  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family climate of fathers' family of origin, fathers' satisfaction with marriage and life, and parenting on father-son intimacy. A total of 297 adolescents(M=15 yrs. SD=1.4) and their fathers completed questionnaires. Data were analyzed by structural equation model using AMOS 7.0. Results indicated that 1) family climate of fathers' family of origin affected further-son intimacy positively through both fathers' high marital and life satisfaction, and thereby supportive parenting behavior. 2) Family climate of the family of origin affected farther-son intimacy negatively through low marital satisfaction and thereby high psychological controlling parenting. These results evinced that family climate of father's family of origin could be the source of father-son intimacy while fathers' marital and life satisfaction and parenting behaviors mediate the relationships.

  • The aim of this study was to grasp the context of family life education under the Joseon Dynasty. As a first step to attain this goal, we used Yi Duk-Hong's Bubuyubyeoldo as our main material and examined the meaning of 'bubuyubyeol'(夫婦有別) in family life education as it was defined during the Joseon Dynasty. As a result, we found that 'bubuyubyeol' implied the strict avoidance of the opposite sex in the relationship between a couple and others as well as within the marital relationship. We also determined that in the family life education, 'bubuyubyeol' was closely related to 'bujayuchin'(父子有親), a concept that refers to the ethical relationship between parents and children. This concept also, formed the basis of social relationships. These results imply that contemporary family life education will be more effective and efficient 1) when it presupposes a common basic concept pertaining to the contents of object-specific education as well as overall family life education, and 2) when direct education programs are executed in harmony with indirect education.

  • This study investigated the influence that the family rituals of unmarried males and females have on satisfaction with life and family role salience, recognizing the necessity to illuminate perceptions related to the original families of unmarried males and females through more diverse perspectives. Questionnaires were given to 601 unmarried male and female adults over 20 years of age. For data analysis, SPSS Win 18.0 was used, and the results are summarized as follows. First, the males and females were divided into three groups: "family with inactive family rituals", "family with active family rituals" or "family with moderate family rituals". There was a significant difference in family role salience depending on family type. Second, family type was classified as a degree of "relation" through common points of two variables, and each group was named as having a family with "satisfying relations," "general relations," or "deficient relations." Third, in the case of males, life satisfaction was high when the level of family economy was high, when parents' first marriage and family actively participated in family rituals.
