This study investigates the durability of a two-passenger bicycle frame under non-uniform fatigue load. The bicycle frame of Model 1 installed with reinforcement support has a 20% lower maximum equivalent stress than the existing Model 2. Model 1 has a maximum total deformation that is less than half that of Model 2. Model 1 has a higher maximum fatigue life than Model 2. In addition, Model 1 has lower fatigue damage than Model 2. Thus, the bicycle frame of Model 1 installed with reinforcement support can be described as safer, as it offers more strength than Model 2. Applying this result to the design of a real two-passenger bicycle frame under non-uniform fatigue load can effectively prevent fatigue damage and improve durability.
The fatigue damage caused by wide band loadings has generally been predicted using fatigue damage models in the frequency domain rather than a rain-flow counting method in the time domain because of its computation cost. This study showed that these fatigue damage models can be simplified in the form of normalized fatigue damage as a function of the S-N curve slope and bandwidth parameters. Based on numerical simulations of various wide band spectra, it was found that fatigue damage models in the form of normalized fatigue damage with one S-N curve slope and two bandwidth parameters( α1 , α2 ) provided less reasonable fatigue damage. Therefore, an additional bandwidth parameter needs to be considered based on a sensitivity study using various neural networks, which proved that α1-5 would be the dominant factor of a fatigue damage model as an additional bandwidth parameter.
During fatigue loading of composite materials, damage accumulation can be monitored by measuring their material properties. In this study, fatigue modulus is used as the damage index. Fatigue life of composite materials may be predicted analytically using damage models which are based on fatigue modulus and resultant strain. Damage models are propesed as funtions of applied stress level, number of fatigue cycle and fatigue life. The predicted life was comparable to the experimental result obtained using E-glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin materials and pultruded glass fiber reinforce polyester composites under two-stress level fatigue loading.

In this study, the prediction of the fatigue life as well as the extimation of the characteristics of fatigue cumulative damage on GFRP under random loading were performed. The constant amplitude tests and the ramdom loading test were carried on notched GFRP specimens with a circular hole. Random waves were generated with a micro-computer and had wide band spectra. Since it is useful that the prediction of fatigue life ot the given load sequences is based on S-N curves under constant amplitude loading, the estimation of equivalent stress is done on every random waves. The equivalent stress wasat first estimated by Miner's rule and then by the proposed model which was based on Hashin-Rotem's comulative damage theory regarding nonlinear fatigue cumulative damage behavior. The fatigue lives were predicted from each equivalent stress evaluated. And each predicted fatigue llife was compared with experimental results. The number of cycles of random loads were counted by mean-cross counting method. The reuslts showed that the fatigue life predicted by proposed model was correlated well with the experimental results in comparison with Miner's model.

This paper presents the fatigue behavior of composite materials with impact-induced damage under 2 level block loading. For this purpose, the 2 level block loading fatigue tests were performed on the impacted composite laminate. The fatigue life of the laminate under the block loading is greatly influenced by the impact damage; the effect of impact damage can be characterized by the present impact damage parameter. Based on this parameter, the model is developed to predict the fatigue life under block loading and the results by this model agree well with experimental results regardless of applied impact energy. Also, stochastic model is established to describe the variation of cumulative damage behavior and fatigue life due to the material nonhomogeneity.

For mechanical system operating at high temperature, damage due to the interaction effect of creep and fatigue plays an important role. The objective of this paper is to develop a modified creep-fatigue damage model which separately analyzes the pure creep damage for hold time and the creep-fatigue interaction damage during startup and shutdown period. The creep damage was calculated by the general creep damage equation and the creep-fatigue interaction damage was calculated by the modified equation which is based on the frequency modified strain range method with strain rate term. In order to verify the proposed model, a service of high temperature low cycle fatigue tests were performed. The test specimens were made from inconel-718 superalloy and the test parameters were wave shape and hold time. A good agreement between the predicted lives based on the proposed model and experimentally obtained ones was observed.

Due to their intrinsic anisotropy, composite materials show quite complicated damage mechanism with their fiber orientation and stacking sequence and especially, their fatigue damage process is sequential occurrence of matrix cracking, delamination and fiber breakage. In the study, to propose new model capable of describing damage mechanism under fatigue loading, fatigue analysis of composite laminates based on damage mechanics, are performed. The average stress is disassembled with stress components of matrix, fiber and interlaminar interface through stress analysis. Each stress components are used to assess static damage analysis based on continuum damage mechanics (C.D.M.). Fatigue damage curves are obtained from hysteresis loop and assessed by the fatigue damage analysis. Then, static and fatigue damage analysis are combined. Expected results such as stress-cycle relation are verified by the experimental results of fatigue tests.

Stress and deformation on forklift happened at loading, unloading or moving freight are studied by structural and fatigue analysis in this study. As model 1 as closing type between forks has lower stress and stain than model 2 at opening type, model 1 has more durability than model 2. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load at model 1 and 2, maximum life is shown with Cycle. Minimum damage with 854 at model 2 becomes much higher than model 1. As the gap between forks becomes open, the damage probability becomes higher. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the safe and stable design of forklift by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

Fatigue life prediction of pressure vessel is studied analytically using cumulative damage models and linear elastic fracture mechanics method. The stresses are analyzed by finite element method. During operation, the maximum stress occurs at the outside of neck region while fatigue analysis indicates that the bottom of nozzle part has the shortest fatigue life. Previously proposed fatigue life prediction equation and cumulative damage model are modified successfully by introducing reference fatigue modulus. It is found that the modified life prediction equation and damage model are useful for lower stress level application.

In general, the scattler is observed in fatigue test data due to the nonhomogeneity of a material. Consequently. It is necessary to use the statistical method to describe the fatigue crack growth process precisely. Bogdanoff and Kozin suggested and developed the B-model which is the probabilistic models of cumulative damage using the Markov process in order to describe the damage process. But the B-model uses only constant probability ratior(r), so it is not consistent with the actual damage process. In this study, the r-decreasing model using a monotonic decreasing function is introduced to improve the B-model. To verify the model, thest data of fatigue crack growth of A12024-T351 and A17075-T651 are used. Compared with the empirical distribution of test data, the distribution from the r-decreasing model is satisfactory and damage process is well described from the probabilistic and physical viewpoint.
