A Study on the Differences of Performance in Small Businesses by Gender

  • There is a growing concerns for startups and management issues in the small business sector. In the Korean unique condition, female-owned small business seemed to play a crucial role in stimulating domestic demands and replacements for workforce reductions in the time of reduced birth rates and export-driven economy. Despite importance of female-owned small businesses, domestic statistics about female small businesses are not well recognized and defined. To design the current entrepreneurship training programs for female entrepreneurs more female-friendly, we need to improve overall environments surrounding training systems. We can classify the environmental improvement for women-friendly entrepreneurship training into three types as follows: First, it is needed to conduct regular surveys on difficulties female entrepreneurs may have. To develop a program for women-friendly entrepreneurship training, extensive and thorough survey is required for entrepreneurship training goals. To design women-friendly entrepreneurship training for women entrepreneurs henceforth, preliminary surveys should be carried out to detect problems within the course of the program and women's expectation regarding entrepreneurship training. Second environmental improvement is to overcome the lack of information on entrepreneurship training for women. Difficulties that women entrepreneurs experience are different from their counterparts, male. Last is about overcoming the lack of follow-up management after opening a business. To surmount the issue, we need to organize a management improvement consulting systems focused on female entrepreneurs. Establishing networks connecting female businesses should be the most urgent measure. With this regard, if follow-up services for female entrepreneurs are provided for at least three years from the time a business is opened, it may produce even more desirable results.

환경친화적 생활양식에 기초한 유아의 환경교육 (Environmental Education for the Early Childhood Children based on the Environment-friendly Life Style)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the direction of environmental education for early childhood children based on the environment-friendly life style and to improve the possibility of application of it at home and kindergarten. This study reviewed reflectively the early studies on the concepts of ecocentrism, the emerging process of it, the importance of environmental education for early childhood children based on the ecocentrism, and the practice of these kinds of education at home and kindergarten. The main concepts connected to the environment-friendly life style based on ecocentrism, that is, 'preservation of nature', 'interdepentence', 'wholeness', 'equilibrium' are the foundations of environmental education for early childhood children. When these kinds of concepts are considered, the aims of environmental education for early childhood children should be focused on the life style that attaches great importance to the symbiosis of human being and nature. The educational contents and methods in harmony with ecocentrism are as follows: The educational methods should be connected to the education based on ordinariness, the learning through adults' model, the family-community-centered activities, and ways of thinking of the unity of knowledge and conduct. And educational contents should include all of the life styles in clothes, food, and shelter. And the educational methods also should be connected to the education through joint working of children and teacher, play-centered education, activities considering ages and individual variations, and education connected home. And educational contents should include many different kinds of activities of experiencing nature outside home and kindergarten.

  • 본 연구는 소비자 의식조사를 통한 친환경적 리모델링의 문제점을 분석한 후 개선방안을 제시하고자 실시하였다. 이를 위하여 리모델링 시장 현황 및 시장 전망을 분석하였다. 다음으로 거주자들의 소비자 의식을 통하여 친환경적 리모델링의 문제점을 도출하고 이에 따라 친환경적 리모델링의 활성화를 위한 개선방안을 제시한다. 상기와 같은 목적과 방법으로 진행된 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 친환경적 리모델링의 의식조사를 위한 대상을 선정한 후 의식조사를 통하여 문제점을 분석하였다. 둘째, 분석된 문제점을 바탕으로 친환경적 리모델링의 활성화를 위한 개선방안을 제시하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of family-friendly life environment factors including local community's living environment satisfaction (safety, convenience, comfort, accessibility, exchange of neighbor satisfaction), family support facility satisfaction, family support program satisfaction and nurture and education environment satisfaction, and local community's living information accessibility on the effect of multiple roles of married men and women with children. Data were collected from 380 married men and women with children located Seoul, GyeongGi-Do, ChungCheongBuk-Do, and KyungSangNam-Do. The results show that, first of all, related to general trend of role satisfaction and role strain, the subjects have higher experience of role satisfaction than role strain. Secondly, the variables of social demography, such as monthly income, non-regular full-time working system, white collar occupation, number of children and level of education, and living environment variables, such as satisfaction of living environment stability and satisfaction of neighbor exchange in living environment were significantly related to role strain. Thirdly, social demography variables, such as average monthly earnings, gender (male), non-regular part-time working system, satisfaction of stability in living environment, and satisfaction of convenience in living environment were significantly related to role strain.

직장 남성의 우울감에 영향을 미치는 요인: 직장 내 대인관계 스트레스와 가족관계 스트레스를 중심으로 (The Influencing Factors on Working Men's Depression: Focusing on Relationship Stress at Work and Family Relationship Stress)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of relationship stress at work and family relationship stress on working men's depression in order to improve their mental health. Data were collected via questionnaire from 313 white-collar workers living in Seoul, Daejeon and Gwangju. There were significant differences in depression depending on age, spouse, age of child, family size and years of labor. There were positive correlations among depression, relationship stress at work and family relationship stress. The family relationship stress was the most influential factor on depression, followed by relationship stress at work. Family relationship stress had a mediating effect on depression and relationship stress at work. These results showed that employers should manage depression of workers in a family friendly way to reduce the stress in relationship at work and home such as work and family balance policy.

맞벌이 가정의 일-가정 양립의 양상과 조화로운 양립의 가능성 탐색 연구 (A Qualitative Study on Dual Earner Families' Work and Family Lives for Ideal Work-Family Balance)

  • This qualitative study focused on the dual earner families' work and family life to explore the possibility of ideal work-family balance. Seven employed married women and two men were interviewed about their work-family balance during two months in 2010. We described four representative cases of having difficulty in work and life balance. And we identified the three dimensions to make their work-family balance difficult. They are motherhood ideology, ideal worker, and the limit of men's housework participation. For ideal work-family balance, we suggested alternatives. First, the companies should make various work-life balance programs and allow their workers to use them actively. Second, the government should support the needs of work-life balance and carry out various family-friendly and child care polices. Third, husbands have to participate the housework much more and the model of 'good' parents need to be modified.

  • This paper examines the traits and directions of family policy represented in the Basic Code of Healthy Families. Strategies for the development of family policy for family professionals and policy makers to provide integrated services for families and the implications of such strategies are also discussed. A family-friendly and a life course perspective are adopted in order to strengthen and expand family policies and promote the establishment of a healthy families' support center. The perspectives and issues of the Basic Code of Healthy Families are reviewed in the light of a paradigm shift in family policy in Korea, with suggestions for adoption of the family policy also addressed.

기업의 자녀돌봄지원제도가 미취학자녀를 둔 기혼여성의 이직의향 및 일-가정 상호작용에 미치는 영향 (The effect of family care program in workplace on turnover intention and work-family interaction for married working women)

  • The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how having a family care program in the workplace for working women with preschool children affects these women's work and family life. This study employs a panel analysis based on data from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. The major results are as follows. First, financial support for nursery care is only significantly related to the turnover of married women with preschool children. Second, the negative effects of work on the family are significantly influenced by financial support for nursery care and maternity leave. Third, financial support for nursery care is also significantly related to the positive effects of work on the family. In conclusion, a family-friendly care program including financial support for nursery care and maternity leave in the workplace is an important support system for working mothers in raising their children.

녹색성장 관점에서 본 건강가정 : 과제와 실천 (Healthy Family from the Perspectives of Green Growth : Mission and Practice)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the perspectives of Green Growth and Healthy Families, and to suggest an expansive paradigm for the study on Healthy Families in the context of Home Economics. From the perspective of Green Growth, the sustainability for future generations, the ecological value, and the foundation of the community network were searched as the key points. So, from the key points, and in the context of Healthy Families, two strategies were suggested: First, the care services in the Center for Healthy Families have to be extended to give more opportunities to the users and the various demands for the care services can be satisfied. Secondly, the exchange of services has to be more activate in the local community so that our society itself can become a completely family-friendly society. Moreover, this study suggested a mission of Home Economics, that the study for family policy, the development of related programs, and the education of professionals for the Center for Healthy Families can be more connected with the perspectives of Green Growth, especially the focus on family, its ecological living patterns and the detailed attitudes needed to balance between industry, the economy, and family in the context of Green Growth.

직무 소진이 조직몰입과 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향: 가족친화 조직인식의 조절 효과를 중심으로 (Effects of Job Burnout on Organization Commitment and Organizational Citizen Behavior: A Moderating Effect of Family-Supportive Organization Perception)

  • Objectives: Work-Family Balance (WFB) is a significant social issue in Korea. We examined the effects of employees' burnout on organizational performances by determining the moderating effect of family-friendly organizational culture in firefighter's organization. Methods: To test the hypothesis, data were collected from firefighters who are working at five fire stations in Deajeon and Chungnam province. Based on quantitative survey from 489 respondents, hierarchical regression analyses were performed. Results: The analysis revealed that job burnout had a negative effect on both organizational commitment (OC) and organizational citizen behavior (OCB). Family-Supportive Organization Perception (FSOP) negatively moderated the relationship between burnout and OCB. On the other hand, there was no significant moderating effect of FSOP on the relationship between burnout and OC. Conclusions: This study raises the importance of creating an organizational culture that gives its members a belief that the organization guarantees and supports the work-family balance system.
