Split Tension Fatigue Characteristics Analysis of Fatigue Tests Data for Concrete Pavements (콘크리트 포장 피로실험 데이터의 쪼갬인장 피로특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the fatigue test data of pavement concrete. The static strength tests were carried out to check the compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tension strength at 56 days in order to minimize strength variation effect during test. The specimens were fabricated at twelves sections at a construction site of highway. The stress level and stress ratio of fatigue test were determined from static test results. The results are as follow: The flexural strength at 28 days mostly satisfied the criterion for design, but the compressive strength at 28 days were slightly below the criterion even though it satisfied at 56 days. The fatigue limit was 2 million cycles if the specimen was not failed to that cycles. The S-N curves were developed from the fatigue test results at each stress levels and each stress ratio. Then, the fatigue life of pavement concrete at a given stress level and fatigue strength of pavement concrete could be derived from these curves. Analysis using method No.2 was more acceptable because resulting of comparison and analysis using method No.2 was presented 2 sections were presented $R^2$ < 0.7, and other 2 sections were presented 0.7 < $R^2$ < 0.8, and the others 8 sections were $R^2{\geq}0.8$.

A Study for the Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of Concrete (콘크리트의 피로균열 성장거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the wedge splitting test (WST) specimens with various strength levels were tested to investigate the fatigue crack growth behavior of concrete. Selected test variables were concrete compressive strength with 2 levels (28 MPa, 60 MPa, 100 MPa) and maximum fatigue loading with 2 levels (75%, 85%). Fatigue testing was preceded by fracture energy test and the crack growth was measured by means of the compliance calibration method, 60 WST specimens were cast for the fatigue test, and 6 companion cylinders ($\phi$100${\times}$ 200 mm) for each batch. In fatigue test, the frequency of loading cycle was 1 Hz, and the minimum fatigue loading level was 5~10 % of ultimate monotonic loading. On the basis of the experimental results, a fracture mechanics-based empirical relationships for fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN-$\Delta$KI relationships) were presented. In addition, the effect of initial notch depth on the fracture energy and the validity of compliance calibration technique for the WST were shown.

  • Purpose : This paper is a comparative analysis results of the fatigue test for dental implants and accelerated life test by using a static type loading device commonly used in Korea and a dynamic type loading device (universal-joint) recommended by FDA. Methods : Fatigue tests of dental implant is based on ISO 14801 and classified into static load test and dynamic load test. The tests were carried out on three test specimens by four load stress steps under each loading device. For analysis on failure mode such as crack, fracture and permanent deformation of test specimens, we used X-ray three-dimensional computed tomography on test specimens before and after the fatigue tests. The design of the accelerated life test was based on the analysis results of the fatigue life data obtained from the dynamic load test and the statistical analysis software (Minitab ver.15) was used to analyze the appropriate life distribution. Results : As a result of the fatigue tests and the accelerated life tests at same acceleration condition under each test method, the fatigue life under the dynamic type loading device (universal-joint) was shorter than when static type loading device was applied. Conclusion : This paper can be used as a reference when the universal-joint type loading device for implants fatigue test is applied as ISO 14801.

  • Unlike general carbon steel, stainless steel's mechanical properties change depending on the content of chromium and nickel. In this study, since stainless steel for high-temperature pressure container parts is used as shafts, the fatigue strength and fatigue limit of the materials were evaluated using a rotational bending fatigue test. Meanwhile, fatigue analysis was conducted under the same conditions as the specimen for structural analysis and fatigue analysis of stainless steel for high-temperature pressure container parts. Using the fatigue analysis results, we tried to derive the life of the material and the safety factor for each part. As a result of performing a fatigue test by processing a specimen for the fatigue test of A182 F6A stainless steel, the fatigue limit was 548 MPa. The ratio between the tensile strength and fatigue limit of the material was 0.545, representing 54.5% of the tensile strength.

  • This paper explains the fatigue test procedure of a composite train carbody. The composite carbody with length of 23m was manufactured as a sandwich structure composed of a 40mm-thick aluminium honeycomb core and 5mm-thick woven fabric carbon/epoxy face. In order to evaluate fatigue strength of the composite carbody, the carbody will be excited by two 50-ton capacity hydraulic actuators. The excitation frequency will be measured by natural frequency evaluation test under full weight condition. The test The fatigue test is to be conducted For $2{\times}10^6$cycles. During the fatigue test, the nondestructive tests using X-ray and liquid penetrant will be performed. From crack detection tests, the location and Fatigue crack progress will be investigated.

  • This paper described that rotating test and fatigue test of a small-scale hingeless hub system with composite rectangular blades. Generally Rotating stability and fatigue test technique is one of Key-technology on test and evaluation for helicopter rotor system Rotating test of hingeless rotor system was achieved by means of rotor vibration characteristic and aeroelastic stability test GSRTS, equipped with hydraulic actuator and 6-component rotating balance was used to test hingeless rotor system especially for an observation of blade motion including flawing, lagging and feathering. Rotating test was done in hover and forward flight condition. Small-scaled blade fatigue test condition was determined by blade load analysis with the reference table of composite materials(S-N curve). Fatigue test bench was developed for the estimation of blade fatigue life, and tested its characteristic.

  • In this study, to evaluate fatigue characteristics of developed composite bridge deck, compression fatigue test at girder support and flexural fatigue test for the 2.8m-long flexural test model were carried out. For the test specimen, DB 24 truck load was applied up to 2,000,000 cycles. In the compression fatigue test, behavior at deck tube and its bonded connection were evaluated. In the flexural fatigue test, deck behavior at mid-span and girder connection were evaluated.

A Study on the Fatigue Behavior of Resistance Spot Welded Part of 5182 Aluminum Aloy Sheet (5182 Al합금판의 전기저항 점용접부 피로거동에 관한 연구)

  • On this study, the variations of hardness and microstructure were observed at he spot-welded part of 5182 alminum alloy sheets with thickness of 1.2 mm. The hardness of spot-welded part of aluminum alloy indicated the lowest value at nugget center. Also, the position where fatigue crack exists was investigated by surveying microstructure of the spot-welded sections. Mean load-deformation diagrams were obtained from static tensile test. Fracture was occurred completely within 5 mm after transforming elastic into plastic area. Fatigue test was stopped when the specimens of fatigue test had the final displacement of 0.2mm and measured fatigue bending angle and crack length. This study utilized them, investigated the relations between fatigue bending angle and fatigue crack length and made a estimation of the fatigue fracture life of resistance spot welded part of 5182 aluminum alloy sheet. The relative equation o fatigue crack length and fatigue failure life can be represented by {TEX}$L_{C}${/TEX}=α{TEX}$N_{f}^ {β}${/TEX}.

  • A research for application of LDSMC(Low Density Sheet Molding Compound) composite is in progress for lightening the weight. This paper has performed fatigue test and simulation of external panel for Korean commercial vehicle. Before the fatigue test, static test was carried out. From the test, the structural safety was investigated using Goodman diagram. After the static test performance, the fatigue test was conducted at a range of load frequency 5Hz, a stress ratio(R) of 0.05 and an endurance limit of $10^6$ to obtain the S-N curve. The S-N curve is applied to the fatigue analysis of the external panel assembly. The result of FEM analysis was in accord with the experimental result within 83% confidence. It showed that the process to set up the safety range of allowable error is required in process of the design and simulation verification.
