MF sampler: Sampling method for improving the performance of a video based fashion retrieval model (MF sampler: 동영상 기반 패션 검색 모델의 성능 향상을 위한 샘플링 방법)

  • Recently, as the market for short form videos (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) on social media has gradually increased, research using them is actively being conducted in the artificial intelligence field. A representative research field is Video to Shop, which detects fashion products in videos and searches for product images. In such a video-based artificial intelligence model, product features are extracted using convolution operations. However, due to the limitation of computational resources, extracting features using all the frames in the video is practically impossible. For this reason, existing studies have improved the model's performance by sampling only a part of the entire frame or developing a sampling method using the subject's characteristics. In the existing Video to Shop study, when sampling frames, some frames are randomly sampled or sampled at even intervals. However, this sampling method degrades the performance of the fashion product search model while sampling noise frames where the product does not exist. Therefore, this paper proposes a sampling method MF (Missing Fashion items on frame) sampler that removes noise frames and improves the performance of the search model. MF sampler has improved the problem of resource limitations by developing a keyframe mechanism. In addition, the performance of the search model is improved through noise frame removal using the noise detection model. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the proposed method improves the model's performance and helps the model training to be effective.

A Robust License Plate Extraction Method for Low Quality Images (저화질 영상에서 강건한 번호판 추출 방법)

  • This paper proposes a robust license plate extraction method from images taken under unconstrained environments. Utilization of the color and the edge information in complementary fashion makes the proposed method deal with not only various lighting conditions, hilt blocking artifacts frequently observed in compressed images. Computational complexity is significantly reduced by applying Hough transform to estimate the skew angle, and subsequent do-skewing procedure only to the candidate regions. The true plate region is determined from the candidates under examination using clues including the aspect ratio, the number of zero crossings from vertical scan lines, and the number of connected components. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using compressed images collected under various realistic circumstances. The experimental results show 94.9% of correct license plate extraction rate.

GLIBP: Gradual Locality Integration of Binary Patterns for Scene Images Retrieval

  • We propose an enhanced version of the local binary pattern (LBP) operator for texture extraction in images in the context of image retrieval. The novelty of our proposal is based on the observation that the LBP exploits only the lowest kind of local information through the global histogram. However, such global Histograms reflect only the statistical distribution of the various LBP codes in the image. The block based LBP, which uses local histograms of the LBP, was one of few tentative to catch higher level textural information. We believe that important local and useful information in between the two levels is just ignored by the two schemas. The newly developed method: gradual locality integration of binary patterns (GLIBP) is a novel attempt to catch as much local information as possible, in a gradual fashion. Indeed, GLIBP aggregates the texture features present in grayscale images extracted by LBP through a complex structure. The used framework is comprised of a multitude of ellipse-shaped regions that are arranged in circular-concentric forms of increasing size. The framework of ellipses is in fact derived from a simple parameterized generator. In addition, the elliptic forms allow targeting texture directionality, which is a very useful property in texture characterization. In addition, the general framework of ellipses allows for taking into account the spatial information (specifically rotation). The effectiveness of GLIBP was investigated on the Corel-1K (Wang) dataset. It was also compared to published works including the very effective DLEP. Results show significant higher or comparable performance of GLIBP with regard to the other methods, which qualifies it as a good tool for scene images retrieval.

  • Existing face detection systems, which are used for digital door locks, digital cameras, video surveillance systems, and so on, are software-based implementation for relatively low level resolution images. Therefore, in this case, there are difficulties in detecting faces in a real-time fashion due to the increasing amount of operational processing as well as in allowing the requirements of face detections for HD(High Definition) resolutions. A hardware approach is necessary to efficiently find faces for HD images in real-time embedded systems. This paper proposes and implements a hardware architecture for an LBP(Local Binary Pattern) operation which is a time-consuming part as one of preprocessing steps for face detection. The hardware architecture proposed in this research has been implemented and tested with a FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) chip, and shown that the approach guarantees efficient face detection for HD images.

  • This study aims to suggest new directions for the development of make-up design by understanding characteristics of deconstruction make-up and to search for new directions and methods in theme expressions and design conceptions by making illustrations with deconstruction themes. This study examines conceptual characteristics of Derrida's deconstruction, and analyzes the various deconstruction make-up styles through the famous fashion magazines such as Beauty Collection, Collections, Fem, Modain, and Vogue since 1997. The make-up illustration works in this study were made depending on these styles. At first, the nature of deconsouction make-up can be explained as deconstruction of existing methods, deconstruction of the sexes and deconstruction of history or ethnicity. The deconstruction of existing methods can be subdivided into decadence make-up, detester make-up, graphic make-up and collage make-up. Deconstruction of the sexes can be explained androgynous make-up. Deconstruction of history or ethnicity is subdivided into white makeup, ancient Egyptian dark eye make-up and raceless make-up. The deconstruction make-up illustrations present infinite possibilities in expression styles through three dimensional expressions and media mixture using not only drawing materials including watercolor, poster-color, and color pencils but also objets including magazines, coarse fabrics, screentone, beads, suede, sand and so on. The study shows that since deconstruction make-up illustrations are not limited to depiction-centered expressions, they serve creating unique images and future inspirations.

A Study on the Images of Gold Color in Contemporary Fashion (현대 패션에 나타난 금색이미지에 관한 연구)

  • Symbolizing holiness, wealth and power, golden color was most effective to express the absolute power of royal family and aristocratic society as well as the beauty of magnificent and brilliant authority. Such golden color was understood as the artistic color formed in the dictatorial society as well as the society under the rule of absolute monarch. Thus, it has been used in the costume that symbolizes nobleness, holiness, brilliancy, ethnicity and future-oriented property. In this sense, the image of golden color shown in contemporary fashion was analyzed as follows in this research: First, showing the future-oriented image, golden color expresses avant-garde, cyber and cosmic future-oriented image by using diverse new materials which introduce the state-of-the-art technology sense in addition to metallic textile. Second, getting hint from the ethnic costume of many countries around the world such as brilliant embroidery using golden-thread, ornament with exaggerated technique such as gold foil, mark and character in peculiar tint, the ethnic image of golden color expressed the peculiar color or materials of ethnic costume, handicraft details, etc in golden color. Third, since golden color is expressed in ostentatious image to which elegance and luxuriousness that looks like the work of haute-couture costume of royal family or sensuality that voluptuously expresses the beautiful body line of women are added, the viewers are enchanted or attracted.

A Study on the Costume and Color Image of the Movie (영화(映畵)의 복식(服飾)과 색채(色彩) 이미지)

  • The purpose of this study is to study the movie costume and color image through the movie "The Aviator". Firstly, looking at the costumes of main characters and their color images expressed in the movie, one extreme of Hughes' image to another was expressed in order to show his extreme inner world by using the light-dark contrast rather than specific colors as the base. The gold color used to express the image of Hepburn represented an image expressing her intellectual elegance. As for her dress silhouette, the taste of intellectual elegance was displayed by a dress whose back was exposed with a grownup-style feminine silhouette or one with drapes and pleats ornaments. To express Gardner's image; that is, her alluring charm and glow, a vivid red color was used. As for her costume, her splendid and fascinating image was expressed by the 40s' rectangular- shouldered tailored suit, exotic peasant blouse and showy accessories. Secondly, the color image expressed in the background in the movie as a special space for Hughes. The red color image of screening room was shown to be as a space for passion and desire and the green color image of men’s room as a space for stability and rest.

  • These days, by the accelerated developments of science and industries and the menaces of war and terror, humans have come to have instinct to recur and nostalgia to nature and thereby many art works and designs with natural objectives have begun to be produced. Also the design in 21st century requires creative products based on cultural speciality of the countries. As the examples, we may easily find the images of the countries from visual expressions or products when we get in touch with the products of so called advanced countries in design i. e. U.S.A. Japan, Germany, France, Italy, countries of Scandinavian peninsular. This study, in such stream of the times, was to express our culture's own originality on clothing design with butterfly that is one of natural thing as the material but limited the boundary to realistic butterflies in folk drawings of the times of Chosun. As for the technique of expression, used digital textile printing for best expression of the fine lines, realistic shapes and peculiar colors of the butterflies in Chosun folk drawings and used diverse materials as materials for printing for diversity of the designs. Thereby this thesis is purposed to grope the products with superior competitiveness in the world market by presenting the realistic butterflies in Chosun folk drawings as motives with cultural value native to Korea and applying them to clothing designs.

Evaluation for the Heating Performance of the Heated Clothing on Market (시판 발열의복의 발열성능 평가)

  • To evaluate the heating performance of commercial heated vests, we investigated the thermal images and the temperature between body and vest for three heated vests. We captured infrared thermography by FT-IR Spectrometer to analyzed the heating temperature of the heating elements taken from the vests, and the maximum heating temperature of the vests was compared with thermal image in the room temperature($18^{\circ}C$). In outdoor experiment($-4.7^{\circ}C$), we measured the inner temperature as well as the thermal image of heated vests. Four healthy men participated in this experiment, and the ANOVA and Duncan test was performed for statistical analysis. As the results, the heating temperature range of the heated vests used in this experiment was $32{\sim}42^{\circ}C$, much lower than the displayed temperature range in their specifications, so the exact specification for heating performance of heated clothing was required. In comparisons of the heating performance among the heated vests, we found out that the insulation of clothing is very important to design the heated clothing, because the inner temperature of the vest had good insulation by itself was higher than that of the vest shown higher temperature over $7^{\circ}$ than another vests at the heating temperature.

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate 1) Values placed upon born hereditary appearance and a made up appearance, 2)examined for points of body and clothing and 3)discrepancy in opinions about Coordination system of 3D Virtual Model This study chose qualitative research approach in-depth interviews were from December 12, 2002, to February 20, 2003. The subjects of the study were 12 women aged in twenties 12 women aged over forty. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Women aged in their twenties defined appearance as follows. there are important a made up appearance, Appearance is looking at point of view from body shape to face, makeup, hair style, body image, cosmetic surgery, clothing and is looking at the whole point of view from hair to tiptoe. This seems to include attitude, personality, behavior, images, and feeling. 2. Regarding body image Women aged in their twenties prefer a slender figure. Women aged in their twenties exerts all possible efforts to have an attractive body through dress well. 3. Regarding body image Women aged in their twenties prefer coordinate to system of 3D virtual model.
