Thermal output in a nuclear power plant is verified with calorimetric heat balance on the secondary plant. The calorimetry involves the precise measurement of the feedwater flow rate. However, the correct indication of feedwater flow rate obtained by a pressure-difference measurement across a venturi can be affected by instrument errors, fouling or a poorly developed velocity profile. This can result in an inaccurate mass flow rate and consequently an inaccurate estimate of power. The purpose of this study is to develop verification methods with accuracy better than $0.5\%$ for high precision flow measurement to be used for measuring feedwater flow rate. This chemical tracer method is a testing process that uses tracers which can be applied to quantify losses in electrical output due to the incorrect measurements of feedwater flow rate. And this system has good response to the variation of the flow rate. Accuracy of better than 0.5 percent can be expected for feedwater flow measurement, providing that the system can be stabilized during the test. This methodology is applicable to other flow systems well.
Femtosecond laser ablation of the Invar alloy and hole drilling for a shadow mask are studied. We used a regenerative amplified Ti-sapphire laser with a 1kHz repetition rate, 184fs pulse duration and 785nm wavelength. Femtosecond laser pulse was irradiated on the Invar alloy with air blowing at the condition of various laser peak power. An ablation characteristic of the Invar alloy was appeared non-linear at $125J/cm^2$ of energy fluence. For the application to a shadow mask, the hole drilling of the Invar alloy with the cross section of a trapezoidal shape was investigated. The ablated micro-holes were characterized using an atomic force microscopy(AFM). The optimal condition of hole pattern f3r a shadow mask was $4\;{\mu}m$ z-axis feed rate, 0.2mm/s circular velocity, $26.4{\mu}J$ laser peak power. With the optimal processing condition, the fine circular hole shape without burr and thermal damage was achieved. Using the femtoseocond laser system, it demonstrates excellent tool for the Invar alloy micro-hole drilling without heat effects and poor edge.
This paper addresses a numerical simulation of the flow and heat transfer in a simplified model of helically coiled tube steam generator using a general purpose computational fluid dynamic analysis computer code. The steam generator model is comprised of a cylindrical shell and helically coiled tubes. A cold feed water entered the tubes is heated up, evaporates. and finally become a superheated steam with a large amount of heat transferred continuously from the hot compressed water at higher pressure flowing counter-currently through the shell side. For the calculation of tube side two-phase flow field formed by boiling, inhomogeneous two-fluid model is used. Both the internal and external turbulent flows are simulated using the standard k-e model. The conjugate heat transfer analysis method is employed to calculate the conduction in the tube wall with finite thickness and the convections in the internal and external fluids simultaneously so as to match the fluid-wall-fluid interface conditions properly. The numerical calculations are peformed for helically coiled tubes of steam generator at an integral type pressurized water reactor under normal operation. The effects of tube-side inlet flow velocity are discussed in details. The results of present numerical simulation are considered to be physically plausible based on the data and knowledge from previous experimental and numerical studies where available.

One of the parameters that influence the productivity of every industry, involved in metal cutting, is the chip from ; continuous or broken chip. Chip form varies according to machining conditions, material used, tool geometry and chip breaker geometry. Therefore, in this study we carried out the experiment on the chip control in machining STS304 using an attached obstruction type chip breaker. Namely, with the change of a chip breaker distance, chip breaker angle, cutting characteristics in machining STS304 which is well-known as a machining difficult material and produces a saw-toothed chip. The results of the experiment are as follows : 1. The chip breaker distance and angle under which the preferred chip is produced, show 1.5mm and 60 .deg. , while chip breaker angle in machining an ordinary steel was well-known 45 .deg. . 2. During the cutting process, the change of feed than the change of velocity was applied as cutting conditions, effects more clearly on the chip breaking. 3. Considering a whole surface roughness, it is not advisable to apply chip breaker mentioned above for precision cutting.
The feasibility of applying coagulation-integrated microfiltration (MF) as a pretreatment for an ultrafiltration (UF) feed in oily wastewater treatment was investigated. The effects of different coagulants on oil removal rates from wastewater were studied. The maximum oil removal rate of 82% was obtained after coagulation with 130 mg/L of polyaluminium chloride (PAC). UF flux reached $95L/(m^2{\cdot}h)$ with coagulation-integrated MF as pretreatment. This value was 2.5 times higher than that flux obtained without pretreatment. The value of UF flux increased as the transmembrane pressure (TMP) and cross-flow velocity (CFV) of the UF module increased. UF flux gradually increased when TMP and CFV exceeded 0.4 MPa and 3 m/s, respectively, because of concentration polarization and membrane fouling stabilization. Chemical oxygen demand reduction and oil removal rate reached 95.2% and 98.5%, respectively, during integrated membrane processing with a PAC concentration of 130 mg/L, TMP of 0.4 MPa, and CFV of 3 m/s for UF. In addition, sequentially cleaning the fouling membrane with NaOH and $HNO_3$ aqueous solutions caused UF flux to recover to 90%. These encouraging results suggested that the hybrid integrated membrane process-based coagulation and MF + UF are effective approaches for oily wastewater treatment.
We have studied the reduction of NO by propane over perovskite-type oxides prepared by malic acid method. The catalysts were modified to enhance the activity by substitution by substitution of metal into A or B site of perovskite oxides. In addition, the reaction conditions, such as temperature, $O_2$ concentration, space velocity have been studed. In the $LaCoO_3$ type catalyst, the partial substitution of Ba, Sr into A site enhanced the catalytic activity in the reduction of NO. In the $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{1-x}Fe_xO_3(x=0 \sim 1.9)$ catalyst, the partial substitution of Fe into B site enhanced the conversion of NO, but excess amount of Fe decreased the conversion of NO. The surface area and catalytic activity of perovskite catalysts prepared by malic acid method showed higher values than those of solid reaction method. In the $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$ catalyst, the conversion of NO increased with increasing $O_2$ concentration and contact time. The introduction of water into reactant feed decreased the catalytic activity.
In this study, vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) was used to treat high-salinity wastewater (concentration about 17%) discharged by chlor-alkali plant after resin regeneration. The feasibility of VMD for the treatment of real saline wastewater by using Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) microporous plate membrane with a pore diameter of $0.2{\mu}m$ was investigated. The effects of critical operating parameters such as feed temperature, velocity, vacuum degree and concentration on the permeate water flux were analyzed. Numerical simulation was used to predict the flux and the obtained results were in good agreement with the experimental data. The results showed that an increase in the operating conditions could greatly promote the permeate water flux which in turn decreased with an increase in the concentration. When the concentration varied from 17 to 25%, the permeate water flux dropped marginally with time indicating that the concentration was not sensitive to the decrease in permeate water flux. The permeate water flux decreased sharply until zero due to the membrane fouling resistance as the concentration varied from 25 to 26%. However, the conductivity of the produced water was well maintained and the average value was measured to be $4.98{\mu}s/cm$. Furthermore, a salt rejection of more than 99.99% was achieved. Overall, the outcome of this investigation clearly indicates that VMD has the potential for treating high-salinity wastewater.
The GMT-Consortium Large Earth Finder (G-CLEF) is the very first light instrument of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) to be commissioned in 2022. The instrument is a fiber feed, optical band echelle spectrograph that is capable of extremely precise radial velocity measurement. Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) has been involved in the development of the G-CLEF as one member of the international consortium consisted of five astronomical institutes including Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), Observatories of the Carnegie Institution of Washington (OCIW). It is scheduled to have KASI side Critical Design Review in December 2017. In this presentation we will report the recent progress on the critical design activities for the G-CLEF Flexure Control Camera (FCC).
Steam reforming of LPG was investigated over spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst in a temperature range of $600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$, feed molar ratio of $H_2O/C=1.0{\sim}3.0$, space velocity of $10,000{\sim}90,000h^{-1}$ and at atmospheric pressure. spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method, whereas Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were prepared by an incipient wetness method. The characteristics of catalysts were analyzed by N2 Physisorption, CO chemisorption, XRD, TOF-SIMS, SEM and TEM techniques. The Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were deactivated by the formation of carbon. However, the spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst showed higher conversion and $H_2$ selectivity than the other catalysts, even though carbon was formed on the surface of the catalyst during the reaction under the tested reaction conditions.
