A study on Mossbauer Spectra of the $Ni_{1-x}Cd_xFeAlO_4$ system ($Ni_{1-x}Cd_xFeAlO_4$계의 Mossbauer 스펙트럼 연구)

  • The Mossbauer spectra of the $Ni_{1-x}Cd_xFeAlO_4$ system were investigated with the Cd content x at room temperature. The spectra of the samples exhibit various patterns as follows 1) superparmagnetic relaxation for 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.2, 2) ferrimagnetic sextet for 0.3$\leq$x$\leq$0.5, 3) ferromagnetic relaxation for x=0.6, 0.7, 4) paramagnetic doublet for 0.8$\leq$x$\leq$1, with the Cd content x. In the samples with x values from 0 to 0.2, the substituted $Cd^{2+}$ ions transfer the $Al^{3+}$ ions from A-site to B-site mainly. The superparamagnetic relaxation effect and the ferromagnetic relaxation effect are derived from the $Al^{3+}$, $Cd^{2+}$ respectively. The magnetic structure of the $Ni_{1-x}Cd_xFeAlO_4$ system was explained by the Yafet-Kittel model.

Soft Magnetic Property Analysis of Nanocrystalline Fe-Al-O Film with the Change of Microstructure (나노 결정립 Fe-Al-O 산화막의 미세구조 변화에 따른 연자기적 특성 분석)

  • We investigated the soft magnetic properties of nanocrystalline Fe-Al-O film as etching the oxide film with ion beam etching method. It is thought that the grain size of Fe-Al-O film increases as the thickness decreases. The coercivity and squareness increase with decreasing thickness. The surface curvature of Am images increases when the etching experiment proceeds. This phenomena could be due to the grain growth which occurs during sputtering. This grain growth could be assisted by the the plasma energy during sputtering. Therefore proper thickness should be searched to acquire the good soft magnetic properties for the nanocrystalline film material. Good soft magnetic properties of Fe-Al-O film was acquired at the thickness of more than 900 nm.

Neutron Diffraction and Mössbauer Studies of Superexchange Interaction on Al Substituted Co-ferrite (Al이 치환된 Co 페라이트에 관한 뫼스바우어 분광법 및 중성자 회절 연구)

  • Al substituted $CoAl_{0.5}Fe_{1.5}O_{4}$ has been studied with x-ray and neutron diffraction, $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy and magnetization measurements. $CoAl_{0.5}Fe_{1.5}O_{4}$ revealed a cubic spinel structure of ferrinmagnetic long range ordering at room temperature, with magnetic moments of $Fe^{3+}(A)(-2.29{\mu}_{B}),\;Fe^{3+}(B)(3.81\;{\mu}_{B}),\;Co^{2+}(B)(2.66{\mu}_{B})$, respectively. The temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine field in $^{57}Fe$ nuclei at the tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites was analyzed based on the $N\'{e}el$ theory of magnetism. In the sample of $CoAl_{0.5}Fe_{1.5}O_{4}$, the interaction A-B interaction and intrasublattice A-A superexchange interaction were antiferromagnetic with strengths of $J_{A-B}=-19.3{\pm}0.2k_{B}\;and\;J_{A-A}=-21.6{\pm}0.2k_{B}$, respectively, while the intrasublattice B-B superexchange interaction was found to be ferromagnetic with a strength of $J_{B-B}=3.8{\pm}0.2k_{B}$.

Preparation of M Type Hexa-Ferrite Using the Mill Scale (Mill Scale을 이용한 M형 Ferrite의 합성)

  • M type hexa-ferrites were prepared by means of a solid state reaction using mill scale, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and the mixture of mill scale and $Fe_{2}O_{3}$. The mixture of powders were calcined at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. and sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, with varing the mole ratio of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$/$BaCO_{3}$, by 5.2~6.0. And the magnetic properties and morphologies of Baferrites with impurities such as $SiO_{2},\;Al_{2}O_{3},\;MgO,\;CaO\;and\;Na_{2}O$ in the mill scale were investigated. The magnetic properties were worsened by the addition of $Na_{2}O because of non-reacted iron oxide and intermediate compound of $BaFe_{2}O_{4}$ but they were improved apparently by the addition of $Si_{2}$ and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in the composition of $BaO.5.6Fe_{2}O_{3}$. Moreover, $M_{s}$ decreased but $_{B}H_{C}$ increased through the addition of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in Ba-ferrite. ${(BH)}_{max}$ of sintered BM($BaCO_{3}$, mill scale mixture) and BFM($BaCO_{3}$, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and null scale mixture) were 0.86 and 1.04 MGOe, respectively, and the magnetic properties were changed around $440^{\circ}C$.

Effect of Al and Cr contents on the High Temperature Oxidation- and Sulfidation-resistance of Fe Alloys (Fe합금의 내 산화성과 황화성에 미치는 Al과 Cr 함량의 영향)

  • Alloys of Fe-(5, 10, 15)Al and Fe-(10, 20, 30, 40)Cr were corroded at 700 and $800^{\circ}C$ for 70 hr in either atmospheric air or 1 atm of Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases. In these atmospheres, Fe-5Al and Fe-10Cr alloys displayed poor corrosion resistance. In atmospheric air, Fe-5Al alloys formed oxide nodules, while Fe-10Cr alloys formed thick scales and internal oxides. In Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases, Fe-5Al and Fe-10Cr alloys formed thick, nonadherent bi-layered scales, which grew primarily by the outward diffusion of Fe ions and inward diffusion of oxygen and sulfur ions. By contrast, in atmospheric air and Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases, Fe-(10, 15)Al and Fe-(20, 30, 40)Cr alloys displayed good corrosion resistance by forming $Al_2O_3$ and $Cr_2O_3$ layers on the surface, respectively.

  • $Al_2TiO_5$ ceramics were sintered by a solid-state reaction. LAS (${\beta}$-spodumene) and $Fe_2O_3$ were added to the $Al_2TiO_5$ composition for enhancement of sintering behavior such as mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance. The sintered body was much densified by addition of LAS and $Fe_2O_3$ because LAS formed the liquid-phase and $Fe_2O_3$ suppressed the grain growth. We have systematically investigated the sintering characteristics, microstructures, mechanical properties, and thermal shock resistance according to the change of the amount of additive. When the additive of LAS (20 wt%)-$Fe_2O_3$ was added to $Al_2TiO_5$, it confirmed that superior mechanical properties of the fracture strength of over 120 MPa and the thermal shock resistance of over $1,200^{\circ}C$ were achieved.

  • ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrate were prepared by the oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ thin films processed by PECVD(Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) technique. The phase transformation of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films was mainly controlled by the substrate temperature and oxidation process of $Fe_3O_4$ phase. $Fe_3O_4$ phase was obtained at the deposition temperature of $200{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ phase could be transformed into ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ phase under controlled oxidation at $280{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ and ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ obtained by oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ phase had the same spinel structure and were coexisted. The oxidized ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin film on $Al_2O_3$ substrate showed a porous island structure.

Nano-Granular Co-Fe-AI-O Soft Ferromagnetic Thin Films for GHz Magnetic Device Applications

  • Co-Fe-Al-O nanogranular thin films were fabricated by RF-magnetron sputtering under an $Ar+O_2$ atmosphere. High resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed that the Co-Fe-Al-O films are composed of bcc (Co, Fe) nanograins finer than 5 nm and an Al-O amorphous phase. A very large electrical resistivity of $374{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ was obtained, together with a large uniaxial anisotropy field of 50 Oe, a hard axis coercivity of 1.25 Oe, and a saturation magnetization of 12.9 kG. The actual part of the relative permeability was measured to be 260 at low frequencies and this value was maintained up to 1.3 GHz. The ferromagnetic resonance frequency was 2.24 GHz. The resulting Co-Fe-Al-O nanogranular thin films with a high electrical resistivity and high resonance frequency are considered to be suitable for GHz magnetic device applications.

  • Nano sized FeAl intermetallic particles were successfully synthesized by plasma arc discharge pro-cess. The synthesized powders shouted core-shell structures with the particle size of 10-20 nm. The core was metallic FeAl and shell was composed of amorphous $AI_{2}O_{3}\;and\;a\;little\;amount\;of\;metallic\;Fe_{3}O_{4}.$ Because of the difference of Fe and Al vapor pressure during synthesis, the Al contents in the nanoparticles depended on the Al contents of master alloy.
