  • Since a great number of 2D engineering drawings are being used in industry and at the same time 3D CAD becomes popular in recent years, we need to reconstruct 3D CAD models from 2D legacy drawings. In this thesis, a combination of a feature recognition method and an expert system is suggested for the 3D solid model reconstruction. Modeling primitives of 3D CAD systems are recognized and constructed by using the pattern matching technique of the features modeling. Additional information for the 3D model reconstruction can be generated by extracting symbols or text entities which are related to form entities. For complex and indefinite cases which cannot be solved by the process of feature recognition, an expert system with a rule base has been used for decision-making. A 3D reconstruction system which recognizes 2D DXF drawing files has been implemented where models composed with protrusions, holes, and cutouts can be handled.

  • This paper proposed a human body posture recognition program based on haar-like feature and hand activity detection. Its distinguishing features are the combination of face detection and motion detection. Firstly, the program uses the haar-like feature face detection to receive the location of human face. The haar-like feature is provided with the advantages of speed. It means the less amount of calculation the haar-like feature can exclude a large number of interference, and it can discriminate human face more accurately, and achieve the face position. Then the program uses the frame subtraction to achieve the position of human body motion. This method is provided with good performance of the motion detection. Afterwards, the program recognises the human body motion by calculating the relationship of the face position with the position of human body motion contour. By the test, we know that the recognition rate of this algorithm is more than 92%. The results show that, this algorithm can achieve the result quickly, and guarantee the exactitude of the result.

  • In this work a Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT)-based feature dimensionality reduced approach for fingerprint matching is proposed. The DCT is applied on a small region around the core point of fingerprint image. The performance of our proposed method is evaluated on a small database of Bologna University and two large databases of FVC2000. A dimensionally reduced feature vector is formed using only approximately 19%, 7%, and 6% DCT coefficients for the three databases from Bologna University and FVC2000, respectively. We compared the results of our proposed method with the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) method, the rotated wavelet filters (RWFs) method, and a combination of DWT+RWF and DWT+(HL+LH) subbands of RWF. The proposed method reduces the false acceptance rate from approximately 18% to 4% on DB1 (Database of Bologna University), approximately 29% to 16% on DB2 (FVC2000), and approximately 26% to 17% on DB3 (FVC2000) over the DWT based feature extraction method.

  • Emotion recognition between human and human is done compositely using various features that are face, voice, gesture and etc. Among them, it is a face that emotion expression is revealed the most definitely. Human expresses and recognizes a emotion using complex and various features of the face. This paper proposes hybrid feature extraction for emotions recognition from facial expression. Hybrid feature extraction imitates emotion recognition system of human by combination of geometrical feature based extraction and color distributed histogram. That is, it can robustly perform emotion recognition by extracting many features of facial expression.

  • Tree species-specific estimates with spacebome high-resolution imagery improve estimation of forest biomass which is needed to predict the long term planning for the sustainable forest management(SFM). This paper is a contribution to develop crown distinguishing coniferous species, Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis, from QuickBird imagery. The proposed feature analysis derived from shape parameters and first and second-order statistical texture features of the same test area were compared for the two species separation and delineation. As expected, initial studies have shown that both formfactor and compactness shape parameters provided the successful differentiating method between the pine species within the compartment for single crown identification from spaceborne high resolution imagery. Another result revealed that the selected texture parameters - the mean, variance, angular second moment(ASM) - in the infrared band image could produce good subset combination of texture features for representing detailed tree crown outline.

  • In this paper, we develop a galaxy image classification method based on hand-crafted features and machine learning techniques. Additionally, we provide an empirical analysis to reveal which combination of the techniques is effective for galaxy image classification. To achieve this, we developed a framework which consists of four modules such as preprocessing, feature extraction, feature post-processing, and classification. Finally, we found that the best technique for galaxy image classification is a method to use a median filter, ORB vector features and a voting classifier based on RBF SVM, random forest and logistic regression. The final method is efficient so we believe that it is applicable to embedded environments.

  • This paper investigates effective methods for implementing motion matching, which is actively used in real-time motion generation applications. The success of motion matching heavily hinges on its simple definition of a feature vector, yet this very definition can introduce significant variance in the outcomes. Our research focuses on identifying the optimal combination of feature vectors that effectively generates desired trajectories in locomotion generation. To this end, we experimented with a range of feature vector combinations and performed an in-depth error analysis to evaluate the results.

  • This study presents a new intelligent yield management methodology which can forecast the yield level of a production unit based on features' behaviors. In this proposed methodology, we identify the existing features using C5.0 that are combination of nodes (i.e., variables) in the decision tree generated by C5.0, use SOM(Self-Organizing Map) neural networks in oder to extract the feature's patterns and classify, and then make features' control rules using C5.0.

  • Koreans have regarded the red as a major color from old times. The red is a traditional color to have symbols of high position, national foundation and especially royalty. So, we can see the reds in the palace for kings very much. The purpose of this study is to draw out the features of color red in the Kyungbok palace. The color was analyzed by two categories-architectural buildings${\cdot}$structures and ornamental painted patterns. The major findings from this research are summarized as follows:1. Seokganju(similar to terra rossa) and toyugsaek(light seokganju) are found main colors in architectural space, while seokganju has a linear effect and toyuk has a facial effect. 2. Yugsaek(similar to light vermillion) and Jangdan(similar to orange) are found main colors in ornamental painted patterns. These colors are more vivid and brighter than those for architectural space.3. As for two-color combination, reds and blues(including greens) are found major combination both of architectural space and ornamental patterns. And reds and white are the following combination, which gives an bright image by white. 4. As for three-color combination, red-white-black combination of pediment and red-blue-white combination of openings are found very popular in architectural space, while red-blue-yellow combination is most popular in ornamental patterns. The reds are found dominant color of both architectural space and ornamental patterns in the Kyungbok palace. The color design as shown in the Kyungbok palace can be considered as the feature of traditional color design.

  • In this paper, we studied the use of the foreground and background features and SVM classifier to improve the accuracy of offline handwritten numeral recognition. The foreground features are two directional features: directional gradient feature by Kirsch operators and directional stroke feature by projection runlength, and the background feature is concavity feature which is extracted from the convex hull of the numeral, where concavity feature functions as complement to the directional features. During classification of the numeral, these three features are combined to obtain good discrimination power. The efficiency of our feature sets was tested by recognition experiments on the handwritten numeral database CENPARMI, where we used SVM with RBF kernel as a classifier. The experimental results showed that each combination of two or three features gave a better performance than a single feature. This means that each single feature works with a different discriminating power and cooperates with other features to enhance the recognition accuracy. By using the composite feature of the three features, we achieved a recognition rate of 98.90%.
