  • Selection of feature pattern gathered from the observation of the RNA sequencing data (RNA-seq) are not all equally informative for identification of differential expressions: some of them may be noisy, correlated or irrelevant because of redundancy in Big-Data sets. Variable selection of feature pattern aims at differential expressed gene set that is significantly relevant for a special task. This issues are complex and important in many domains, for example. In terms of a computational research field of machine learning, selection of feature pattern has been studied such as Random Forest, K-Nearest and Support Vector Machine (SVM). One of most the well-known machine learning algorithms is SVM, which is classical as well as original. The one of a member of SVM-criterion is Support Vector Machine-Recursive Feature Elimination (SVM-RFE), which have been utilized in our research work. We propose a novel algorithm of the SVM-RFE with Q-learning in reinforcement learning for better variable selection of feature pattern. By comparing our proposed algorithm with the well-known SVM-RFE combining Welch' T in published data, our result can show that the criterion from weight vector of SVM-RFE enhanced by Q-learning has been improved by an off-policy by a more exploratory scheme of Q-learning.

  • Faced with the increasing demand for image recognition on mobile devices, how to run convolutional neural network (CNN) models on mobile devices with limited computing power and limited storage resources encourages people to study efficient model design. In recent years, many effective architectures have been proposed, such as mobilenet_v1, mobilenet_v2 and PeleeNet. However, in the process of feature selection, all these models neglect some information of shallow features, which reduces the capture of shallow feature location and semantics. In this study, we propose an effective framework based on Feature Pyramid Networks to improve the recognition accuracy of deep and shallow images while guaranteeing the recognition speed of PeleeNet structured images. Compared with PeleeNet, the accuracy of structure recognition on CIFA-10 data set increased by 4.0%.

  • This paper introduces a new model based method for facial expression recognition that uses facial grid angles as feature space. In order to be able to recognize the six main facial expression, proposed method uses a grid approach and therefore it establishes a new feature space based on the angles that each gird's edge and vertex form. The way taken in the paper is robust against several affine transformations such as translation, rotation, and scaling which in other approaches are considered very harmful in the overall accuracy of a facial expression recognition algorithm. Also, this paper demonstrates the process that the feature space is created using angles and how a selection process of feature subset within this space is applied with Wrapper approach. Selected features are classified by SVM, 3-NN classifier and classification results are validated with two-tier cross validation. Proposed method shows 94% classification result and feature selection algorithm improves results by up to 10% over the full set of feature.

  • Computing music similarity is indispensable in constructing music retrieval system. This paper focuses on the cover song search among various music-retrieval tasks. We investigate the cover song search method based on the chroma n-gram to reduce storage for feature DB and enhance search accuracy. Specifically we propose t-tab n-gram, n-gram selection method, and n-gram set comparison method. Experiments on the widely used music dataset confirmed that the proposed method improves cover song search accuracy as well as reduces feature storage.

  • This paper suggests a method to recognize the various defect patterns of a cold mill strip using a binary decision tree automatically constructed by a genetic algorithm(GA). In classifying complex patterns with high similarity like the defect patterns of a cold mill stirp, the selection of an optimal feature set and an appropriate recognizer is important to achieve high recognition rate. In this paper a GA is used to select a subset of the suitable features at each node in the binary decision tree. The feature subset with maximum fitness is chosen and the patterns are classified into two classes using a linear decision function. This process is repeated at each node until all the patterns are classified into individual classes. In this way, the classifier using the binary decision tree is constructed automatically. After constructing the binary decision tree, the final recognizer is accomplished by having neural network learning sits of standard patterns at each node. In this paper, the classifier using the binary decision tree is applied to the recognition of defect patterns of a cold mill strip, and the experimental results are given to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed scheme.

  • Developing effective tools for predicting absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion properties and toxicity (ADME/T) of new chemical entities in the early stage of drug design is one of the most important tasks in drug discovery and development today. As one of these attempts, support vector machines (SVM) has recently been exploited for the prediction of ADME/T related properties. However, two problems in SVM modeling, i.e. feature selection and parameters setting, are still far from solved. The two problems have been shown to be crucial to the efficiency and accuracy of SVM classification. In particular, the feature selection and optimal SVM parameters setting influence each other, which indicates that they should be dealt with simultaneously. In this account, we present an integrated practical solution, in which genetic-based algorithm (GA) is used for feature selection and grid search (GS) method for parameters optimization. hERG ion-channel inhibitor classification models of ADME/T related properties has been built for assessing and testing the proposed GA-GS-SVM. We generated 6 different models that are 3 different single models and 3 different ensemble models using training set - 1891 compounds and validated with external test set - 175 compounds. We compared single model with ensemble model to solve data imbalance problems. It was able to improve accuracy of prediction to use ensemble model.

  • In feature selection, the selective evaluation scheme for Ant Colony Optimization(ACO) has recently been proposed, which reduces computational load by excluding unnecessary or less promising candidate solutions from the actual evaluation. Its superiority was supported by experimental results. However the experiment seems to be not statistically sufficient since it used only one dataset. The aim of this paper is to analyze convergence characteristics of the selective evaluation scheme and to make the conclusion more convincing. We chose three datasets related to handwriting, medical, and speech domains from UCI repository whose feature set size ranges from 256 to 617. For each of them, we executed 12 independent runs in order to obtain statistically stable data. Each run was given 72 hours to observe the long-time convergence. Based on analysis of experimental data, we describe a reason for the superiority and where the scheme can be applied.

  • Sharing of online videos via internet is an emerging and important concept in different types of applications like surveillance and video mobile search in different web related applications. So there is need to manage personalized web video retrieval system necessary to explore relevant videos and it helps to peoples who are searching for efficient video relates to specific big data content. To evaluate this process, attributes/features with reduction of dimensionality are computed from videos to explore discriminative aspects of scene in video based on shape, histogram, and texture, annotation of object, co-ordination, color and contour data. Dimensionality reduction is mainly depends on extraction of feature and selection of feature in multi labeled data retrieval from multimedia related data. Many of the researchers are implemented different techniques/approaches to reduce dimensionality based on visual features of video data. But all the techniques have disadvantages and advantages in reduction of dimensionality with advanced features in video retrieval. In this research, we present a Novel Intent based Dimension Reduction Semi-Supervised Learning Approach (NIDRSLA) that examine the reduction of dimensionality with explore exact and fast video retrieval based on different visual features. For dimensionality reduction, NIDRSLA learns the matrix of projection by increasing the dependence between enlarged data and projected space features. Proposed approach also addressed the aforementioned issue (i.e. Segmentation of video with frame selection using low level features and high level features) with efficient object annotation for video representation. Experiments performed on synthetic data set, it demonstrate the efficiency of proposed approach with traditional state-of-the-art video retrieval methodologies.

  • Motor imagery classification in electroencephalography (EEG)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems is an important research area. To simplify the complexity of the classification, selected power bands and electrode channels have been widely used to extract and select features from raw EEG signals, but there is still a loss in classification accuracy in the state-of- the-art approaches. To solve this problem, we propose a discriminative feature extraction algorithm based on power bands with principle component analysis (PCA). First, the raw EEG signals from the motor cortex area were filtered using a bandpass filter with ${\mu}$ and ${\beta}$ bands. This research considered the power bands within a 0.4 second epoch to select the optimal feature space region. Next, the total feature dimensions were reduced by PCA and transformed into a final feature vector set. The selected features were classified by applying a support vector machine (SVM). The proposed method was compared with a state-of-art power band feature and shown to improve classification accuracy.

  • Random Forest (RF), a representative ensemble technique, was applied to automatic classification of journal articles in the field of library and information science. Especially, I performed various experiments on the main factors such as tree number, feature selection, and learning set size in terms of classification performance that automatically assigns class labels to domestic journals. Through this, I explored ways to optimize the performance of random forests (RF) for imbalanced datasets in real environments. Consequently, for the automatic classification of domestic journal articles, Random Forest (RF) can be expected to have the best classification performance when using tree number interval 100~1000(C), small feature set (10%) based on chi-square statistic (CHI), and most learning sets (9-10 years).
