Effects of Shading on the Growth and Chlorophyll Fluorescence under Agrivoltaic System Conditions

  • Agrivoltaic System (AVS) was introduced with the concept that it could generate electricity by using the extra light remain after crops use for photosynthesis in farm, which can earn additional income. However, crop yield was declined under the AVS condition due to the decrease in light energy. In the past, many researchers have been studied about crop states under shading conditions. However, the phenomenon of partial shading such as under the AVS is not well studied. In this study, to figure out the response of crop under the different light conditions, the electron transport rate (ETR) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of rice was investigated using the chlorophyll fluorescence measurement. Also, physiological changes of crops under the shading conditions were investigated. The growth experiment under partial shading under AVS and overall shading which made of 35% shade cloth was conducted to understand the eco-physiological responses of rice to light in terms of the photosynthesis. Under the shading conditions, SPAD value and chlorophyll contents were higher, but the leaf thickness was lower than control. The overall shading condition show lower ETR than others during the growing season. In contrast, NPQ was higher than other treatments. This means the available light energy cannot contribute to photosynthesis under the shading condition.

건조기 고안 제작에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study for Dryer)

  • A newly devised dryer with heated air for the farm products, especially suited for high water content materials such as red pepper, Beer ground, each Vegetables, and Low water content materials such as Rough rice was tested for its thermal efficiency and drying mechanism, and the optimum conditions for each sample were established. In order to improve the present rural situation of drying farm products which entirely dependent upon natural solar radiation, a study upon an economic multi-parpose dryer was conducted. A series of drying tests were run first with red pepper which is one of the important cash crop in Korean farm. And successive series of tests were also run with such proaucts as garlic, sweet potatoes, green onion, radish, Beer ground and Rough rice. The results from the above experiment in drying system with heat dryer can be summarized as follows. 1. Drying duration could be shortened by the tempering effect in high water content crop such as red pepper and beer ground. 2. The color changes occured in around 20% water content in red pepper. The degree of color change was heavily affected by high temperature and short drying duration. 3. The drying condition of red pepper was most favourable at the temperature of 85$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 80$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and 75$^{\circ}C$ at the final stage, and with the air rate of 0.81㎥/sec and with sample amount of 200kg. 4. The drying condition of Rough rice(I.R.667) was most favourable at the templature of 40$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 35$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and final stage and with the air rate of 0.2㎥/sec and with sample amount of 75kg. 5. In order to prevent the color change of red pepper and to assure high efficiency in drying mechanism, it was necessary to lower the temperature as the time passes in drying process. 6. For vege tables, the drying rate were short in early stage and there was also tempering effect. However, for garlics, Constant drying rates through the early and final stages were observed and there were no tempering effects. 7. 해상풍력단지 지원항만 여건 분석 및 평가에 관한 연구 -경상남도 항만을 중심으로- (A Study on the Conditions Analysis and Assessment of Supporting Port for Offshore Wind Farm : Focusing on Ports in Gyeongsangnam-do)

  • 해상풍력발전은 대표적인 재생에너지이며 급속히 성장하고 있는 산업으로 정부는 2030년까지 17.7GW로 확대할 계획을 추진하고 있다. 경상남도의 경우에도 욕지도에 461.9MW 규모의 해상풍력발전이 추진중이며, 향후 1GW 규모 이상으로 추가 확대될 것으로 예상되고 있다. 이에 따라 해상풍력발전 기자재의 보관, 조립, 운송, 설치 등의 기능을 지원하는 지원항만은 해상풍력단지 개발사업의 원활한 진행과 경제성 확보에 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구는 선행연구와 주요국 사례를 바탕으로 해상풍력 지원항만의 평가 기준을 마련하여 욕지도 해상풍력단지와 연계한 경상남도 소재 항만의 여건을 분석하고 평가해 보고자 하였다. 평가 기준으로 해상풍력단지와의 거리, 입출항 제약, 항행수역, 어업권 요인, 부대비용, 안벽길이, 수심, 항만부지, 부두하중, 타 화물 간섭, 민원과 관련산업 집적으로 세분화하였다. 이후 경상남도 항만 중에서 통영항, 삼천포항, 고현항, 마산항, 진해항을 선정하여 평가하였다. 연구 결과로 해상풍력단지와의 거리, 입출항 제약, 어업권 요인 등은 통영항이 우수하였으나, 안벽길이, 수심, 항만부지 등 다른 평가 기준에서는 대체적으로 삼천포항, 마산항, 진해항이 우수한 것으로 평가되었다. 본 연구는 지속적으로 증가하는 해상풍력단지 개발사업과 연계하여 공공기관, 풍력사업자 및 정책입안자가 지원항만 선정에 필요한 사항을 평가하는 기본 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

이상기후가 과수 생산성에 미치는 악영향 - 기상특보 발효횟수를 중심으로 - (Negative Effect of Abnormal Climate on the Fruits Productivity - Focusing on the Special Weather Report -)

  • 기후변화에 대한 논의가 지속되면서 다양한 영역에서 이와 관련된 연구가 진행되고 있다. 농업은 기후와 가장 밀접하게 관련된 산업으로, 기후변화와 그에 따른 이상기후에 의해 생산성이 크게 달라질 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 기후변화 및 이상기후에 따른 작목별 농산물의 생산성 변화를 살펴보고, 이상기후 종류별 발효횟수가 증가함에 따라 비효율성이 증가하는 작목을 분류하였다. 이상기후를 대리할 수 있는 자료로 기상청에서 발표하는 기상특보의 발효횟수를 활용하였고, 분석에 고려된 기상특보의 종류에는 강풍특보, 호우특보, 대설특보, 건조특보, 한파특보, 태풍특보, 폭염특보가 있다. 8개 과수 작목의 생산 효율성 대해 각 기상특보의 발효횟수가 미치는 영향을 확률적 프런티어 분석을 통해 살펴본 결과 한파특보와 대설특보가 많은 수의 과수작목에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 농촌진흥청의 농산물 소득조사 자료를 활용한 상기 분석결과는 기후변화와 다양한 이상기후에 대한 국내 농업의 대응전략을 효율적으로 수립하는 데 기초자료로써 활용될 수 있다고 판단된다.

고병원성 조류인플루엔자(HPAI) 발생농가 입지특성 (Locational Characteristics of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza(HPAI) Outbreak Farm)

  • 본 연구는 가축질병이 밀집되어 발생했던 지역인 경기도 남부-충청도의 감염농가 입지 특성을 파악하여 가금농가의 질병 발생 확률을 분석하고 조건에 해당하는 지역을 도출하여 가축질병 발생예방과 차별적인 방역지역 선정 및 방역전략 설정의 근거와 보완대책의 기초자료로 사용하기 위해 수행되었다. 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 반경 3km내 가금농가 1개가 증가하면 HPAI에 감염될 확률이 전 단위에 비해 10.9% 증가한다. 2차선 이상 주요 도로와의 거리 1m가 증가하면 HPAI에 감염될 확률이 전 단위에 비해 0.001% 감소한다. 주요 철새도래지와의 15km 이내에 가금농가가 위치한 경우에서 15~30km로 변화하면 HPAI에 감염될 확률이 46.0% 감소한다. 주요 철새도래지와의 거리가 15km 이내에 가금농가가 위치한 경우에서 30km 이상으로 변화하면 HPAI에 감염될 확률이 88.5% 감소한다. 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과를 바탕으로 예측확률을 생성하고 도출된 입지요인인' 반경 3km내 가금농가 15개 초과, 주요 도로와의 거리 1km이내, 주요 철새도래지와의 거리 30 km이내'의 실제 지역을 도출하고 감염 비율을 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과가 지역 내에서 가축질병이 발생할 확률이 높은 지역을 판별하여, 방역 주체가 대상 지역과 농가에 대해 선제적 방역을 실시하거나 차량을 통제하는 등의 차별적인 방역지역과 방역전략을 설정할 때, 그 근거와 보완대책 마련에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

Estimating milk production losses by heat stress and its impacts on greenhouse gas emissions in Korean dairy farms

  • Meteorological disasters caused by climate change like heat, cold waves, and unusually long rainy seasons affect the milk productivity of cows. Studies have been conducted on how milk productivity and milk compositions change due to heat stress (HS). However, the estimation of losses in milk production due to HS and hereby environmental impacts of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are yet to be evaluated in Korean dairy farms. Dairy milk production and milk compositions data from March to October 2018, provided by the Korea Dairy Committee (KDC), were used to compare regional milk production with the temperature-humidity index (THI). Raw data for the daily temperature and relative humidity in 2018 were obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). This data was used to calculate the THI and the difference between the maximum and minimum temperature changing rate, as the average daily temperature range, to show the extent to which the temperature gap can affect milk productivity. The amount of milk was calculated based on the price of 926 won/kg from KDC. The results showed that the average milk production rate was the highest within the THI range 60-73 in three regions in May: Chulwon (northern region), Hwasung (central region), and Gunwi (southern region). The average milk production decreased by 4.96 ± 1.48% in northern region, 7.12 ± 2.36% in central region, and 7.94 ± 2.57% in southern region from June to August, which had a THI range of 73 or more, when compared to May. Based on the results, the level of THI should be maintained like May. If so, the farmers can earn a profit of 9,128,730 won/farm in northern region, 9,967,880 won/farm in central region, and 12,245,300 won/farm in southern region. Additionally, the average number of cows raised can be reduced by 2.41 ± 0.35 heads/farm, thereby reducing GHG emissions by 29.61 ± 4.36 kg CO2eq/day on average. Overall, the conclusion suggests that maintaining environmental conditions in the summer that are similar to those in May is necessary. This knowledge can be used for basic research to persuade farmers to change farm facilities to increase the economic benefits and improve animal welfare.

큰느타리(새송이)버섯 스마트팜 재배를 통한 생육환경 분석 및 자실체 품질 특성 (Analysis of the growth environment and fruiting body quality of Pleurotus eryngii cultivated by Smart Farming)

  • 최근 ICT기반 스마트팜이 급속도로 증가추세이다. 버섯의 생육환경요인은 온도, 습도, CO2, 광이 주 요인이지만 그동안 온도 위주의 자동제어가 사용되어왔다. 큰느타리버섯의 생육환경 조절은 온도는 자동제어하지만 가습과 환기는 경험을 기준으로 한 타이머 사용을 하고 있었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 온도, 습도, 환기까지 자동제어를 통해 큰느타리버섯의 1세대 스마트팜 모델을 설정하기 위한 시험을 진행하였다. 환경제어시스템 및 모니터링 장비를 설치 한 후 기존의 방법으로 재배하고 있는 상태에서 생육실의 조건과 자실체의 생육조사를 실시하였으며 그 결과를 소개하고자 한다. A농가의 경우 온도는 약 17℃에서 발이시키고 자실체 생육기에는 약 16도로 관리하였다. 습도는 초기 95%로 유지하다가 초발이 이후에는 가습을 하지 않는 경향이었다. CO2 관리는 센서도 없었으며 갓과 대의 모양을 보면서 관행적으로 환기하고 있었고 700 ppm에서 최고 2,500 ppm까지 유지하는 경향이었다. 이 농가의 자실체 품질은 평균 개체중 125 g, 대굵기 53 mm, 대길이/대굵기 비율은 1.8, 갓직경/대굵기 1.25 수준으로 A등급(특품)~B등급(상품) 사이에 해당하였다. B농가의 경우는 온도는 약 19~17℃에서 발이시키고 자실체 생육기에는 약 17℃로 관리하였고 생육후기에는 13~15℃였다. 습도는 83~95%로 육안관찰하면서 관행적으로 조절하는 경향이었다. CO2 관리는 센서는 있었으나 제어는 하지 않았고 갓과 대의 모양을 보면서 관행적으로 환기하고 있었고 640 ppm에서 최고 4,500 ppm까지 유지하는 경향이었다. 이 농가의 자실체 형태는 평균 개체중 102 g, 대굵기 48 mm, 대길이/대굵기 비율은 2.2, 갓직경/대굵기 1.2 수준이었다. 이러한 결과는 환경조건 특히 CO2 농도에 따라 큰느타리버섯의 품질이 결정됨을 알 수 있었으며 A농가의 환경조절 방법을 개선하면서 DB화하면 정밀한 스마트팜 모델로 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Growth- and Breed-related Changes of Fetal Development in Cattle

  • Breed differences in adult animals are determined during fetal development. If interventions are to be developed that influence growth of muscle and fat, it is important to know at which time during gestation breed differences appear and are fixed. The objective of this study was to characterize fetal development in cattle of different breeds. Pregnant cows of 4 cattle breeds with different growth impetus and muscularity were slaughtered under normal processing conditions and the fetuses were removed. German Angus, a typical beef cattle; Galloway, a smaller, environmentally resistant beef type; Holstein Friesian, a dairy type; and Belgian Blue, an extreme type for muscle growth were used. Fetuses of each breed were investigated at 3, 6, and 9 mo of gestation. Fetuses were weighed and dissected into carcass, organs, and muscles. Body fat weight was obtained using the Soxhlet extraction method. Fetal weight increased most rapidly in the third trimester of gestation mainly due to the accelerated muscle and fat deposition. The organ weight to body weight (BW) ratios decreased and the muscle and fat weight to BW ratios increased. At 3 mo of gestation, Galloway fetuses had the significantly smallest BW, half-carcass weight, leg weight, organ weight, muscle weight and shortest leg length. In contrast, Holstein fetuses had the significantly greatest BW, liver, kidney, and lung weights and significantly longest leg length among the 4 breeds, but no differences between Holstein Friesian and Belgian Blue were detected in half-carcass and leg weight. Indeed, Belgian Blue fetuses had the significantly greatest half-carcass weight, leg weight, and muscle weight at 9 mo of gestation, and Galloway had a significantly greater body fat to BW ratio than Holstein Friesian and Belgian Blue. These differences were not evident at 3 and 6 mo of gestation. These data show that the profound increase of tissue and organ weights occurred in later gestation in cattle fetuses even though breed differences were evident as early as 3 mo of gestation. Depending on the tissue of interest, impacting fetal growth likely needs to occur early in gestation before the appearance of breed-specific differences.

A Comparative Evaluation of Integrated Farm Models with the Village Situation in the Forest-Garden Area of Kandy, Sri Lanka

  • Data from a village household dairy survey was compared with technical parameters of three model farms (0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 ha in extent) established by the Mid-country Livestock Development Centre (MLDC). In terms of land size, about 67% of the 250 dairy farmers interviewed corresponded with the MLDC models, but only 33% of the farmers were keeping dairy cattle under conditions comparable to the MLDC models (no regular off-farm income). In the 0.2 ha category, village farmers kept more cows, and in the other two categories the village farmers kept less cows than their MLDC model counterparts. In all three categories, the milk production per cow was higher in the model farms (1540 to 2137 vs. 1464 to 1508 litres/cow/year), and this could be attributed to higher feeding levels of concentrates in the model farms as compared to the village farmers (430 to 761 vs. 233 to 383 kg/cow/year). The amount of milk produced from fodder was higher in the village situation in comparison to the models. In the mid country, dairy production seems to depend on access to fodder resources rather than on the extent of land owned. Except in the 0.8 ha village category, the highest contribution to the total income was made by the dairy component (44 to 60%). With 0.8 ha village farmers, the income contribution from dairy and crops was similar (41%). Income from other livestock was important for the 0.2 ha MLDC model, but for all other categories their contribution to total income ranged from 0 to 10%. Access to fodder resources outside own-farm land is vital for economic dairy production. As such, an in-depth analysis of feed resources available and their accessibility needs to be further investigated.

Effect of Additives, Storage Temperature and Regional Difference of Ensiling on the Fermentation Quality of Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) Silage

  • The effects of addition of celulases (A cremonium cellulolyticus and Trichoderma viride, CE), a commercial inoculum containing lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus casei, LAB), fermented green juice (macerated napier grass with water was incubated anaerobically with 2% glucose for 1 day, FGJ) and glucose (G), and regional difference of ensiling on napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) silage were studied by using 900 ml laboratory glass bottle silos under 30 and $40^{\circ}C$ storage conditions in 1995 and 1996. Experiment 1 was carried out to compare the addition of CE, LAB, FGJ and the combinations. Silages were stored for 45 days after ensiling. Experiment 2 studied the effects of applications of CE, LAB, FGJ and G. Experiment 3 was carried out using the similar additives as experiment 2 except for LAB. Silages were stored for 60 days in the experiments 2 and 3. Experiments 1 and 2 were done in Nagoya, and experiment 3 in Okinawa. Sugar addition through CE or G improved the fermentation quality in all the experiments, which resulted in a greater decrease in the pH value and an increased level of lactic acid, while butyric acid contents increased under $30^{\circ}C$ storage condition in CE addition. LAB and FGJ additions hardly affected the silage fermentation quality without additional fermentable carbohydrate. But the combination of LAB, FGJ and glucidic addition (CE and G) improved the fermentation quality. The effect of the regional difference of ensiling between temperate (Nagoya; $35^{\circ}$ N) and subtropical (Okinawa; $26.5^{\circ}$ N) zones on silage fermentation quality was not shown in the present study.
