Induction of Triploid Abalone, Haliotis discus hannai and Its Biological Characteristics III. Growth and Survival Rate of Triploid Abalone (참전복, Haliotis discus hannai의 3배체 유도와 생물학적 특성에 관한 연구 III. 3배체의 성장)

  • Growth of triploid abalone, Haliotis discus hannai induced by cody (3$^{\circ}C$) shock and its feed efficiency were investigated from larva to adult for 51 months. After 51 months from triploidy induction, the triploid abalones have outgrown to diploid abalones in shell length and total weight. Triploid abalones with inhibition of extrusion of first polar body (3n-1pb) were outgrown to diploid abalones, however, triploid abalones with inhibition of extrusion of second polar body (3n-2pb) were not significantly different from diploid controls in shell length and total weight through the whole rearing period (P<0.05), because of their heterozygosity differences. Daily feeding rates and feed conversion rates decreased with the growth of abalones and both rates had no differnce between two experimental groups. After 51 months from inducing triploid, conditin index of triploid abalone (64.1%) was higher than that of diploid control (59.4%) (P<0.05). Survival rate was 63.0% in triploid group (3n-1pb 62.0%, 3n-2pb 64.0%) and 62.0% in diploid group during the experimental period.

  • In swine production, efficiency of utilization of nutrients is imperative. By embracing advances in processing techniques(i.e., fine grinding, pelleting, steam flaking, roasting, extrusion and expanding) nutrient utilization of feeds turfs have greatly improved. Grinding is by far the most commonly used process with reduction of particle size, Expander, like extruders, are high-temperature and pressure-short-term processor. The purpose of using an expander is to improve pellet quality. Also, expanding of dietary ingredients indicates improvements in growth performance and nutrient digestibility. Because feed cost are easily the greatest economic input into swine production, maximizing nutrient utilization is an area that will continue to receive much attention. Therefore, much attention will continue to be placed on feed processing techniques that will give consistent improvements in animal performance and nutrient digestibility.

Effects of Feeding Level of Extruded Poultry Manure on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility and Body Composition in Korean Native Goats (Extrusion 가공처리 계분사료의 첨가수준이 재래산양의 육성능력, 영양소 소화율 및 체조성에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of supplementary level of extruded poultry manure, corn and tapioca mixture (EPM) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and body composition in korean native goats. Total 15 heads of Korean native goats (10 kg B.W.) were randomly assigned into five treatment groups (EPM 10, 20, 30, 40% and control.) and feeding trial was done for six weeks with ad libitum. Protein level of the extrudate with poultry manure was directly proportional to corn supplements rate. NFE and Ca content in EPM also were functional of the tapioca supplements levels. Daily body weight gain was significantly (p<0.05) reduced in EPM 40% group, but no significant differences were observed in other groups. Concentrate feed intake was high in EPM 10 to 30% groups, compared to the control. Feed conversion ratio also was relatively higher in EPM groups than in the control. As EPM level increased, dry matter digestibility was proportionally decreased, but that of crude protein was enhanced. Dressed carcass percentage was significantly (p<0.05) reduced with the increase of EPM level, showing control 49.7, EPM 10% 49.8, EPM 20% 48.3, EPM 30% 47.9 and EPM 40% 45.2, respectively.

Effects of Extruded and Extruded-Pelleted Corn Products Partially Substituted for Unprocessed Corn of the Starter Diet on Growth Performance and Incidence of Diarrhea in Weanling Pigs

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of partial substitution of an extruded or extruded-pelleted corn product for unprocessed corn of the starter diet on growth performance and incidence of diarrhea in weanling pigs. Seventy-two 21-day-old weanling pigs were allotted to 24 pens and provided ad libitum with one of the four experimental diets for 3 wk in two serial feeding trials during summer beginning from late June. The treatments were a milk product-soy-corn-based control diet containing 25% unprocessed corn and the other three diets only substituted with 12.5% extruded corn Suprex$^{(R)}$, Optigrain$^{(R)}$, an extruded mixture of wheat, rye and durum, or extruded-pelleted corn for an equal percentage of unprocessed corn of the control diet. All diets were supplemented with 100 ppm sulfathiazone, 50 ppm penicillin, and 100 ppm chlortetracycline for preventive medication. The initial and final weights as well as gain : feed were less in the second trial than in the first one (P<0.05). However, effects of the dietary treatments were not detected in any of the performance variables including final weight, ADG, ADFI, and gain : feed, nor were there any interactions between the trial and dietary treatment. In addition, almost all pigs exhibited normal firm feces in both trials and therefore there was no main effect in the fecal consistency score. Results suggest that partial substitution of the thermally processed corn for unprocessed corn of the milk product-corn-soy-based and medicated starter diet has no effect on growth performance or incidence of diarrhea in weanling pigs.

  • The FD process is analogous to the direct piston extrusion process where the cold feed filament acts as a piston extruding the molten filament from the heated liquefier through a nozzle. The extruded filament is deposited on top of futureless platform, where the liquefier and the nozzle move in X and Y direction control by computer based on the part geometry. After the first layer, the Z platform indexes down and the next layer get deposited on top of the first layer. the layer by layer building process introduces surface problem. This paper describes effect of slice interval of the parts built by fused deposition modelling rapid prototyping system.

Effect of Extrusion Processing and Steam Pelleting Diets on Pellet Durability, Water Absorption and Physical Response of Macrobrachium rosenbergii

  • Two hundred and ten post-larvae (PL) of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (14.5-14.9 mg) were equally distributed in two experimental groups and fed with either steam cooked or extruded pellet for a period of 60 days. Physical evaluation and growth promoting effect of both the pellets were assessed. Significantly higher (p<0.05) water stability, absorption and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were recorded in extruded pellet than the steam cooked pellet. Nutrient loss was minimum in the extruded pellet for which lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p<0.05) was recorded in this group. However, weight gain, relative growth and specific growth rate (SGR) in both the groups were not significantly different (p>0.05). Although insignificant (p>0.05) but higher amylase activity was recorded in steam pellet fed group. Survival was not affected by feeding either of the diets.

  • This study was performed to investigate the lipolytic effects of Portulaca oleracea L. extract in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The Portulaca oleracea L. was extracted with extrusion method using twin-screw extruder under $58{\sim}60rpm$ screw speed, $4{\sim}5kg/hr$ feed rate, $140^{\circ}C$ extrusion temperature. The lipolytic action of Portulaca oleracea L. extract was estimated by measuring the amount of glycerol and free fatty acids (FFA) released from 3T3-L1 adipocytes and by measuring the cellular lipid content in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) mRNA level was analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR. The Portulaca oleracea L. extract at 1 to $100{\mu}g/ml$ suppressed lipid accumulation. The release of glycerol and FFA into the medium, and the mRNA level of HSL were significantly increased by the addition of Portulaca oleracea L. extract at dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, the Portulaca oleracea L. extract was suggested to have the lipolytic effect through release of lipolytic products (FFA and glycerol) of triacylglyceride to the culture medium and suppression of lipid accumulation via up-regulation of HSL gene expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

The Processing Technology of Soy Protein Meat Analog Using Twin-Screw Extruder - Heat Transfer Analysis of Cooling Die -

  • Soy protein meat analog was produced using a twin-screw extruder attached with a cooling die. Heat transfer analysis was performed for cooling dies with various die sizes at the four different moisture contents of feed during extrusion process. The experimental design consisted of two cooling die widths (30 and 60 mm), three cooling die lengths (100, 200, and 300 mm), four product moisture contents (71.2, 67.0, 61.6 and 55.8%), and water and water plus ethylene glycol as cooling material. When water was used as cooling medium, the values of equivalent overall heat transfer coefficient $(U_e)$ for each die width of 30 and 60 mm were in the range of 187.0 - 341.4 and $358.5-191.6W/m^2^{\circ}C$ depending on the size of die length. Convective heat transfer coefficients between cooling water and inside die wall of cooling channel $(h_c)$ for both die widths of 30 and 60 mm were 588.5, 416.1, and $339.8W/m^2^{\circ}C$ for each die length of 100, 200, and 300 mm. Convective heat transfer coefficients between product and inside die wall of product channel $(h_p)$ for each die width of 30 and 60 mm were in the range of $434.6-888.1W/m^2^{\circ}C$ and $460.7-1014.5W/m^2^{\circ}C$ depending on the size of die length. When water plus ethylene glycol was used as cooling medium, the values of $U_e$ were in the range of $143.9-319.6W/m^2^{\circ}C$ and $177.8-332.7W/m^2^{\circ}C$ for each die width of 30 and 60 mm depending on the size of die length.

Physical Properties of Yukwa Base According to the Extrusion Processing Conditions (I): Manufacturing of Yukwa Base with Combination of Glutinous Rice Flour and Rice Flour (Extrusion 제조조건에 따른 유과바탕의 물리적 품질특성(I): 찹쌀가루와 쌀가루 배합에 따른 유과바탕의 제조)

  • Physical properties of Yukwa base extruded with glutinous rice flour, rice flour, defatted soy flour, and salt using an twin-screw extruder were investigated. The ingredients were extruded at various moisture contents (16-18%), screw speeds (300 & 400 rpm) at 43.4 kg/hr feed rate. Length and specific volume of Yukwa base increased with decreasing moisture contents. Hunter's color L* values of Yukwa base was higher whereas $a^*\;and\;b^*$ values were lower with increasing moisture content. Water absorption index of Yukwa base increased with increasing moisture contents. X-ray diffraction of Yukwa base showed B type moisture content of 16% and 17% while it showed A type moisture content of 18%. Degree of crystallinity and breaking strength of Yukwa base were the lowest in the moisture content of 16% while the lowest value for hardness was found in the moisture content of 16% and of 17% with screw speed 400 rpm for all samples. In the microstructure of cross section of Yukwa base, air cell size was larger and cell wall was thicker as moisture content increased. The sensory evaluation of the Yukwa base showed that color and flavor were not significantly different among samples, while taste, appearance, mouth feel, and overall preference were higher as moisture contents decreased.

Effects of hot melt extrusion processed nano-iron on growth performance, blood composition, and iron bioavailability in weanling pigs

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of hot melt extrusion (HME) nano-iron as an alternative for the common ferrous sulfate on iron (Fe) bioavailability, growth performance, nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, and intestinal microbiota of weanling pigs. A total of 200 piglets (Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire ${\times}$ Duroc) were randomly allotted to seven treatments on the basis of initial body weight (BW) and sex. Treatments were the INO100 (100 ppm Fe as $FeSO_4$), HME-Fe levels (50, 75, and 100 ppm nano-Fe as $FeSO_4$). ORG100 (100 ppm Fe as iron methionine). In phase 1, the HME50 pigs showed the lowest Fe content in feed and feces. Plasma Fe concentration was increased in HME100 and ORG100 pigs. In phase 2, there were significantly lower concentration of Fe in feed and feces of HME50 pigs (p < 0.01). A lower Fe concentration in the plasma and liver were observed in HME50 pigs compared with HME100 pigs. Concentration of red blood cell (RBC) was the lowest (p < 0.01) for HME50 pigs. During phase 2, the HME100, HME75, and ORG100 pigs showed a higher RBC and hemoglobin values compared with HME50 pigs. Digestibility of gross energy (GE) and crude protein (CP) were significantly higher in HME100 pigs compared with HME50 pigs. There was an increased (p < 0.01) villus height in the duodenum and jejunum of HME100 pigs compared with HME50 pigs. It is concluded that dietary Fe does not improve growth performance of weanling pigs; however, increasing the dietary iron concentration in weanling piglets increased the RBC and hemoglobin. In addition, the potential ability of HME to be used at a lower level (HME75) was observed.
