This paper proposes an implementation of a line- voltage sensorless three-phase active power filter. The line synchronization for an active power filter does not require any additional hardware. It can be properly operated under various line-voltage variation. Current compensation is done in the time domain allowing fast time response. All control functions are implemented in software using a single-chip microcontroller, thus simplifying the control circuit. It is shown via experimental results that the proposed controller gives good performance for the line-voltage sensorless active power filter.
Due to the high efficiency and compact mechanical structure, direct drive variable speed generators are used for power conversion in wind turbines. The wind energy conversion system (WECS) considered in this paper consists of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), uncontrolled rectifier, dc-dc boost converter controlled with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and adaptive hysteresis controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). For high utilization of the converter's power capability and stabilizing voltage and power flow, constant DC-link voltage is essential. Step and search MPPT algorithm which senses the rectified voltage ($V_{DC}$) alone and controls the same is used to effectively maximize the output power. The adaptive hysteresis band current control is characterized by fast dynamic response and constant switching frequency. With MPPT and adaptive hysteresis band current control in VSI, the DC link voltage is maintained constant under variable wind speeds and transient grid currents respectively.
A boost converter with charge-recycling technique fabricated by $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS BCD process can provide different supply voltages to drive series RGB LEDs in sequence for reducing the power consumption on the constant current generator. The proposed technique stores and restores extra energy to improve the efficiency, as well as enhances the reference tracking response. Experimental results show that the period of reference-tracking response can be improved. When the load current is 100mA, the periods of reference down-tracking and uptracking are smaller than $10{\mu}s$ and $20{\mu}s$, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate fast and efficient reference tracking performance is achieved.
In this paper, the new control algorithm is proposed that compensates instantaneously the active and reactive components of the input currents by the synchronous d,q axis conversion of a single-phase current in controlling the single-phase AC/DC parallel converters for a high speed train. The leakage inductance of a transformer was used as a boost inductance and the ripple of a transformer's primary current was reduced considerably by the parallel operation of the two converters with a proper switching phase-shift. The stable and fast control response characteristic is certificated by a simulation.

This paper presents a novel Parameter-Independent Fictive-Axis (PIFA) approach for the Voltage-Oriented Control (VOC) algorithm used in grid-tied single-phase inverters. VOC is based on the transformation of the single-phase grid current into the synchronous reference frame. As a result, an orthogonal current signal is needed. Traditionally, this signal has been obtained from fixed time delays, digital filters or a Hilbert transformation. Nevertheless, these solutions present stability and transient drawbacks. Recently, the Fictive Axis Emulation (FAE) VOC has emerged as an alternative for the generation of the quadrature current signal. FAE requires detailed information of the grid current filter along with its transfer function for signal creation. When the transfer function is not accurate, the direct and quadrature current components present steady-state oscillations as the fictive two-phase system becomes unbalanced. Moreover, the digital implementation of the transfer function imposes an additional computing burden on the VOC. The PIFA VOC presented in this paper, takes advantage of the reference current to create the required orthogonal current, which effectively eliminates the need for the filter transfer function. Moreover, the fictive signal amplitude and phase do not change with a frequency drift, which results in an increased reliability. This yields a fast, linear and stable system that can be installed without fine tuning. To demonstrate the good performance of the PIFA VOC, simulation and experimental results are presented.

The Cycloconverter that the author is going to treat in this paper, has strong advantages over the D.C. Link Inverter in points of chattering torque problem and natural commutation. Thus, the Cycloconverter is expected to be well applied to large and low-speed machines which require better speed control at low frequency. But the control circuit of Cycloconverter has two weak points described as follows. 1) Because of its rather complicated control circuit, it is likely to be illoperating due to unexpected noise signals, thus the higher the accuracy and reliability of the circuit is required to be, the more the circuit may cost. 2) Because the load current is not purely sinusoidal, the Cycloconverter may possibly be destroyed in case of inaccurate convert switching resulted from the difficulties in detecting the load current-zero and the current direction at the moment. In this paper, the author first of all intends to design and build a modified VVVF-type Noncirculating Current Cycloconverter to which recently proposed control methods are applied for improving the circuit simplicity, the control performance, and the system reliability. And then, experiments for observing the output waveforms of the Cycloconverter which is controlled by Singled-Board Computer using 8086 16-bit microprocesser are carried out. Finally the author concludes the result of this study as follows. 1) By replacing the conventional analog control circuits such as Reference Wave Generator, Cosine Timing Wave Generator, and Comparator with softwares, a great circuit simplicity is achieved. 2) The output of the designed Cycloconverter changes its frequency very fast without showing discontinuity of its waveform, and this waveform characteristics enables the smooth speed control of Induction Motor. 3) The design control circuit of Cycloconverter can be applied to the systems of 12 or 24 pulses because of its short processing period.

This paper describes the application of sliding mode control based on the variable structure control(VSC) concept for high-performance position control of an induction servo motor A design method based on external load parameters has been developed for the robust control of AC induction servo drive. Also, a slip frequency vector control with software current control technique has been adopted to achieve fast response of an induction motor drive The position control scheme is comprised of a variable structure controller and slip frequency vector control for inverter fed induction servo motor. Simulated results are given to verify the proposed design method by adoption of sliding mode and show robust control for a change of shaft inertia, viscous friction and torque disturbance.
This paper proposes a new islanding detection method for inverter-based distributed generators by continuously injecting a negligible amount of 2nd order harmonic current. The proposed method adopts a proportional resonant (PR) controller for the output current control of the inverter, and a PR filter to extract the 2nd order harmonic voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). The islanding state can be detected by measuring the magnitude ratio of the 2nd order harmonic voltage to the fundamental voltage at the PCC by injecting a 2nd order harmonic current with a 0.8% magnitude. The proposed method provides accurate and fast detection under grid voltage unbalance and load unbalance. The operation of the proposed method has been verified through simulations and experiments with a 5kW hardware set-up, considering the islanding test circuit suggested in UL1741.

Piezo devices have large power density and simple structure compared with conventional electrical motors. Thus they can generate larger forces than the conventional actuators with small size. Their resopnses to commands are also very fast and thus the bandwidths are very wide. Thus the piezo devices are expected to be used widely in the future for actuating devices requiring fast response and large actuating force with small size. However, the piezo actuators need high voltage with high driving current due to their large capacitive property. In this paper, proposed is a simple method to drive piezo devices using voltage inversion circuit with coli inductance. The coil inductance carries the charges in the piezo device to the opposite side, inverting the polarity of the applied voltage, thus saving the power to drive the device with AC voltages. Experiments with real circuit demonstrates that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency very much.

In this paper, novel topology for fast response of various loads is proposed. The windup phenomenon appears and results in performance degradation when the PI controller output is saturated. A new anti-windup PI controller is proposed to improve the control performance of variable speed motor drives, and it is experimentally applied to the speed control of a hysteresis current-controlled SRM driven by an asymmetry bridge converter. The experimental results show that the speed response has much improved performance, such as small overshoot and fast settling time, over the conventional PI control.
