Determinations of the compositioin ofl chinoform metal chelates by elemental analysis and molar ratio method showed that the ratios of the ligand to metals in chinoform Cu(II) chelate, chinofrm Ni (II) chelate, and chinoform CO(II) chelate were 2:1 respectively and that the ratio in chinoform Fe(III) chelate was 3:1. It was found that diffe rential thermal values vary with the center metalic ions and that the thermal stability was in anorder of Fe>Cu>Co>Ni. The indices of over-all stability constant of chinoform Cu(II) chelate, Ni(II) chelate, Co(II) chelate, and Fe(III) chelate were 15.57, 15.16, 15.40 and 20.76, respectively, and the over-all stability was in an order of Fe>Cu>Co>Ni. The tests of the natibacterial activity in vitro of the chinoform metal chelates against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC G538, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2131, Serratia marcescens 3357, Klebsiella pneumoniae 8899, Enterococcus 3309, Streptococcus pyogenes 507, and Escherichia coli 125 showed that the Cu(II) chelate generally had greater activity than chinoform, that it had four-fold activity particularly against Streptococcus pyogenes 507 and Staphylococcus awreus ATCC 6538, that the Ni(II) and Co(II) chelates had almost same activity, and that the Fe chelate had strong activity against Escherichia coli 125.
A new spectrophotometric method was established for the determination of undecylenic acid. The method is based on the solvent extraction into nitrobenzene of the ion pair formed between tris(1,10-phenanthroline)Fe(II) chelate and the anion of undecylenic acid. The maximum absorbance of the extract in the organic phase was at 518nm. A maximum extraction was obtained at pH 9-11, when excess of at least 50-fold(molar) of the phenanthroline-Fe(II) chelate to undecylenic acid was present. The color intensity of the extracted species remained constant at room temperature for the several hours after separation of the organic layer. A linear relationship was obtained over the tested range of 5-20${\gamma}$/ml of undecylenic acid. The effect of several other fungicids on this method was investigated. The method was applied to the determination of undecylenic acid in preparations and the results were in good agreement with those added amounts.
Nicotinamide Complex Compound was not formed in simple alkaline solution under two to one molar ratio of dimethyglyoxime and Fe (II), but it was formed with ammonia or pyridine under the same molar ratio. Based on this fact, nicotinamide solution was added into dimethyglyoxime-Fe (II) complex solution, and the chelation product was extracted with chloroform. The extraction was Completed in a range of pH 8.4-11.0. The chloroform solution shows stability and maximum absorption at 516 m${\mu}$.
For the colorimetric determination of Sulfa-drugs by means of solvent extraction, the sample solutions were added into dimethylglyoxime-Fe(II) complex solution, and extracted with pyridine-chloroform mixture (1:50) is a range of pH 7.5-8.5. The extracted solution shows stability and maximum absorption at 402m${\mu}$.
A broiler experiment was conducted to compare the effects of supplementary iron sources and levels on the iron content of broiler meat. Two hundred and fifty hatched Ross broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 5 dietary treatments. Each treatment had 5 replicates of 10 birds (5 males and 5 females). Birds were housed in raised floor batteries and fed traditional broiler diets ad libitum for 5 weeks. Dietary treatments were as follows: Control, Fe-Met 100 (100 ppm iron as Fe-methionine), Fe-Met 200, $FeSO_4$ 100 (100 ppm iron as $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$) and $FeSO_4\;200$. There were no significant differences among treatments in parameters related to production performance. Liver contained approximately 10 times more iron than the leg muscle which contained approximately 3 times more iron than either breast muscle or wing muscle. Significant differences in iron content in the broiler meat were observed. In the breast meat, Fe-Met treatments were significantly (p<0.05) higher than other treatments in iron content. In the leg meat, Fe-Met treatments and $FeSO_4\;200$ treatment were significantly higher than the control in iron content. In the wing muscle, Fe-Met 200 treatment was significantly higher than other treatments in iron content. Iron content in the liver was significantly influenced by source and supplementation level of iron. Fe-Met treatments were higher than $FeSO_4$ treatments and 200 ppm treatments were higher than 100 ppm treatments in iron content in the liver. It is concluded that iron-methionine chelate is more efficient than iron sulfate and 200 ppm iron supplementation as Fe-Met is recommended for maximum iron enrichment in broiler meat.
The acid gas removal (AGR) system was designed and installed to remove $H_2S$ in coal syngas in the pilot-scale coal gasification system for producing chemicals like Dimethyl Ether(DME). The syngas from the coal gasification at the rate of $100{\sim120$$Nm^3$/hr included pollutants such as fly ash. $H_2S$, COS, $NH_3$, etc. The designed temperature and pressure of the AGR system are below 50oC and 8 kg/$cm^2$. Fe-chelate was used as an absorbent. $H_2S$ was stably removed below 0.5 ppm in the AGR system when the concentration of $H_2S$ was $150{\sim}450$ ppm. The pH of Fe-chelate solution was also stably maintained between $8{\sim}9$. FeMgO absorbent was also tested to remove $H_2S$ in the lab-scale AGR system and $H_2S$ was also removed below 0.5 ppm in the initial operation.
Fe-EDTA complex, which is easily formed when Fe salt and EDTA.2Na are mixed in the aqueous medium, is found to be a very effective catalyst in the dehydropolycondensation of aminophenols. In the dehydropolycondensation of aminophenols, the catalyst, Fe(Ⅲ)-EDTA complex (higher oxidation state) is reduced to less stable Fe(Ⅱ)-EDTA complex (lower oxidation state), and the latter is easily oxidized by air to the original higher oxidation state complex, therefore the catalytic action of Fe-EDTA complex is found to be recycled effectively. Under the catalytic action of the above mentioned complex, p-aminophenol is polymerized in the aqueous medium to form the oligomers of p-aminophenol, which the degree of polymerization to be 5 or more. The oligomers formed contain partly quinone nucleus as well as amino and hydroxyl groups. In this study, the effects of the solvents and characteristics of the oligomers are discussed. These types of polymerizations catalyzed by the metallic chelate compounds are considered to be very closely related to the reactions in the living matters.
New ferrocene-based chelate amines, $Fe[C_5H_4CH(Me)NMe_2]_2\;(3), \;Fe[C_5H-3(CH(Me)NMe_2)(PPh_2)-1,2]_2\;(4),\;(C_5H_5)Fe(C_5H_3(CH_2NMe_2)(CH(CN)NMe_2-1,2)\;(6),\;and\;(C_5H_5)Fe(C_5H_3(CH_2NMe_2)(CH(Me)NMe_2-1,2)$ (7) have been prepared. The reaction and the coordination chemistry of 4 and other related compounds (S,R)-(1-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-2-dicyclohexylphosphino)ferrocene (CPFA) and 1,1'-bis-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (BPPF) with $Rh_2(OAc)_4(MeOH)_2$ were investigated. The reaction of the chiral ligand (S,R)-CPFA forms a complex of the type (${\eta}^1$-(S,R)-CPFA-P)$_2Rh_2(OAc)_4$ (8) in which the ligand is coordinated to both rhodium centers in a monodentate fashion through phosphorus. In contrast, the bisphosphine analogues such as BPPF and 4 afford chelate complexes of the type (${\eta}^2-PP)Rh_2(OAc)_4$ (9 & 10) where both ligands act as a chelate bidentate to a single rhodium atom. All these complexes were characterized by microanalytical and spectroscopic techniques. In one case, the structure of 8 was determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystals are monoclinic, space group C2 (No. 5), with a=26.389 (3), b=12.942 (1), c=11.825 (1) A, ${\beta}$=111.22(1)$^{\circ}$, V=3964.7 (8) $A^3$, Z=4, and $D_{calc}$=1.58 g $cm^{-3}$. Two Rh(II) centers are bridged by four $AcO^-$ groups in the ${\eta}^1$ : ${\eta}^1$ mode across a Rh-Rh single bond, and octahedral coordination at Rh(1) and Rh(1') is completed by axially coordinating (S,R)-CPFA and a briding $AcO^-$, respectively.
An experiment was conducted to investigate the efficiency of transfer of dietary iron sources to eggs of laying hens. Eighty ISA-Brown laying birds of 30 wk old were housed in 40 cages of 2 birds each. Eight birds in four cages were assigned to one of the following ten treatments: T1; control, T2; 100 ppm iron supplementation with iron-methionine chelate (Fe-Met-100), T3; Fe-Met- 200, T4; Fe-Met-300, T5; 100 ppm iron supplementation with iron sulfate ($FeSO_4$-100), T6; $FeSO_4$-200, T7; $FeSO_4$-300, T8; 100 ppm iron supplementation with Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ (Availa-Fe-100), T9; Availa-Fe-200 and T10; Availa-Fe-300. Results of 40 d feeding trial showed that there were no consistent responses in laying performance by source and level of iron supplementation. However, eggshell strength and color were improved by Fe supplementation. Egg iron content was maximized at 10-15 days after feeding supplemental Fe. Fe- Met was the most effective source in enriching Fe of eggs followed by Availa-Fe and $FeSO_4$. Increasing supplementary Fe level more than 100 ppm was not effective in Fe-Met and Availa-Fe treatments. Average Fe enrichment of 18% was achieved after feeding Fe-Met-100 for 15 d. In conclusion, enrichment of Fe in egg could be effectively achieved by supplementation of Fe-Met-100 for 15 d.

A broiler experiment was conducted to compare the effects of duration and level of iron-methionine chelate (Fe-Met) supplementation on the iron, copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) content of broiler meat. Two hundred and fifty hatched Ross broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 5 dietary treatments. Each treatment had 5 replicates of 10 birds (5 males and 5 females) each. Birds were housed in raised floor batteries and fed traditional broiler diets ad libitum for 5 weeks. Dietary treatments were as follows: Control and two levels of Fe-Met (100 or 200 ppm in Fe) supplemented for either the whole period (0-5 wk) or grower period (4-5 wk). Production performance was not significantly affected by treatments. Iron content in the muscles (breast, leg and wing) and organs (liver and spleen) were significantly (p<0.05) increased as the level and duration of Fe-Met supplementation increased. The highest concentration of iron was shown in Fe-Met 200 fed for the whole period. Liver contained the highest amount of iron followed by spleen, leg muscle, wing muscle and breast muscle. Supplementation of Fe-Met 200 for the grower period resulted in higher iron concentration in liver and spleen than supplementation of Fe-Met 100 for the whole period. However, the same treatment resulted in lower iron concentration in muscles (breast, leg and wing) than the treatment of Fe-Met 100 for the whole period. In order to achieve the highest iron enrichment in the muscles, Fe-Met should be supplemented at 200 ppm in Fe for the whole period (5 wks). Fe-Met supplementation increased copper concentration in all muscles and organs except wing muscle. Zinc concentration decreased in breast and wing muscle but tended to increase in leg muscle, liver and spleen by Fe-Met 200 supplementation. Color of muscle was not significantly affected by Fe-Met treatments. However, redness of leg and breast muscle, and yellowness of leg and breast muscle tended to increase by supplementation of Fe-Met for the whole period. It was concluded that iron content of broiler meat can be effectively enriched by supplementation of 200 ppm of Fe as Fe-Met for 5 wks.
