The climate change affects the growth and development of weeds as well as the outbreak of weeds. Especially, the occurrences of problematic paddy weeds due to climate change might cause the difficulties in weed control. This study therefore, investigated the current dominance and distribution of paddy weeds. As a result of the study on paddy weeds in northern Gyeonggi-do, there were total of 65 taxonomy groups including 23 family, 41 genus, 57 species, 7 subspecies and 1 variety. Among all the plants, 46 species were annual plants and 16 were perennial plants. Echinochloa crus-galli was the highest in importance analysis and the followings were in order of Ludwigia prostrate and Lemna paucicostata. The similarity of different paddy weeds in different regions observed through TWINSPAN analysis was distinguished by Fimbristylis miliacea, Rotala indica and Cyperus flaccidus. Regional differences shown in CCA analysis using weed species and soil environment revealed that Gimpo-si and Namyangju-si has difference soil and weeds, which are features that distinguished them from other regions. In northern Gyeonggi-do the result of paddy weed research showed the interregional difference not in dominant weeds but in distribution species.

About 136 weed species belonging to 44 families occurring in summer observed in Cheju island. The Compositae was the most widely occurring family covering 29 weed species, followed by 16 species in Graminae, 14 in Leguminosae, 13 in Rosaceae, 10 in Polygonaceae etc., The dominant weed species detected in range areas of Cheju island were Trifolium repens, Botrychium virginianum, Rosa multiflora, Miscanthus sinensis, Imperata cylindrica. The range areas of Cheju island consisted of the communities of Artemisia princeps-Botrychium virginianum, Artemisia princeps-Erigeron borariensis and Dianthus sinensis, and Artemisia-Lespedeza bicolor and Miscanthus sinensis and then the differential species of their communities were Botrychium virginianum, Erigeron boriensis, and Lespedeza bicolor and Miscanthus sinensis, respectively. The species of the high frequencies occurring in investigated sites were Artemisia princeps, Cirsium rhinoceros, Hydrocotyle ramijlora, Rosa multiflora, Sanguisorba officinalis, Rubus crataegifolius, Potentilla fragariodes, Erigeron annus, Plantago asiatica, Oxalis corniculata, Mosla dianthera in order.
In order to get basic information for establishing weed control methods in greenhouse, weed distribution was surveyed at 42 greenhouses in 10 cities and counties of Gyeongnam and Junnam area from September to December, 1995. Sixty nine weed species in 23 families which were composed of 28 annuals, 16 biennials and 25 perennials were identified. Broadleaf weed species was 50 species, followed by 8 species in grasses, and 11 species in sedges. Cruciferae was the most widely occurring family belong to 9 species, followed by 8 species in Compositae, Cyperaceae and Gramineae, respectively, 6 species in Polygonaceae, and the other 17 families have 1~3 species. The dominant weed species occurred in greenhouses based on summed dominance ratio of weeds were Cardamine flexuosa var. fallax, Digitaria sanguinalis, Eleusine indica, Stellaria aquatica, Centipeda minima, Mollugo pentaphylla, Portulaca oleracea, Rorippa islandica.
This study was conducted in order to investigate the distribution pattern of weeds and ecological characteristics on the dry field in the Eastern region of Korea. The weed species data were obtained from 12 regions in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsang-do. 150 taxa were recorded from three main distinguished habitats; inside of dry field (IDF), embankment around the end of dry field (EDF), levee slope of dry field (LS). The weed species of three different habitats were IDF 83 taxa, EDF 133 taxa and LS 105 taxa. The species showing higher rNCD value was Portulaca oleracea in IDF, Digitaria sanguinalis in EDF and Humulus japonicus in LS. Compositae was dominant family followed by Gramineae, Polygonaceae and Leguminosae. Life form was distinguished as Th-R5-D4-e and three different habitats showed the same results. Disturbance index was analysed as IDF 83.1%, EDF 68.4%, and LS 62.9%. Naturalized rate was analysed as IDF 28.9%, EDF 22.6%, and LS 20.0%. These results indicate that the weeding management, land use intensity, and human interference effect on the distribution index and naturalized rate of weed.

Korean Poaceae includes approximately 80 species of the agricultural weeds. Precise species identification is the first step for more effective weed management in the agricultural fields. However, the identification of species in Poaceae is not easy without the assistance of taxonomists or identification experts although they are relatively easy to distinguish from the plants of the other family by the unique characteristics of caryopsis. Thus, DNA barcode was suggested as an alternative powerful technique for species identification by using short sections of DNA from a specific region of the genome. Two standard barcode markers of vascular plants, chloroplast rbcL and matK, and a supplementary nuclear ribosomal Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region were used for barcode of major Korean Poaceae weeds, 403 individuals of 84 taxa. All the barcode markers revealed a good level of sequencing success with the lowest 73.7% for matK and the highest 88.8% for rbcL. The barcode sequences were deposited to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database for public use. Combined matK and ITS showed very high resolving power with 92.9%. Besides the identification of weeds for weed managment, the generated DNA barcode data could be used for many other applications such as rapid biodiversity assessment and conservation prioritization.

We surveyed the distribution of exotic weeds in the 141 crop fields of Jeju island. The exotic weeds were summarized as 66 taxa including 18 families, 50 genera, 64 species and 2 varieties. In winter crop fields there were 45 species of exotic seeds in 18 families, in summer crop fields 50 species in 16 families, and in perennial crop fields 39 species in 17 families. Total exotic weeds were classified to 39.4% of summer annuals, 36.4% of winter annuals, 7.6% of summer and winter annuals, and 16.7% of perennials. The ratio of summer annuals were high in the summer crop fields. Compositae was dominant family, followed by Gramineae, Malvaceae and Solanaceae. Malvaceae did not appear in perennial crop fields. Dominant exotic weeds in winter crop fields were Chenopodium album, Amaranthus viridis, Senecio vulgaris and Coronopus didymus, in summer crop fields, Chenopodium album, Amaranthus viridis, Senecio vulgaris and Sonchus oleraceus and in perennial crop fields, Conyza sumatrensis, Gnaphalium calviceps and Senecio vulgaris. The dominant exotic weeds in the crop fields of Jeju island were Chenopodium album, followed by Amaranthus viridis, Senecio vulgaris, and Conyza sumatrensis. This information could be useful for establishment of exotic weed control methods in Jeju island.

The first Protestant medical missionary, Horace Allen, came to Korea in 1884 and built the first western-style hospital, Jaejungwon. John Heron, Oliver Avison and other foreign medical doctors soon followed. They established hospitals and medical schools, and, by treating patients and educating native doctors, they disseminated and developed modern medicine in Korea. At the same time, they wrote letters and reports to their sponsoring agencies, as well as family and friends, thereby leaving a vast body of literature that is scattered all over the world. Since the end of the 19th century, the records left by foreign medical missionaries have been valuable resources for the study of Korean history. While all types of records, such as diaries, memoirs, reports and travel logs, are available, these tend to be exaggerated or unverifiable because they are unilateral records. In contrast, letters can be verified because they are bilateral records between the recipient and the sender, and cannot be modified or altered according to changes in circumstances. Despite the academic value of these materials, however, there have been insufficient efforts to discover or identify these primary data sources, or to systematically organize them for scholars. This paper identified 49 archival collections from 29 institutions in North America. After analyzing their academic value, the paper will explore digital humanities options in utilizing the letters for future scholarship.
This survey was conducted to identify weed occurrence and to investigate weed management methods in the apple orchard fields in Chungnam province including Daejeon and Sejong from April to June and from September to October, 2015. In this survey, 64 weed species in 27 families including 39 annuals and 25 perennials were identified. Based on the importance values, the most dominant weed species in the first survey was Poa annua (6.51), followed by Veronica didyma (5.36), Plantago asiatica (5.36). In the second survey, Stellaria media (5.73), Digitaria ciliaris (5.36), and Rumex crispus (5.18) were dominant. When the 64 weed species were classified by family, the most abundant weed species belong to Compositae (12 species), followed by Poaceae (7 species), Polygonaceae (6 species), and Cruciferae (6 species). These 31 weed species in the most occurred four families accounted for 48% of total weed occurrence. Based on the questionnaire survey in which weed management methods in the apple orchard were asked, applied mowing + herbicide, mowing + tillage, and mowing + sod-culture was methods commonly conducted in apple orchard fields.
This study was conducted to examine the change of flora and plant species diversity between 2005 and 2010 in Yangjaecheon (stream) which was divided among three different types of vegetation management method; ecological vegetation management (weeding vines and invasive plants; EVM), plant cultivation (PC) and uncared for vegetation (UC). There were total 478 taxa, composed by 429 spontaneous taxa and 49 cultivated taxa in 2005 and total 424 taxa composed by 318 spontaneous taxa and 106 cultivated taxa in 2010. In spontaneous plants, 201 taxa were distributed over total area, 197 taxa were distributed in only EVM area, 10 taxa in only PC area and 59 taxa in only UC area. Also, the most dominant family (Asteraceae${\rightarrow}$Poaceae) and number of rare taxa (reduced) and wide distributed taxa (increased) was changed from 2005 to 2010. The rate of perennial taxa was found to be increased in only EVM area. In conclusion, EVM is thought to be a more efficient method for plant species diversity of restored stream.
In response of fungicides for control of gray snow mold, isolates of Typhula incarnata were collected from three golf courses in 2012 Yongpyeong, Korea and tested for sensitivity to propiconazole, tebuconazole and azoxystrobin fungicides. Four discriminatory concentrations were used to detect in vitro sensitivity of 50 isolates. Mean 50% effective concentration inhibiting mycelial growth ($EC_{50}$) values for tebuconazole was the lowest among the three fungicides. The $EC_{50}$ value of tebuconazole ranged from 0.0005 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ to 0.014 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ with a mean of 0.0048 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$. The mean $EC_{50}$ values of propiconazole in triazole family was 0.5825 (0.78-1.651) ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$. $EC_{50}$ value of azoxystrobin ranged from 0.0017 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ to 0.131 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ with a mean of 0.0278 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$. There was no correlation among $EC_{50}$ values for propiconazole, azoxystrobin and tebuconazole indicating no cross-resistance relationships with each other. Results of this study were confirmed no resistance isolates in vitro sensitivity of T. incarnata of three fungicides in Yongpyeong.
