  • 93% of road traffic accidents result from drivers' fault and Korea has the largest number of deaths from traffic accidents among the OECD members. For this reason, the country is measuring Traffic Culture Index (TCI) in each city, gun and gu annually to improve traffic safety policies and promote safety consciousness, but the influencing relation between TCI and actual traffic accidents is only based on the assumptions and no verification has been carried out, yet. Therefore, this study aims to verify if in reality, TCI represents the traffic culture level and has an influencing relation with traffic accidents and to suggest an improvement plan of research on the present state of TCI, based on the result. For this purpose, bases on data of the report about the present state of TCI from 2010 to 2012, and the influencing relation between the number of traffic accidents and the number of deaths from traffic accidents was analyzed through structural equation model. For influencing relation analysis through structural equation, research 1 to analyze the relation among TCI in each city, gun and gu, the number of traffic accidents and the number of deaths, and research 2 to analyze the influencing relation of the increase in TCI, the number of traffic accidents and the number of deaths were carried out. When verifying the influencing relation with traffic accidents through structural equation, the goodness of fit of the model was low in research 1 and as TCI increased, the number of accidents and deaths decreased in research 2 and thus the effect of TCI was verified.

  • Rock masses at the site for the $2^{nd}$ step construction of the KAERI Underground Research Tunnel (KURT) are divided into six units to establish a rock mechanics model that is dependent on the geological characteristics and degree of joint development. The site primarily consists of three granitic units (G1, G2, and G3), two dykes (D1 and D3), and a fault zone of poor rock mass quality (F3). The F3 unit crosses the tunnel at the beginning of the site of $2^{nd}$ step construction. The rock masses of each unit are classified by RMR (Rock Mass Rating), Q-system, and RMi (Rock Mass Index), all based on borehole logging data. The deformation modulus, rock mass strength, cohesion, and friction angle for each unit are calculated using established empirical relationships. The representative rock mass classification and geotechnical parameters for the rock mass units are established, and a rock mechanics model for the site is proposed, which will be useful in the design and stability analysis of the $2^{nd}$ step construction of KURT.

  • Software reliability in the software development process is an important issue. Software process improvement helps in finishing with reliable software product. Infinite failure NHPP software reliability models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this study, reliability software cost model considering shape parameter based on life distribution from the process of software product testing was studied. The cost comparison problem of the Lomax distribution reliability growth model that is widely used in the field of reliability presented. The software failure model was used the infinite failure non-homogeneous Poisson process model. The parameters estimation using maximum likelihood estimation was conducted. For analysis of software cost model considering shape parameter. In the process of change and large software fix this situation can scarcely avoid the occurrence of defects is reality. The conditions that meet the reliability requirements and to minimize the total cost of the optimal release time. Studies comparing emissions when analyzing the problem to help kurtosis So why Kappa efficient distribution, exponential distribution, etc. updated in terms of the case is considered as also worthwhile. In this research, software developers to identify software development cost some extent be able to help is considered.

  • The 2017 Pohang Earthquakes occurred near a drill site in the Pohang Enhanced Geothermal System. Water injected for well stimulation was believed to have reactivated the buried near-critically stressed Miocene faults by the accumulation of the Quaternary tectonic strain. However, surface expressions of the Quaternary tectonic activity had not been reported near the epicenter of the earthquakes before the site construction. Unusual, large-scale water-escaped structures were identified 4 km away from the epicenter during a post-seismic investigation. The water-escaped structures comprise Miocene mudstones injected into overlying Pleistocene coastal sediments that formed during Marine Isotope Stage 5. This indicates the vulnerable state of the mudstones long after deposition, resulted from the combined effects of rapid tectonic uplift (before significant diagenesis) and the development of an aquifer at their unconformable interface of the mudstone. Based on the detailed field analysis and consideration of all possible endogenic triggers, we interpreted the structures to have been formed by elevated pore pressures in the mudstones (thixotropy), triggered by cyclic ground motion during the earthquakes. This interpretation is strengthened by the presence of faults 400 m from the study area, which cut unconsolidated coastal sediment deposited after Marine Isotope Stage 5. Geological context, including high rates of tectonic uplift in SE Korea, paleo-seismological research on Quaternary faults near the study area, and historical records of paleoearthquakes in SE Korea, also support the interpretation. Thus, epicenter and surrounding areas of the 2017 Pohang Earthquake are considered as a paleoseismologically active area, and the causative fault of the 2017 Pohang Earthquakes was expected to be nearly critical state.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of four granitic masses and clanfy for the origin and relationship among the masses. These granitic rocks are distributed in the eastern part of Yangsan fault in the Kyongsang basin, southeastern part of Korea. Based on the mineralogy and texture, the granitic rocks are divided into three facies; granodiorite, porphyritic fine-grained granite, and equigranular granite. According to the result of modal analysis, northern part and most of the southern part of Daebon granitic rocks are plotted in granodiorite field and the rest part of the xocks are plotted in granite field. These granitic rocks belong to the sub-alkaline series, and are subdivided into calc-alkaline series. The rare earth elements normalized bv chondrite show LREE is more enriched than HREE and the lowest values in O-w m- i t e and Daebon equigranular granite. The crystallization pressures and temperatures of minimum melt compositions of granitic rocks estimated from the study area are about 0.5-1 kbar and $700~820^{\circ}C$, respectively. Referring to the petrographic characteristics, geochemical data and radiogenic age data, Oyu granite was emplaced in the Paleocene, but Daebon granodiorite, Sanseo porphyritic granite, and Hoam equigranular granite are co-magmatic differentiation products, were emplaced in the Eocene.

  • Rock mass includes natural discontinuities such as joints and faults during its formation. Discontinuities are also referred as planes of weakness because of their weak mechanical characteristics. In the design of underground structures, it is necessary to consider the properties of discontinuities to insure the stability. During the excavation of a tunnel, these discontinuities have to be identified as early as possible so that proper change in excavation method or support design can be made accordingly. The excavation of the tunnel in a stable rock mass causes a 3-dimensional arching effect around the excavation face. It was revealed by previous studies that the existence of a weak zone or a fault zone ahead of tunnel foe induces a typical displacement tendency of convergence. For better understanding of the meaning of influence/trend lines of various displacement components, three-dimensional numerical analyses were conducted while varying deformation moduli, thicknesses and orientations of discontinuities. Numerical results showed that the changes in influence/trend lines of various displacement components were very similar to those by measurements. The discrepancies from the expected values were dependent on the physical properties, thicknesses and orientations of discontinuities.

  • Typical MLC NAND flash devices are considered less reliable than SLC NAND flash devices. Although raw bit error rate (RBER) of MLC flash had been considered approximately 1000times or more higher than that of SLC flash, recent research conducted on Google's data center shows that it is much lower than such expectation. Based on the research, we devised In Drive Data Duplication (IDDD) scheme that efficiently exploit MLC flash's sufficient capacity to improve its data reliability without structural complexity increment using SSD intrinsic firmware layer, and showed the data reliability expectation of MLC flash could be significantly higher than that of SLC flash from measured and calculated error rates. Even though RBER of SLC flash was lower than that of MLC flash in 44 out of 48 cases we studied, applying IDDD scheme, RBER of MLC flash was became lower than that of SLC in all 48 cases and uncorrectable bit error rate (UBER) of MLC flash was became lower than that of SLC flash in 45 out of 48 cases.

  • The aim in this study is used to develop the remediation technologies for contaminated ground water. Slug, single well pumping and step-drawdown tests have been used to obtain hydraulic parameter estimates in the field. Slug tests yield hydraulic conductivity values using the Bouwer and Rice and C-B-P analysis methods. The mean and median hydraulic conductivity values of Bouwer and Rice method are $4.48{\times}10^{-3}$ and $1.16{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$, respectively. On the other hand, C-B-P method gave mean and median hydraulic conductivity values of $2.37{\times}10^{-3}$ and $7.09{\times}10^{-4}cm/sec$, respectively. These analyses show a trend for the Bouwer and Rice method to yield lower hydraulic conductivity values in low permeability zones of granite in the study area. Sing well pumping test data were calculated through type curve in GW7, GW12 and MW9 wells. It could be interpreted that the differences of hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity values between GW7 and GW12, MW9 is related with fault clays and fractures in the bedrock among the wells. Step-drawdown tests were carried out in the KDPW1 and KDPW2 wells. The hydraulic parameter of KDPW1 and KDPW2 showed very litter difference between the values. The study of hydraulic parameter estimates can be used to purify in contaminated groundwater.

  • English contract law has traditionally taken the view that it is not the duty of the parties to a contract to give information voluntarily to each other. In English law, one of the principal distinctions between insurance contract law and general contract law is the existence of the duty of disclosure in insurance law. This article is, therefore, designed to analyse the scope or extent of the duty of disclosure and the remedy for breach of the duty in English marine insurance law. The main purpose of this article is also to seek the alternative remedy for the breach. The results of analysis are as following : First, the scope of the duty of disclosure is closely related to the test of materiality and the concept of a hypothetical prudent insurer. The assured is required to disclose only material circumstances subject to MIA 1906, s. 18(1). The test of materiality, which had caused a great deal of debate in English courts over 30 years, was finally settled by the House of Lords in Pan Atlantic and the House of Lords rejected the 'decisive influence' test and the 'increased risk' test, and the decision of the House of Lords is thought to accept the 'mere influence' test in subsequent case by the Court of Appeal. Secondly, an actual insurer is, in order to avoid contract, required to provide proof that he is induced to enter into the contract by reason of the non-disclosure of the assured. But this subjective test of actual inducement is somewhat meaningless in sense that English court takes the test of materiality as a starting point and assumes the presumption of inducement even in case of no clear proof on the inducement. Finally, MIA 1906, s. 18 provides expressly for the remedy of avoidance of the contract for breach of the duty of disclosure. This means rescission or retrospective avoidance of the entire contract, and the remedy is based upon a fairly crude 'all-or-nothing' approach. The remedy of rescission is too draconian from the point of view of the assured, because he can be deprived of all cover despite he is innocent perfectly. An inadvertent breach from an innocent mistake is as fatal as wilful concealment. What is, therefore, needed in English marine insurance law with respect to remedy for the breach is to introduce a more sophisticated or proportionate remedy ascertaining degrees of fault.

  • Navigation lights used in supersonic aircraft are used to identify the direction and location of the aircraft. The color of the navigation lights and location of installation are defined by aviation law as red for the left wing, green for the right wing, and white for the tail. Navigation lights operate in BRT and DIM modes. BRT is the brightest mode, and DIM is an output with dimmed brightness. Navigation lights serve to prevent aircraft collisions and are very important for stability and location identification. One phenomenon is that the inlet and tail navigation lights flicker abnormally. In this study, fault tree analysis was performed in two stages. The first step was derived from three causal factors, the second step developed five improvements, and the optimal improvement plan was drawn. The navigation lights confirmed that the initial input power was unstable as the main cause of abnormal flickering. As an improved method, the circuit was adjusted to stabilize the initial power, and it was confirmed that flickering did not occur as a result of the tests under the same conditions.
