Target identification for visual tracking

  • In moving object tracking based on the visual sensory feedback, a prerequisite is to determine which feature or which object is to be tracked and then the feature or the object identification precedes the tracking. In this paper, we focus on the object identification not image feature identification. The target identification is realized by finding out corresponding line segments to the hypothesized model segments of the target. The key idea is the combination of the Mahalanobis distance with the geometrica relationship between model segments and extracted line segments. We demonstrate the robustness and feasibility of the proposed target identification algorithm by a moving vehicle identification and tracking in the video traffic surveillance system over images of a road scene.

Fuzzy Neural Network-based Visual Servoing : part I (퍼지 신경망을 이용한 시각구동(I))

  • It is shown that there exists a nonlinear mapping which transforms image features and their changes to the desired camera motion without measuring of the relative distance between the camera and the object. This nonlinear mapping can eliminate several difficulties occurring in computing the inverse of the feature Jacobian as in the usual feature-based visual feedback control methods. Instead of analytically deriving the closed form of this mapping, a Fuzzy Membership Function-based Neural Network (FMFNN) incorporating a Fuzzy-Neural Interpolating Network is used to approximate the nonlinear mapping. Several FMFNN's are trained to be capable of tracking a moving object in the whole workspace along the line of sight. For an effective implementation of the proposed FMF network, an image feature selection process is investigated. Finally, several numerical examples are presented to show the validity of the proposed visual servoing method.

For the effective implementation of proposed IMF networks, an image feature selection processing is investigated, and required fuzzy membership functions are designed. Finally, several numerical examples are illustrated to show the validities of our proposed visual servoing method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new relevance feedback algorithm using Probabilistic Neural Networks(PNN) while supporting multi-class learning. Then, to validate the effectiveness of our feedback approach, we incorporate the proposed algorithm into our region-based image retrieval tool, FRIP(Finding Regions In the Pictures). In our feedback approach, there is no need to assume that feature vectors are independent, and as well as it allows the system to insert additional classes for detail classification. In addition, it does not have a long computation time for training because it only has four layers. In the PNN classification process, we store the user's entire past feedback actions as a history in order to improve performance for future iterations. By using a history, our approach can capture the user's subjective intension more precisely and prevent retrieval performance errors which originate from fluctuating or degrading in the next iteration. The efficacy of our method is validated using a set of 3000 images derived from a Corel-photo CD.

  • Recently, even if a lot of visual feature representations have been studied and systems have been built, there is a limit to existing content-based image retrieval mechanism in its availability. One of the limits is the gap between a user's high-level concepts and a system's low-level features. And human beings' subjectivity in perceiving similarity is excluded. Therefore, correct visual information delivery and a method that can retrieve the data efficiently are required. Relevance feedback can increase the efficiency of image retrieval because it responds of a user's information needs in multimedia retrieval. This paper proposes an efficient CBIR introducing positive and negative relevance feedback with threshold value and pre-fetching to improve the performance of conventional relevance feedback mechanisms. With this Proposed feedback strategy, we implement an image retrieval system that improves the conventional retrieval system.

  • To cope actively with the changes of external environments, it is necessary that a robot should have visual feedback control (VFC) using image informations. A VFC system consists of a manipulator and camera(s). For the fixed visual system, when feature value are located at the same line, we have a problem of singular value unable to be controlled by VFC. As a solution, we may define state values of the image Jacobians, then, by making comparisons and evaluations of feature values, select available ones. This method, however, has a demerit increasing numbers of feature values. To solve the problem, moving cameras of VFC system actively, we suggest an algorithm which dose not cause singular value, and prove its availability through simulations.

  • This paper shows a reinforcement post-processing method and feedback algorithm for improvement of assigning method in classification. Especially, we focused on complex documents that are generally considered to be hard to classify. A basis factors in traditional classification system are training methodology, classification models and features of documents. The classification problem of the documents containing shared features and multiple meanings, should be deeply mined or analyzed than general formatted data. To address the problems of these document, we proposed a method to expand classification scheme using decision boundary detected automatically in our previous studies. The assigning method that a document simply decides to the top ranked category, is a main factor that we focus on. In this paper, we propose a post-processing method and feedback algorithm to analyze the relevance of ranked list. In experiments, we applied our post-processing method and one time feedback algorithm to complex documents. The experimental results show that our system does not need to change the classification algorithm itself to improve the accuracy and flexibility.

Research on Per-cell Codebook based Channel Quantization for CoMP Transmission

  • Coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission has been regarded as a potential technology for LTE-Advanced. In frequency division duplexing systems, channel quantization is applied for reporting channel state information (CSI). Considering the dynamic number of cooperation base stations (BSs), asymmetry feature of CoMP channels and high searching complexity, simply increasing the size of the codebook used in traditional multiple antenna systems to quantize the global CSI of CoMP systems directly is infeasible. Per-cell codebook based channel quantization to quantize local CSI for each BS separately is an effective method. In this paper, the theoretical upper bounds of system throughput are derived for two codeword selection schemes, independent codeword selection (ICS) and joint codeword selection (JCS), respectively. The feedback overhead and selection complexity of these two schemes are analyzed. In the simulation, the system throughput of ICS and JCS is compared. Both analysis and simulation results show that JCS has a better tradeoff between system throughput and feedback overhead. The ICS has obvious advantage in complexity, but it needs additional phase information (PI) feedback for obtaining the approximate system throughput with JCS. Under the same number of feedback bits constraint, allocating the number of bits for channel direction information (CDI) and PI quantization can increase the system throughput, but ICS is still inferior to JCS. Based on theoretical analysis and simulation results, some recommendations are given with regard to the application of each scheme respectively.

Dynamic Range Extension of CMOS Image Sensor with Column Capacitor and Feedback Structure (컬럼 커패시터와 피드백 구조를 이용한 CMOS 이미지 센서의 동작 범위 확장)

  • This paper presents a wide dynamic range complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with column capacitor and feedback structure. The designed circuit has been fabricated by using $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal standard CMOS technology. This sensor has dual mode operation using combination of active pixel sensor (APS) and passive pixel sensor (PPS) structure. The proposed pixel operates in the APS mode for high-sensitivity in normal light intensity, while it operates in the PPS mode for low-sensitivity in high light intensity. The proposed PPS structure is consisted of a conventional PPS with column capacitor and feedback structure. The capacitance of column capacitor is changed by controlling the reference voltage using feedback structure. By using the proposed structure, it is possible to store more electric charge, which results in a wider dynamic range. The simulation and measurement results demonstrate wide dynamic range feature of the proposed PPS.

Relevance Feedback Agent for Improving Precision in Korean Web Information Retrieval System (한국어 웹 정보검색 시스템의 정확도 향상을 위한 연관 피드백 에이전트)

  • Since the existed Korean Web IR systems generally use boolean system, it is difficult to retrieve the information to be wanted at one time. Also, because of the feature that web documents have the frequent abbreviation and many links, the keyword extraction using the inverted document frequency extracts the improper keywords for adding ambiguous meaning problem. Therefore, users must repeat the modification of the queries until they get the proper information. In this paper, we design and implement the relevance feedback agent system for resolving the above problems. The relevance feedback agent system extracts the proper information in response to user's preferred keywords and stores these keywords in preference DB table. When users retrieve this information later, the relevance feedback agent system will search it adding relevant keywords to user's queries. As a result of this method, the system can reduce the number of modification of user's queries and improve the efficiency of the IR system.
