Autocrine mechanism for viability enhancement of BAL eosinophils after segmental antigen challenge in allergic asthmatics.

  • Eosinophils are known to be important effector cells in pathogenesis of asthma. The elucidation of mechanism by which eosinophil survival is regulated in vivo at sites of inflammation is critical tn our understanding of asthma pathogenesis. The maintenance of these cells at site of inflammation depends upon tile balance between its tendency to undergo apoptosis and tile local eosinophil-viability enhancing activity, Qualitative and quantative phenotypic differences have been observed between bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and peripheral blood (PB) eosinophils (EOS). We hypothesize that BAL EOS Possess altered functional feature compared to PB EOS. BAL and PB EOS were obtained from ragweed allergic asthmatics after segmental antigen challenge (SAC) at 24 hour or one week, and purified over percoll and CDl6 negative selection. Cells were cultured in duplicate in RPMI, 15% FCS and 1% penicillin/streptomycin without exogenous cytokines. Eosinophil purity and viability was >92%. BAL. EOS viability was 69${\pm}$4.4% versus 39${\pm}$1.6% for PB EOS (p<0.005) at 48 hour time point, and this difference was maintained through day 5 (32${\pm}$7.6% vs. 3.0${\pm}$ 1.4%, p<0.05), Among BAL EOS, those harvested one week after SAC appeared to have an prolonged survival compared to those harvested at 24 hour. Coculture of BAL and PB EOS resulted in significant viability enhancement than expecteed. Direct neutralization of GM-CSF activity, not IL-3 and EL-5, markedly decreased tile survival of BAL EOS in culture, and abrogated tile viability enhancing activity of their culture supernatants in a dose dependent manner. We conclude that BAL EOS activated in vivo possess enhanced viability compared to PB EOS. Mixing and neutralization experiments suggest a role for autocrine production of GM-CSF.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm for individual tooth region segmentation on tooth color images. The proposed algorithm used oral cavity model based on structural feature of tooth and new boundary of watershed algorithm. First, the gray scale image is obtained with emphasized tooth regions from the color images and unnecessary regions are removed on tooth images. Next, the image enhancement of tooth images is implemented using the proposed oral cavity model, and the individual tooth regions are segmented by watershed algorithm on the enhanced images. Boundary and seeds necessary to watershed algorithm are applied boundary of binary image using minimum thresholding and region maximum value. In order to evaluate performance of proposed algorithm, we conduct experiment to compare conventional algorithm with proposed algorithm. As a result of experiment, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm is more improved detection ratio than conventional algorithm at molar regions and the tooth region detection performance is improved by preventing overlap detection on oral cavity.

  • Cu interconnection in electronic devices is fabricated via damascene process including Cu electrodeposition. In this review, Cu electrodeposition and superfilling for fabricating Cu interconnection are introduced. Superfilling results from the influences of organic additives in the electrolyte for Cu electrodeposition, and this is enabled by the local enhancement of Cu electrodeposition at the bottom of filling feature formed on the wafer through manipulating the surface coverage of organic additives. The dimension of metal interconnection has been constantly reduced to increase the integrity of electronic devices, and the width of interconnection reaches the range of few tens of nanometer. This size reduction raises the issues, which are the deterioration of electrical property and the reliability of Cu interconnection, and the difficulty of Cu superfilling. The various researches on the development of organic additives for the modification of Cu microstructure, the application of pulse and pulse-reverse electrodeposition, Cu-based alloy superfilling for improvement of reliability, and the enhancement of superfilling phenomenon to overcome the current problems are addressed in this review.

Enhancement of the Correctness of Marker Detection and Marker Recognition based on Artificial Neural Network (인공신경망을 이용한 마커 검출 및 인식의 정확도 개선)

  • In this paper, we present a method for the enhancement of marker detection correctness and marker recognition speed by using artificial neural network. Contours of objects are extracted from the input image. They are approximated to a list of line segments. Quadrangles are found with the geometrical features of the approximated line segments. They are normalized into exact squares by using the warping technique and scale transformation. Feature vectors are extracted from the square image by using principal component analysis. Artincial neural network is used to checks if the square image is a marker image or a non-marker image. After that, the type of marker is recognized by using an artificial neural network. Experimental results show that the proposed method enhances the correctness of the marker detection and recognition.

  • Digital image blur occurs due to various environmental conditions at the time of shooting. Blur produces the low-frequency component in the image. This problem worsens the quality of the digital image. To address this issue, contrast improvement methods has been widely studied. 2D filter to enhance the edges is a simple structure with a fast processing speed. However, the sensitivity of the human visual system is different depending on the surrounding brightness locally. Thus, in this paper, we proposed feature-based contrast enhancement method for the digital image using 2D filter to enhance the edges and JND(Just Noticeable Difference) according to the surrounding brightness. We confirmed the result image of proposed method and identified that the contrast is improved.

  • The goal of image processing is to improve the visual appearance of images for human viewers. The histogram is an important tool which can be used as basic data of digital image processing. Therefore, to effectively manage a histogram in digital image processing is very important. Currently machine vision systems are used in many appearance inspection fields instead of inspection by human. However, the appearance inspection result by machine vision system is mainly influenced by illumination of workplace. In this paper, we propose a histogram transform method for improving accuracy of machine visual inspection. The enhancement effect of area feature is obtained by performing proposed histogram transformation in area that needs improvement The proposed algorithm is verified by appearance inspection of jig plate samples.

A study on the Symbol Mark Design in Fashion Accessory Brands - Focused on Jewelry brand -

  • This study tried to improve the design of the symbol mark for the fashion industry and effectively publicize the brand image of a small fashion accessory company through a powerful visual communication strategy. For this purpose, this study performed research and an analysis of the features of existing fashion accessory companies as well as the current status and features of their utilization of symbol marks for the enhancement of the brand's image. Total 48 fashion accessory brands focued on jewerly were selected from the Dictionary of Fashion Brand and the types of symbol analyzed the concepts and formative aesthetics of the symbol mark design in each brand. Based on the data, this study designed the fashion accessory company's logo and a new symbol mark design. It makes full use of the characteristics of the logos and the symbol mark that reflect the most critical issues of fashion accessory design so as to promote the consumers' level of product recognition as well as the product symbol characteristics. In the case of combining characters with concrete objects, they were found generally to use objects that give elegance, cute and feminine images, such as rings, hearts and small pets. Moreover, colors in the series of black/grey seemed to be used to convey the concept of accessory brands that pursue modern, sophisticate, and practical images. As these design plans, enhancement of the consumers' level of recognition of the brand is attempted as well as the execution of an effective publicity of the feature of the product through the use of the logo and symbol marks reflecting the features of the fashion accessory, instead of simply introducing the brand or product. The result of this study indicates that methods to design brand symbol marks for clothing should be incessantly sought in a way to build brand power as an important component to represent concepts and reinforce brand image.

  • A traditional speech enhancement methods distort the sound spectrum generated according to estimation of the remaining noise, or invalid noise is a problem of lowering the speech recognition performance. In this paper, we propose a speech detection method that convergence the sound energy distribution process and sound energy parameters. The proposed method was used to receive properties reduce the influence of noise to maximize voice energy. In addition, the smaller value from the feature parameters of the speech signal The log energy features of the interval having a more of the log energy value relative to the region having a large energy similar to the log energy feature of the size of the voice signal containing the noise which reducing the mismatch of the training and the recognition environment recognition experiments Results confirmed that the improved recognition performance are checked compared to the conventional method. Car noise environment of Pause Hit Rate is in the 0dB and 5dB lower SNR region showed an accuracy of 97.1% and 97.3% in the high SNR region 10dB and 15dB 98.3%, showed an accuracy of 98.6%.

Feature based Pre-processing Method to compensate color mismatching for Multi-view Video (다시점 비디오의 색상 성분 보정을 위한 특징점 기반의 전처리 방법)

  • In this paper we propose a new pre-processing algorithm applied to multi-view video coding using color compensation algorithm based on image features. Multi-view images have a difference between neighboring frames according to illumination and different camera characteristics. To compensate this color difference, first we model the characteristics of cameras based on frame's feature from each camera and then correct the color difference. To extract corresponding features from each frame, we use Harris corner detection algorithm and characteristic coefficients used in the model is estimated by using Gauss-Newton algorithm. In this algorithm, we compensate RGB components of target images, separately from the reference image. The experimental results with many test images show that the proposed algorithm peformed better than the histogram based algorithm as much as 14 % of bit reduction and 0.5 dB ~ 0.8dB of PSNR enhancement.

  • In the paper, we propose enhanced feature extraction and matching methods for a mobile environment based on modified SURF. We propose three methods to reduce the computational complexity in a mobile environment. The first is to reduce the dimensions of the SURF descriptor. We compare the performance of existing 64-dimensional SURF with several other dimensional SURFs. The second is to improve the performance using the sign of the trace of the Hessian matrix. In other words, feature points are considered as matched if they have the same sign for the trace of the Hessian matrix, otherwise considered not matched. The last one is to find the best distance-ratio which is used to determine the matching points. We find the best distance-ratio through experiments, and it gives the relatively high accuracy. Finally, existing system which is based on normal SURF method is compared with our proposed system which is based on these three proposed methods. We present that our proposed system shows reduced response time while preserving reasonably good matching accuracy.
