%, 50% and 75% were included in experimental diets Daily weight gain was significantly increased by addition of food waste 25% and .50%, whereas decreased(P<0.05) by addition of 75% food waste. Feed intake were not affected by the pelleted food waste supplementations. Feed efficiency was improved(P<0.05) by the addition 25% food waste, however, there was depressed(P<0.05) by the addition of 75% food waste. Carcass weight was significantly decreased(P<0.05) by the addition 75% food waste. Moisture composition of breast meat were not significantly different by 25% and 50% food waste, however, there was significantly increased by 75% food waste. As the food waste level was increased, lipid and protein composition in beast meat was significantly decreased As the food waste level was increased. pH of beast meat was increased, whereas lightness and redness of meat color were decreased. Cholesterol content was significantly decreased(P<0.05) by addition of food waste. Odor and appearance of sensory evaluation was depressed by addition of food waste, whereas taste of sensory evaluation was improved by addition of food waste. There was no pathological findings from liver, spleen and kidney in slaughtered ducks. The results of this study suggests that pelleted food waste 25% and 50% improved broiler ducks performance and meat quality in broiler ducks.

Food waste in school foodservices is an important factors in managing expense and in evaluating the acceptance of served meals. This study was undertaken to investigate the management of food waste and the opinion of dietitians in one hundred fourty nine elementary school foodservices, in Pusan, Korea. When serving places were compared, the classroom generated more leftover and plate waste than those of lunchroom(p<0.05). In rank for generating raw waste, the residue from vegetables was the highest in first order. Fruit, eggs, fish, and shell fish also left the most raw waste, respectively, in descending order. The residue that generated the most plate waste in the first and the second order was from soup and pot stew, and vegatables side dishes, respectively. The treatment process of food waste which was the most common in school foodservices was the fertilization by processing machine in order to make recyclable fertilizer(52.1%). Food waste at 30.8% of foodservices was processed for live stock feed. At 92.3% of investigated foodservices, food waste water was drained through a round net basket. Before treating as a waste, food residue was recycled at only 41.9% of foodservices. The main utilization of food residue was the production of soap from used oil. Most dietitians in school foodservices recognized that treating food waste was not so inconvenient, although, the problems of odor and hygiene were not solved. They also thought that the liquid residue(54.1%) and oil(30.4%) among food waste were primarily responsible for resulting environmental pollution.
Food waste left by patients in hospitals is an important indicator of the nutritional adequacy of the patients' diet and of their satisfaction with food. Food wasted by patients or staff in hospitals is one of the most serious problem in hospital foodservice systems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the disposal practices of food waste in hospital foodservices for providing basic information for an efficient solid waste management. This approach was achieved using a variety of qualitative and quantitative information including general food waste practices and measurement of food waste left by patients and staff in 20 hospital foodservices. The average food wasted by patients and staff per day was 402.20kg and 206.98kg respectively, being total food waste of 578.08kg per day. The mean plate waste of a staff was 115.95g, which was much lower than that of a patient (221.03g). As means of food waste treatment, most hospitals(60%) are using animal feed, followed by means of collection by contracters(15%) and disposal of waste collection after condensing. An average monthly cost for disposing food waste was 915,000 won and average 138.58 minutes were spent to dispose food waste in hospital foodservices.
The main purposes of this study were to survey and assess the current situation surrounding solid waste generation in school foodservices, to identify and evaluate the measures(reduction and recycling programs) taken by the foodservices for waste disposal, and to suggest appropriate reform measures to improve the current status, especially in terms of environmental preservation. Questionnaires on solid waste management practices were mailed to 206 school foodservice dietitians in the Kyungbuk region : a 64.0%(N = 130) response rate was obtained. While there are food waste and packaging waste generated from the foodservice operations, about a third(34.1%) of the foodservice operations were responsible for the disposal of both the food wastes and packaging wastes. About 90% of school foodservice managers were responsible for managing solid wastes. The primary recycling methods of leftovers generated from the school food service operations were livestock feed(76.0%). About 60.0% of school foodservice managers conducted the food waste reduction program. The performance by the foodservice managers in reducing the food waste was not satisfactory in several fields, such as developing environmentally friendly menus or abiding by the standard recipe, etc. In addition, the government assistance system was not properly working in the food service management. In conclusion, we should focus on increasing the performance in reducing the food waste by the foodservice managers, strengthening and facilitating the government assistance system for the food waste management and to develop education methods and education materials for food waste management.

With the experience of the 1994 drought, and the shortage of water resources in Japan, it has been re-informed upon us ensure and maintain the stability of water resources. Accordingly, with each plant, a serious appraisal has begun looking at the re-use of waste water. Membrane technology is an important process for waste water recovery. Effluent kom waste water facilities changes the quality of water significantly. The conventional pre-treatment of RO is hard to supply good quality feed water to RO in the waste water recovery system. The microfiltration system as a pre-treatment of RO in the paper overcomes the fouling with the air backwash and is operated in direct flow mode at a low pressure producing a high flux. The paper will focus the waste water recovery using membrane technology and many examples will be given.

Effects of fermented food waste feeds on meat quality and physico-chemical characteristics of fully grown pigs were investigated. Two treatments were tried in this study; commercial feed (control) and fermented food waste feed(FFWF). Except for much thicker backfat of control, carcass traits, carcass weight, dressing percentage, carcass grade, cooking loss, shear force, water-holding capacity, drip loss, NPPC meat color, and marbling score of commercial feed(control)- and fermented food waste feed (FFWF)-fed pigs were not significantly different. Primal cut weights and meat percentages were significantly different (p<0.05) between control and FFWF. pH of FFWF loin was significantly lower (p<0.05) than that of control. FFWF loin showed higher L*-value and lower a*-value compared to control.
This study was conducted to evaluate changes of microbial population, pepsin digestibility of protein and in vitro digestibility of nutrients of food waste mixture pasteurized and cured using a rotary drum system. A pasteurization process (30 min at $80^{\circ}C$) tended to decrease microbial populations and eliminated (P<0.05) molds in food waste mixture. The subsequent curing process increased (P<0.05) lactic acid bacteria counts which were reduced by the heated pasteurization process. The heated pasteurization process decreased (P<0.05) pepsin digestibility of protein in food waste mixture. In vitro digestibilities of dry matter and organic matter were high in the order of bakery by-product, wheat bran, food waste (=barley bran). These results indicate that food waste mixture pasteurized and cured using a semi-dehydration rotary drum system may be an effective animal feed resource.
