  • Lanthanum-based transition metal cations containing perovskites have emerged as potential catalysts for the intermediate-temperature (600-800℃) oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here, we report a facile acetylacetone-assisted combustion route for the synthesis of nanostructured La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (LSCF6428) cathodes for intermediate-temperature solid-oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The as-prepared powder was analyzed by thermogravimetry analysis-differential scanning calorimetry. The powder calcined at 800℃ was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electrode microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements. It was found that the porosity of the air electrode significantly increased by utilizing the nanostructured LSCF6428 instead of commercial powder. The performance of a single cell fabricated with the nanostructured LSCF6428 cathode increased by 112%, from 0.4 to 0.85 W cm-2, at 700℃. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed a considerable reduction in the area-specific resistance and activation energy from 133.5 to 61.5 kJ/mol, resulting in enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward ORR and overall cell performance.

  • In this study, an oxygen plasma treatment was used as a low temperature debinding method to form a conductive copper feature on a flexible substrate using a direct printing process. To demonstrate this concept, conductive copper patterns were formed on polyimide films using a copper nanoparticle-based paste with polymeric binders and dispersing agents and a screen printing method. Thermal and oxygen plasma treatments were utilized to remove the polymeric vehicle before a sintering of copper nanoparticles. The effect of the debinding methods on the phase, microstructure and electrical conductivity of the screen-printed patterns was systematically investigated by FE-SEM, TGA, XRD and four-point probe analysis. The patterns formed using oxygen plasma debinding showed the well-developed microstructure and the superior electrical conductivity compared with those of using thermal debinding.

  • Single crystalline Cu nanowires with controlled diameters and aspect ratios have been synthesized using electrochemical deposition within confined nanochannels of a porous anodic aluminium oxide(AAO) template. The diameters of nano-sized cylindrical pores in AAO template were adjusted by controlling the anodization conditions. Cu nanowires with diameters of approximately 38, 99, 274 nm were synthesized by the electrodeposition using the AAO templates. The crystal structure, morphology and microstructure of the Cu nanowires were systematically investigated using XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and SAED. Investigation results revealed that the Cu nanowires had the controlled diameter, high aspect ratio and single crystalline nature.

  • Vertically oriented nickel nanowire arrays with a different diameter and length are synthesized in porous anodic aluminium oxide templates by an electrodeposition method. The pore diameters of the templates are adjusted by controlling the anodization conditions and then they are utilized as templates to grow nickel nanowire arrays. The nickel nanowires have the average diameters of approximately 25 and 260 nm and the crystal structure, morphology and microstructure of the nanowires are systematically investigated using XRD, FE-SEM and TEM analysis. The nickel nanowire arrays show a magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis parallel to the nanowires and the coercivity and remanence enhance with decreasing a wire diameter and increasing a wire length.

  • Chloride-based fluxes such as NaCl-KCl are used in the refining of Al melt. The vapor pressure of the chloride is one of the fundamental pieces of information required for such processes, and is generally high at elevated temperatures. In order to measure the vapor pressure for chlorides, the apparatus for the transpiration method was assembled in the present study. The vapor pressure of $ZnCl_2$ and $FeCl_2$, which is related with the process of aluminum refining and the recovery of useful elements from iron and steel industry by-products, was also measured. In the measurement of vapor pressure by the transpiration method, the powder of $ZnCl_2$ or $FeCl_2$ in a alumina boat was loaded in the uniform zone of the furnace with a stream of Ar. The weight loss of $ZnCl_2$ and $FeCl_2$ after holding was measured by changing the flow rate of Ar gas (10 sccm -230 sccm), and the partial pressures of $ZnCl_2$ and $FeCl_2$ were calculated. The partial pressures within a certain range were found to be independent of the flow rate of Ar at different temperatures. The vapor pressures were measured in the temperature range of 758-901K for $ZnCl_2$ and 963-983K for $FeCl_2$. The measured results agreed well with those in the literature.

  • The mesoporous metal organic framework structure Fe-BTC was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal process with noticeable yield. The synthesis operation was conducted at intermediate temperature and for shortened operation time as compared to conventional procedures. This process approach with reduced operating temperature and shortened operation time may open an opportunity window towards process economy with reduction in energy consumption. A simple mathematical approach of diffraction indexing using X-ray diffraction patterns of synthesized powder was employed to confirm its crystalline nature and to investigate its high temperature stability. The crystallite size was calculated by using Debye-Scherrer equation.

  • This study is based on a coating method that provides utilization value as a micronised powder for cosmetic raw materials using natural minerals buried in Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-do in Korea. The mineral powder name is called Buseok, and chemical name is pumice powder. The results of a study on the efficacy of cosmetics are reported by the development of particulate powder to assess the performance of this powder. First of all, in order to coat the surface of this powder with oil, aluminum hydroxide was coated on the particulate surface and then coated with alkylsilan. In addition, it was coated with vegetable oil to prevent condensation of the powder and increase the dispersion in the oil phase. First; the particle size of pumice powder was from 10 to 50mm having porous holes on the surface of the particles. Second; The components of this powder contained $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO, CaO, $K_2O_2$, $Na_2O$, $TiO_2$, $TiO_2$, MnO, $Cr_2O_3$, $V_2O_5$. Third: The particles of this powder have a planetary structure and are reddish-brown with porosity through SEM and TEM analysis. Fourth; the far-infrared radiation rate of this parabolic powder was $0.924{\mu}m$, and the radiative energy was $3.72{\times}102W/m^2$ and ${\mu}m$. In addition, the anion emission is 128 ION/cc, which shows that the coating remains unchanged. Based on these results, it is expected to be widely applied to basic cosmetics such as BB cream, cushion foundation, powderfect, and other color-coordinated cosmetics, sunblock cream, wash-off massage pack as an application of cosmetics. • Rare earth (RE) - transition metal based high energy density magnets are of immense significance in various engineering applications. $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ magnets possess the highest energy product and are widely used in whole industries. Simultaneously, composite alloys that are cheap, cost effective and strong commercially available have drawn great attention, because rare-earth metals are costly, less abundant and strategic shortage. We designed rare-earth free alloys and fabrication process and developed novel route to prepare $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ powders by wet process employing spray drying and reduction-diffusion (R-D) without the use of high purity metals as raw material. MnAl-base permanent magnetic powders are potentially important material for rare-earth free magnets. We have prepared the nano-sized MnAl powders by plasma arc discharge and micron-sized MnAl powders by gas atomization. They showed good magnetic property, compared with that from conventional processes. $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ powders with high coercivity of more than 10 kOe were successfully synthesized by adjusting R-D step, followed by precise washing system. It is considered that this process can be applied for the recycling of RE-elements extracted from ewaste including motors.

  • The polycrystalline sample of $Ba_2Co_{1.5}Mg_{0.5}Fe_{11.88}Ga_{0.12}O_{22}$ Y-type hexaferrite, doped with Ga-cation, was prepared by using the solid-state reaction method. The crystalline structure of sample was investigated by x-ray diffractometer (XRD), and the magnetic properties of sample were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrometer. The crystal structure of prepared sample was determined to be rhombohedral with space group R-3m. From the temperature dependence of the magnetization curves under 100 Oe between 4.2 and 740 K, two temperature-dependent magnetic transitions occurred in the $Ba_2Co_{1.5}Mg_{0.5}Fe_{11.88}Ga_{0.12}O_{22}$ sample. $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the sample were analyzed at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 620 K, and the $Ba_2Co_{1.5}Mg_{0.5}Fe_{11.88}Ga_{0.12}O_{22}$ sample showed abrupt changes in $H_{hf}$ and $E_Q$ at 200 K, indicating the spin transition effect. We have also determined the magnetic transition temperature $T_C$, in addition to the temperature dependent magnetization and ZVC measurements.
