The efficiency of wastewater treatment using microalgae was investigated in this study, focusing on nutrients and flocculation. In the experiments for reducing nutrients by incubation of microalgae, the total phosphorus and total nitrogen were removed over 92 % and 99 %, respectively. The higher flocculation rates as the average values 94% of Poly Aluminum Chloride(PAC) and 92 % of $FeCl_3$ were presented for the flocculation experiments under the conditions of Auto-flocculation and various additives. Also, the optimal(minimal) concentrations for over 90 % of flocculation were 30 mg/L and 40 mg/L for PAC and $FeCl_3$, respectively.
This study was performed to investigate the removal characteristics of heavy metals in Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) using pellet-type Zeolite-StarFish ceramics (ZSF ceramics), in which natural zeolite and starfish were mixed and calcined with wood flour. Kinetic experiment showed the removal reaction of heavy metals by ZSF ceramics reached the equilibrium status within 3 hours. The optimal calcination temperature range for removal of heavy metals was measured to be $800{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$. The calcination time had little effect on the removal of heavy metal in AMD. The adequate dose of ceramics was shown to be 1.0~1.2 % for removal of heavy metals in AMD. High removal efficiencies of heavy metals (Al, As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn) in AMD, more than 95 % except for Pb, were obtained under the condition of dose of ceramics more than 1.0 %. The removal efficiencies of heavy metals increased with increasing mixing concentration of wood flour. The adequate mixing concentration of wood flour was observed to be 10 %. The batch experimental results exhibited that the ZSF ceramics could act as an efficient ceramics for removal of heavy metals in AMD and the wood flour could provide porous ZSF ceramics with enhanced removal efficiency of heavy metals.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the treatability of contaminated groundwater with TPH and (or) $Cr^{6+}$. Laboratory scale tests were performed for oil/water separation, dissolved air flotation (DAF), coagulation and precipitation, and filtration with sand and activated carbon respectively. Two times of oil/water separation tests for total 40 minutes of separation or separating time shows 90.2 % of TPH removal rate. In case of DAF test for high TPH sample, the TPH removal rates were not varied significantly by the variation of microbubble size. However, tests for low TPH samples show that TPH removal rate increases as microbubbles are smaller. When coagulant was added to sample for DAF test, TPH removal rate was increased 12.3 %. SS removal rate by DAF was 97.9 % at $16-40{\mu}m$ and it was increased as the size of microbubble is reduced. Tests for coagulation and precipitation were performed to evaluate the removal of $Cr^{6+}$ in groundwater. The increase of $FeSO_4$ dosage increased $Cr^{6+}$ removal rate in the coagulation and precipitation process. As the amount of activated carbon in the filter media increased TPH removal rate in the filtration process. SS removal rate by the filtration was 96.7 % similar to the results of DAF process tests. The filtration process treats TPH and SS. Best design parameters are determined as the size of sand is $425-850{\mu}m$ and the ratio of activated carbon and sand is 50:50.
$Si(100){\backslash}200nm$$SiO_2{\backslash}5nm$$Ta{\backslash}5nm$$MgO{\backslash}35nm$$Fe_3O_4$ multi-layers were prepared by using RF-sputtering and ultra-high vacuum molecular beam epitaxy (UHV-MBE) techniques. After post-annealing the multi-layers at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour under the high vacuum of ${\sim}1{\times}10^{-6}Torr$, we observed ferromagnetic properties at room temperature as well as the Verwey transition which is the typical features of magnetite crystals formed. We have carried out a comparative study of the effect of Ta buffered layer on the crystallinity and magnetic properties of $Fe_3O_4$ thin films prepared under different growth and annealing conditions.

Effect of interfacial electrical conditions on adhesion of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles to PET fabric and the removal of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles from PET fabric, were investigated as functions of pH, electrolyte and ionic strength. The ${\zeta}$ potential of PET fiber and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles in the electrolyte solution were measured by streaming potential and microelectrophoresis methods respectively. The potential energy of interaction between ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles and PET fabric were calculated by using the heterocoagulation theory for a sphere-plate model. The negative ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber increased with pH, and then decreased certain pH and isoelectric points of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles and PET fiber were pH 6.5 and pH 3.5, respectively. The negative ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber affected by electrolytes, were relatively high with polyanion electrolytes in solutions and were low with neutral salts. However, at surfactant solution, ${\zeta}$ potential was levelled off. The influence of the ionic strength on the ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle was small but the negative ${\zeta}$ potential of PET fiber increased with the ionic strength. In the presence of anionic surfactant, the ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber increased regardless of solution conditions. The interaction energy between ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fabric increased with pH. The interaction energy was relatively high with polyanion electrolytes in solution, and the influence of ionic strength on the interaction energy was small, and the effective thickness of electrical double layer increased with decreasing the ionic strength.

The $FeCl_3$ waste solution used to etch various metals contains valuable metal such as nickel. In this study, we recovered as high purity nickel carbonate crystalline powders from nickel-containing etching waste solution after regeneration of iron chloride. Firstly we eliminated about of the iron impurities under the condition of pH 4 using 5 % NaOH aqueous solution and then removed the remaining impurities such as Ca, Mn and Zn etc. by using solvent extractant D2EHPA (Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid). Thereafter, nickel carbonate powder having a purity of 99.9 % or more was obtained through reaction with sodium carbonate in a nickel chloride solution.

The zind bate contaminated in the hot dip galvannealed operation was successfully by appling the dross formation mechanism ; the Fe content was lowered from 0.028% to 0.011% and the dress size was decreased from 15~20$\mu\textrm{m}$ to under 3$\mu\textrm{m}$. The cooled metal from CGL zinc bath during operation of the galvannealed steel strip was remelted in graphite crucible at the lab and agitated after increasing Al content from 0.14% to 0.16% with decreasing the molten metal temperature from $470^{\circ}C$to $445^{\circ}C$. The agitating was done by agitator and nitrogen. The molten was analyed by SEM and EDS. It was considered that the Fe and the bottom dross($FeZN_7$) could react with aluminium to from the float dress($Fe_2Al_5$) according to the molten metal temperature down and the float dress rise to the surface of the zine bath. So the Fe and dross in the bath could be romoved out of the bath. It was confirmed that the proper purication conditions of GA zine bath is 0.02% of Al increasing, bath temperature down from $460^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$and agitator and nitrogen.

This study was performed to obtain optimal conditions for reduction of color in dye wastewaters using coagulation-sedimentation processes with redox reactions. The reduction of color as well as organic matters variation was observed after coagulation-sedimentation processes using FeSO$_4$ $\cdot$ 7H$_2$O and NaOCl. Coagulation-redox reaction was done with the dose of Coagulant and oxidant at various pH values. Redox reaction was done through jar-mixing and aeration. The results of study were as follows: 1. In the coagulation-sedimentation processes using FeSO$_4$ $\cdot$ 7H$_2$O, color reduction was heigher at pH 3. With variance of dosage of FeSO$_4$ $\cdot$ 7H$_2$O, color reduction was higher at 250 mg/l. When coagulation-sedimentation using FeSO$_4$ $\cdot$ 7H$_2$O 250 mg/l was added at pH 3, the reduction of color, COD$_{Mn}$, and COD$_{Cr}$ showed 47.6%, 21.3% and 22.1%, respectively. 2. When NaOCI was added at level of 100 ppm in raw wastewater at pH 3, the reduction of color, COD$_{Mn}$, and COD$_{Cr}$ showed 30.2%, 5.5% and 6.2%, respectively. 3. After coagulation-sedimentation processes by addition of FeSO$_4$ $\cdot$ 7H$_2$O, when NaOCl was added at level of 250 mg/l in supernant, color reduction was 47.8% in aeration and 37.5% in jar-mixing. 4. Color reduction by aeration was higher than that by jar-mixing.
Coagulation/precipitation process has been widely used for the removal of phosphate within domestic wastewater. Although Fe and Al are typical coagulants used for phosphate removal, these have some shortages such as color problem and low sedimentation velocity. In this study, both Fe and Al were used to overcome the shortages caused by using single one, and anionic polymer coagulant was additionally used to enhance sedimentation velocity of the precipitate formed. Batch experiments using a jar test were conducted with real wastewater, which was an effluent of the second sedimentation tank in domestic wastewater treatment plant. Response Surface Methodology was used to examine the responsibility of each parameter on phosphate removal as well as to optimize the dosage of the three coagulants. Economic analysis was also done on the basis of selling prices of the coagulants in the field. Phosphate removal efficiency of Fe(III) was 30% higher than those of Fe(II). Considering chemical price, optimum dosage for achieving residual phosphate concentration below 0.2 mg/L were determined to be 18.14 mg/L of Fe(III), 2.60 mg/L of Al, and 1.64 mg/L of polymer coagulant.
