This paper concerns a robust real-time voice activity detection (VAD) approach which is easy to understand and implement. The proposed approach employs several short-term speech/nonspeech discriminating features in a voting paradigm to achieve a reliable performance in different environments. This paper mainly focuses on the performance improvement of a recently proposed approach which uses spectral peak valley difference (SPVD) as a feature for silence detection. The main issue of this paper is to apply a set of features with SPVD to improve the VAD robustness. The proposed approach uses a weighted voting scheme in order to take the discriminative power of the employed feature set into account. The experiments show that the proposed approach is more robust than the baseline approach from different points of view, including channel distortion and threshold selection. The proposed approach is also compared with some other VAD techniques for better confirmation of its achievements. Using the proposed weighted voting approach, the average VAD performance is increased to 89.29% for 5 different noise types and 8 SNR levels. The resulting performance is 13.79% higher than the approach based only on SPVD and even 2.25% higher than the not-weighted voting scheme.

We propose a hybrid pattern recognition method that effectively combines two different features for improving data classification. We first extract the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis) features, both of which are widely used in pattern recognition, to construct a set of basic features, and then evaluate the separability of each basic feature. According to the results of evaluation, we select only the basic features that contain a large amount of discriminative information for construction of the combined features. The experimental results for the various data sets in the UCI machine learning repository show that using the proposed combined features give better recognition rates than when solely using the PCA or LDA features.
In the rapidly evolving domain of e-commerce, our study presents a cohesive approach to enhance customer satisfaction prediction from online reviews, aligning methodological innovation with practical insights. We integrate the RFE-SHAP feature selection with LDA topic modeling to streamline predictive analytics in e-commerce. This integration facilitates the identification of key features-specifically, narrowing down from an initial set of 28 to an optimal subset of 14 features for the Random Forest algorithm. Our approach strategically mitigates the common issue of overfitting in models with an excess of features, leading to an improved accuracy rate of 84% in our Random Forest model. Central to our analysis is the understanding that certain aspects in review content, such as quality, fit, and durability, play a pivotal role in influencing customer satisfaction, especially in the clothing sector. We delve into explaining how each of these selected features impacts customer satisfaction, providing a comprehensive view of the elements most appreciated by customers. Our research makes significant contributions in two key areas. First, it enhances predictive modeling within the realm of e-commerce analytics by introducing a streamlined, feature-centric approach. This refinement in methodology not only bolsters the accuracy of customer satisfaction predictions but also sets a new standard for handling feature selection in predictive models. Second, the study provides actionable insights for e-commerce platforms, especially those in the clothing sector. By highlighting which aspects of customer reviews-like quality, fit, and durability-most influence satisfaction, we offer a strategic direction for businesses to tailor their products and services.

In this paper, a new GA-based methodology with information granules is suggested for construction of the fuzzy classifier. We deal with the selection of the fuzzy region as well as two major classification problems-the feature selection and the pattern classification. The proposed method consists of three steps: the selection of the fuzzy region, the construction of the fuzzy sets, and the tuning of the fuzzy rules. The genetic algorithms (GAs) are applied to the development of the information granules so as to decide the satisfactory fuzzy regions. Finally, the GAs are also applied to the tuning procedure of the fuzzy rules in terms of the management of the misclassified data (e.g., data with the strange pattern or on the boundaries of the classes). To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, an example-the classification of the Iris data, is provided.

This paper proposed the optimal attributes for text classification based on Korean and Chinese linguistic features. The experiments committed to discover which is the best feature among n-grams which is known as language independent, morphemes that have language dependency and some other feature sets consisted with n-grams and morphemes showed best results. This paper used SVM classifier and Internet news for text classification. As a result, bi-gram was the best feature in Korean text categorization with the highest F1-Measure of 87.07%, and for Chinese document classification, 'uni-gram+noun+verb+adjective+idiom', which is the combined feature set, showed the best performance with the highest F1-Measure of 82.79%.
Network intrusion detection system based on machine learning method such as artificial neural network is quite dependent on the selected features in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Nevertheless, choosing the optimal combination of features, which guarantees accuracy and efficienty, from generally used many features to detect network intrusion requires extensive computing resources. In this paper, we deal with a optimal feature selection problem to determine 6 denial service attacks and normal usage provided by NSL-KDD data. We propose a optimal feature selection algorithm. Proposed algorithm is based on the multi-start local search algorithm, one of representative meta-heuristic algorithm for solving optimization problem. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm, comparison with a case of all 41 features used against NSL-KDD data is conducted. In addtion, comparisons between 3 well-known machine learning methods (multi-layer perceptron., Bayes classifier, and Support vector machine) are performed to find a machine learning method which shows the best performance combined with the proposed feature selection method.

This study is related to the acquisition of physiological signals of human emotions and the recognition of human emotions using such physiological signals. To acquire physiological signals, seven emotions are evoked through stimuli. Regarding the induced emotions, the results of skin temperature, photoplethysmography, electrodermal activity, and an electrocardiogram are recorded and analyzed as physiological signals. The suitability and effectiveness of the stimuli are evaluated by the subjects themselves. To address the problem of the emotions not being recognized, we introduce a methodology for a recognizer using prototype-based learning and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The design involves two main phases: i) PSO selects the P% of the patterns to be treated as prototypes of the seven emotions; ii) PSO is instrumental in the formation of the core set of features. The experiments show that a suitable selection of prototypes and a substantial reduction of the feature space can be accomplished, and the recognizer formed in this manner is characterized by high recognition accuracy for the seven emotions using physiological signals.
An accurate approach for diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is presented in this paper. The presented technique efficiently classifies three subtypes of ADHD (ADHD-C, ADHD-H, ADHD-I) and typically developing control (TDC) by using only structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The research examines structural MRI of the hippocampus from the ADHD-200 database. Each available MRI has been processed by a region-of-interest (ROI) to build a set of features for further analysis. The presented ADHD diagnostic approach unifies feature selection and classification techniques. The feature selection technique based on the proposed binary-coded genetic algorithm searches for an optimal subset of features extracted from the hippocampus. The classification technique uses a chosen optimal subset of features for accurate classification of three subtypes of ADHD and TDC. In this study, the famous Extreme Learning Machine is used as a classification technique. Experimental results clearly indicate that the presented BCGA-ELM (binary-coded genetic algorithm coupled with Extreme Learning Machine) efficiently classifies TDC and three subtypes of ADHD and outperforms existing techniques.
Semantic interpretation of the relationship between noun compound (NC) elements has been a challenging issue due to the lack of contextual information, the unbounded number of combinations, and the absence of a universally accepted system for the categorization. The current models require a huge corpus of data to extract contextual information, which limits their usage in many situations. In this paper, a new semantic relations interpreter for NCs based on novel lightweight binary features is proposed. Some of the binary features used are novel. In addition, the interpreter uses a new feature selection method. By developing these new features and techniques, the proposed method removes the need for any huge corpuses. Implementing this method using a modular and plugin-based framework, and by training it using the largest and the most current fine-grained data set, shows that the accuracy is better than that of previously reported upon methods that utilize large corpuses. This improvement in accuracy and the provision of superior efficiency is achieved not only by improving the old features with such techniques as semantic scattering and sense collocation, but also by using various novel features and classifier max entropy. That the accuracy of the max entropy classifier is higher compared to that of other classifiers, such as a support vector machine, a Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and a decision tree, is also shown.

Network data modeling is a essential research for the evaluation for intrusion detection systems performance, network modeling and methods for analyzing network data. In network data modeling, real data from the network must be analyzed and the modeled data must be efficiently composed to reflect a sufficient amount of the original data. In this parer the useful elements of real network data were quantified from packets captured from a huge network. Futhermore, a statistical analysis method was used to find the most effective element for efficiently classifying the modeled data.
