밀링 에너지 변화에 따른 TiC 분말의 미세화 거동에 관한 정량적 연구 (Quantitative Study on the Refinement Behaviors of TiC Powders Produced by Mechanical Milling Under Different Impact Energy)

  • This study investigated refinement behaviors of TiC powders produced under different impact energy conditions using a mechanical milling process. The initial coarse TiC powders with an average diameter of 9.3 ${\mu}m$ were milled for 5, 20, 60 and 120 mins through the conventional low energy mechanical milling (LEMM, 22G) and specially designed high energy mechanical milling (HEMM, 65G). TiC powders with angular shape became spherical one and their sizes decreased as the milling time increased, irrespective of milling energy. Based upon the FE-SEM and BET results of milled powders, it was found initial coarse TiC powders readily became much finer near 100 nm within 60 min under HEMM, while their sizes were over 200 nm under LEMM, despite the long milling time of up to 120 min. Particularly, ultra-fine TiC powders with an average diameter of 77 nm were fabricated within 60 min in the presence of toluene under HEMM.

  • An Fe-Ni-Co based superalloy Incoloy 909 (Incoloy 909) has been used for gas turbine engine component material. This alloy is susceptible to high temperature oxidation and corrosion because of the absence of corrosion resistant Cr. For the improvement of durability of the component of Incoloy 909 aluminizing-chromate coating by pack cementation process has been investigated at relatively low temperature of about $550^{\circ}C$ to protect the surface microstructure and properties of Incoloy 909 substrate. As a previous study to aluminizing-chromate coating by pack cementation of Incoloy 909, the optimal aluminizing process has been investigated. The size effects of source Al powder and inert filler $Al_O_3$ powder and activator selection have been studied. And the dependence of coating growth rate on aluminizing temperature and time has also been studied. The optimal aluminizing process for the coating growth rate is that the mixing ratio of source Al powder, activator $NH_4Cl$ and filler $Al_O_3$ are 80%, 1% and 19% respectively at aluminizing temperature $552^{\circ}C$ and time 20 hours.

구형 단분산 실리카 분말을 이용한 SiOx 음극활물질 제조 및 형상조절 기술 (Fabrication of SiOx Anode Active Materials Using Spherical Silica Powder and Shape Control Technology)

  • The theoretical capacity of silicon-based anode materials is more than 10 times higher than the capacity of graphite, so silicon can be used as an alternative to graphite anode materials. However, silicon has a much higher contraction and expansion rate due to lithiation of the anode material during the charge and discharge processes, compared to graphite anode materials, resulting in the pulverization of silicon particles during repeated charge and discharge. To compensate for the above issues, there is a growing interest in SiOx materials with a silica or carbon coating to minimize the expansion of the silicon. In this study, spherical silica (SiO2) was synthesized using TEOS as a starting material for the fabrication of such SiOx through heating in a reduction atmosphere. SiOx powder was produced by adding PVA as a carbon source and inducing the reduction of silica by the carbothermal reduction method. The ratio of TEOS to distilled water, the stirring time, and the amount of PVA added were adjusted to induce size and morphology, resulting in uniform nanosized spherical silica particles. For the reduction of the spherical monodisperse silica particles, a nitrogen gas atmosphere mixed with 5 % hydrogen was applied, and oxygen atoms in the silica were selectively removed by the carbothermal reduction method. The produced SiOx powder was characterized by FE-SEM to examine the morphology and size changes of the particles, and XPS and FT-IR were used to examine the x value (O/Si ratio) of the synthesized SiOx.

원소별 함량결정을 위한 PIXE 스펙트럼 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on PIXE Spectrum Analysis for the Determination of Elemental Contents)

  • PIXE(Proton Induced X-ray Emission)법을 수도물, 적포도주, 소변 및 흑분시료의 미량원소분석에 적용하여 보았다. SNU 1.5-MV 탄뎀 반데 그라프 가속기에서 얻은 1.202 MeV 양성자빔을 시료에 조사시켰으며 X-선 스펙트럼은 Si(Li) 스펙트로미터로 측정하였다. 분석의 감도를 높이기 위해 수도물은 증발법을 사용하여 농축하였다. 표준시료로서 흑분에는 Ni가루를 섞었고 다추 시료에는 yttrium용액을 첨가하였다. PIXE 스펙트럼은 AXIL(Analytical X-ray Analysis by Iterative Least-squares) 컴퓨터 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였는데, 최소자승법은 Marquardt 알고리즘에 기초하고 있다. 수도물에서는 Mg, Al, Si, Ti, Fe, Zn등과 같은 원소들이 ppm이하의 함량으로 분석되었다 농축을 하지 않은 적포도주 시료에서는 Ti 원소가 3 ppm의 함량으로 검출되었다. 결론적으로 표준시료를 쓴 상대측정법에 의한 수용액시료분석에 PIXE법이 적합함을 입증할 수 있었으며, 정확한 X-선 발생단면적을 사용하고 시료준비기술을 개발하면 이 분석법을 향상시킬 수 있으리라 기대한다.

고감도 에탄올 가스 센서 (High sensitivity ethanol gas sensors)

  • Highly sensitive thick film ethanol gas sensors based on a nanocrystalline $In_{2}O_{3}$ were fabricated by painting method on alumina substrates. The crystal structure of the $In_{2}O_{3}$ powder was characterised by XRD analysis. The microstructure of the films were characterised using FE-SEM. The experimental results of the ethanol gas sensing characteristics indicated that the undoped $In_{2}O_{3}$ thick film has a high sensitivity. The sensitivity of the film heat treated at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. was as high as 32.73 at an operating temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ to 1000 ppm ethanol gas in air.

  • Nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ electrode were prepared by spray-printing in order to efficiency and improved fill factor. Different compositions of nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ pastes are described, based on $TiO_2$ powder made by ourselves. The produced by spray printing $TiO_2$ films were compare with the produced by squeeze printing $TiO_2$ films and was studied in the light of static I-V characteristics. The produced $TiO_2$ films are extensively characterized by means of spectroscopy(Ramon, XRD) and microscopy(FE-SEM).

  • In the automobile industry, the various efforts to lower their industrial cost and enhance fuel efficiency have been made through process improvement or weight saving of automobile parts. Gear is one of significant parts of transmission, which is made by cast iron or alloy steel. It is expensive due to complex processing, inferior materials and large machining allowance. In this study, alternative gear cars oil which is based on fluid applications materials is produced by reducing surface induction hardening and carburizing hardened in production. And then, wear characteristic and mechanical properties such as hardness of the sintered alloy which is used as a substitute for small machining allowance is investigated.

  • An Ni-Al intermetallic coating has been produced by induction heating on mild steel. The effect of the induction heating conditions on the microstructure of the coating has been investigated. The reaction synthesis of the intermetallic compounds was promoted while increasing the heating rate and the holding time at reaction temperature. Especially, an NiAl phase corresponding to the initial composition of mixed powder was predominantly formed. However, the synthesis at low reaction temperatures occurred by solid state diffusion during the holding time and an Fe-Al reaction layer was formed at the interface with the substrate, regardless of the heating rate. The combustion synthesis of the intermetallic compound occurred at a temperature higher than 1023 K and resulted in an almost single phase NiAl structure.

  • Tungsten heavy alloys (W-Ni-Fe) play an important role in various industries because of their excellent mechanical properties, such as the excellent hardness of tungsten, low thermal expansion, corrosion resistance of nickel, and ductility of iron. In tungsten heavy alloys, tungsten nanoparticles allow the relatively low-temperature molding of high-melting-point tungsten and can improve densification. In this study, to improve the densification of tungsten heavy alloy, nanoparticles are manufactured by ultrasonic milling of metal oxide. The physical properties of the metal oxide and the solvent viscosity are selected as the main parameters. When the density is low and the Mohs hardness is high, the particle size distribution is relatively high. When the density is high and the Mohs hardness is low, the particle size distribution is relatively low. Additionally, the average particle size tends to decrease with increasing viscosity. Metal oxides prepared by ultrasonic milling in high-viscosity solvent show an average particle size of less than 300 nm based on the dynamic light scattering and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The effects of the physical properties of the metal oxide and the solvent viscosity on the pulverization are analyzed experimentally.

  • Mg and Mg-based alloys are regarded as strong candidate hydrogen storage materials since their hydrogen capacity exceeds that of known metal hydrides. One of the approaches to improve kinetic is addition of metal oxide. In this paper, we tried to improve the hydrogenation properties of Mg-based hydrogen storage composites. The effect of transition metal oxides, such as $Nb_2O_5$ on the kinetics of the Magnesium hydrogen absorption kinetics was investigated. $MgH_x$-5wt.% $Nb_2O_5$ composites have been synthesized by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying. The powder fabricated was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy (Fe-SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), BET and simultaneous Thermo Gravimetric Analysis / Differential Scanning Calorimetry (TG/DSC) analysis. The Absorption / desorption kinetics of $MgH_x$-5wt.% $Nb_2O_5$ (type I and II) are determined at 423, 473, 523, 573 and 623 K.
