  • This paper proposes techniques to diagnose short-circuit faults of both the diodes and power FET in switching mode power supply (SMPS) by using a simple analog tester. The diodes in full-bridge rectifier, power FET, switching transformer, and some sensors are modelled with resistor. The total resistance value measured at the input terminal of a SMPS is analyzed when the short-circuit faults of diodes in a full bridge rectifier or power FET are occurred. The short-circuit faults of one or two diodes in a full bridge rectifier, power FET, and both the diodes in a full bridge rectifier and power FET can be detected by a range of total resistance, which is measured by the analog tester. Through experiments, the theoretical analysis for total resistance under short-circuit faults can be verified.

  • This paper describes the control methods to cut out the NFB(No Fuse Breaker) of shorted load in the auxiliary power supply, Generally, when the short-circuit occurs in the load of the auxiliary power supply, the auxiliary power supply stops the operation according to the protection sequence. Finally, the other auxiliary power supply stops the operation by the same fault, To resolve this problem, we suggest the control method to trip the NFB of shorted load. That is, when the short circuit occurs, the controller changes control mode from voltage mode to current mode without the operation of output contactor(SIVK) in the auxiliary power supply. The auxiliary power supply provides a large current for the short-circuit load. After some time, the NFB of the short-circuit load is cut off and the auxiliary power supply Provides stable voltage for the loads except for the short-circuit load.

  • We interpreted the evolutionary history of the southwestern part of the Pohang Basin, the largest Miocene basin in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, based on the detailed geological mapping and analysis of the geological structures. The southwestern part of the Pohang Basin can be divided into the Bomun Domain in the west and Ocheon Domain in the east by an NNE-trending horst-in-graben. These two domains have different geometries and deformation histories. The Bomun Domain was rarely deformed after the incipient extension of the basin, whereas the Ocheon Domain is an area where continued and overlapped deformations occurred after the basin fill deposition. Therefore, the Bomun Domain provides critical information on the initial extension mode of the Pohang Basin. The subsidence of the Bomun Domain was led by the zigzag-shaped western border fault that consists of NNE-striking normal and NNW-striking dextral strike-slip fault segments. This border fault is connected to the Yeonil Tectonic Line (YTL), a regional dextral principal displacement zone and the westernmost limit of Miocene crustal deformation in SE Korea. Therefore, it is interpreted that the Pohang Basin was initially extended in WNW-ESE direction as a transtensional fault-termination basin resulting from the movement of NNE-striking normal and/or oblique-slip faults formed as right-stepover in the northern termination of the YTL activated since approximately 17-16.5 Ma. As a result, an NNE-trending asymmetric graben or half-graben exhibiting an westward deepening of basin depth was formed in the Bomun Domain. Afterward, crustal extension and deformation were migrated to the east, including the Ocheon Domain.

  • Recently software security of the smart phone is an important issue in the field of information science and technology due to fast propagation of smart technology in our life. The smart phone as the security critical systems which are utilizing in terminal systems of the banking, ubiquitous home management, airline passengers screening, and so on are related to the risk of costs, risk of loss, risk of availability, and risk by usage. For the security issues, software hazard analysis of smart phone is the key approaching method by use of observed failures. In this paper, we propose an efficient integrative framework for software security analysis of the smart phone using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to gain a convergence security and reliability analysis technique on hand handle devices. And we discuss about that if a failure mode effect analysis performs simpler, not only for improving security but also reducing failure effects on this smart device, the proposed integrative framework is a key solution.

  • In this paper, a novel test method is proposed to detect the hard and soft fault in analog circuits. The proposed test method makes use of the offset voltage, which is one of the op-amps characteristics. During the test mode, CUT is modified to unit gain op-amps with feedback loop. When the input of the op-amp is grounded, a good circuit has a small offset voltage, but a faulty circuit has a large offset voltage. Faults in the op-amp which cause the offset voltage exceeding predefined range of tolerance can be detected. In the proposed method, no test vector is required to be applied. Therefore the test vector generation problem is eliminated and the test time and cost is reduced. In this note, the validity of the proposed test method has been verified through the example of the dual slope A/D converter. The HSPICE simulations results affirm that the presented method assures a high fault coverage.

  • In this study, a new fault tolerant controller based on a model following adaptive technique is applied to the reconfiguration mode of supersonic advanced trainer. The designed controller is applied to the flight control system of high performance aircraft. To verify the performance of the proposed controller, numerical simulations are executed using a non-realtime nonlinear verification tool.

  • Due to rapid development of mobile device technologies, the mobile banking through Internet has become a major service of banking information systems as a security-critical information systems. Recently, lots of mobile banking information systems which handle personal and transaction information have been exposed to security threats in vulnerable security control and management processes, mainly software systems. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a process model for software security improvements in mobile banking information system by application of fault tree analysis(FTA) and failure modes and effects analysis(FMEA) on the most important activities such as 'user authentication' and 'access control' and 'virus detection and control' processes which security control and management of mobile banking information systems are very weak.

  • Fixed speed wind turbine generators system that uses induction generator as a wind generator has the stability problem similar to a synchronous generator. On the other hand, doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) has the flexibility to control its real and reactive powers independently while being operated in variable speed mode. This paper focuses on a scheme where IG is stabilized by using DFIG during grid fault. In that case, DFIG will be heavily stressed and a remedy should be found out to protect the frequency converter as well as to allow the independent control of real and reactive powers without loosing the synchronism. For that purpose, a crowbar protection switch or DC-link protecting device can be considered. This paper presents a comparative study between two protective schemes, a crowbar circuit connected across the rotor of the DFIG and a protective device connected in the DC-link circuit of the frequency converter. Simulation analysis by using PSCAD/EMTDC shows that both schemes could effectively protect the DFIG, but the latter scheme is superior to the former, because of less circuitry involved.

  • A new on-line fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme has been proposed for engines using an adaptive neural network classifier; this paper investigates the robustness of this scheme by evaluating in a wide range of operational modes. The neural classifier is made adaptive to cope with the significant parameter uncertainty, disturbances, and environmental changes. The developed scheme is capable of diagnosing faults in the on-line mode and can be directly implemented in an on-board diagnosis system(hardware). The robustness of the FDI for the closed-loop system with crankshaft speed feedback is investigated by testing it for a wide range of operational modes, including robustness against fixed and sinusoidal throttle angle inputs, change in load, change in an engine parameter, and all changes occurring simultaneously. The evaluations are performed using a mean value engine model(MVEM), which is a widely used benchmark model for engine control system and FDI system design. The simulation results confirm the robustness of the proposed method for various uncertainties and disturbances.
