  • A new method for on-line induction motor fault detection is presented in this paper. This system utilizes unsupervised-learning clustering algorithm, the Dignet, proposed by Thomopoulos etc., to learn the spectral characteristics of a good motor operating on-line. After a sufficient training period, the Dignet signals one-phase ground fault, or a potential failure condition when a new cluster is formed and persists for some time. Since a fault condition is found by comparison to a prior condition of the machine, on-line failure prediction is possible with this system without requiring information on the motor of load characteristics.

  • Recently, the demand for fuel efficient electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) has been growing globally. Due to the increased number of switching devices in the electrified vehicles, the probability of the semiconductor device failure is much higher than in other application areas. A sudden failure in one of the power switches and insufficient power management ability in the systems not only decreases system performance, but also leads to critical safety problems. In this paper, novel switch open circuit fault detection method is proposed, and the proposed approach is verified by experiments.

  • Optical fiber vibrations sensors (OFVSs) and extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) were used in damage monitoring of fiber-metal laminates(FML). The optical fiber vibration sensor and EFPI were applied in order to detect and evaluate the strain, damage and failure of FML. Damages in composites, such as matrix cracks, delamination and fiber breakage may occur as a result of excessive load, fatigue and low-velocity impacts. Indentation test was performed with the measurement of optical signal and acoustic emission (AE). The signals of the optical fiber vibration sensor due to damages were quantitatively evaluated by wavelet transform. It was found that damage information of comparable in quality to acoustic emission data could be obtained from the optical fiber vibration sensor signals.

  • Vibration analysis is widely used in machinery diagnosis and the wavelet transform has also been implemented in many applications in the condition monitoring of machinery. In contrast to previous applications, this paper examines whether acoustic signal can be used effectively along vibration signal to detect the various local fault, in local fault of gearboxes using the wavelet transform. Moreover, envelop analysis is well known as useful tool for the detection of rolling element bearing fault. In this paper, a acoustic emission (AE) sensor is employed to detect gearbox damage by installing them around bearing housing at driven-end side. Signal processing is conducted by wavelet transform and enveloping to detect her fault all at once gearbox using AE signal.

  • 코로나19의 펜데믹 현상으로 인하여 모바일 서비스의 활용 비중이 높아지고 있다. 그러나, 대부분의 모바일 장비에 대한 이상 현상을 장비의 알람 중심으로 인지하므로, 복잡한 장애가 발생할 경우에 직관적으로 장비의 문제 판별하기 어려운 한계가 발생한다. 이를 보완하기 위해서 본 연구에서는 장비의 알람과 성능 정보를 조합하여 직관적으로 문제를 인지할 수 있도록 RRCF 알고리즘을 활용하여 Anomaly Score 생성하였으며, 과거 장애 이력을 97% 검출하는 효과를 검증하였다.

I-fiber 스티칭 공법이 적용된 Single-lap Joint의 강도 특성 및 파손 신호 검출 연구 (A Study on the Strength Characteristics and Failure Detection of Single-lap Joints with I-fiber Stitching Method)

  • 적층 복합재의 특성상 두께 방향 물성이 취약하여 비틀림, 저속충격, 피로 하중 등 복합 하중을 받게 되면 재료 내부의 미세크랙 진전을 통해 층간분리 현상이 발생하게 된다. 이를 방지하고자 Z-pinning, Stitching 등 다양한 3차원 보강 공법과 구조물의 미세균열을 실시간으로 검출하는 구조 건전성 감시 기법이 꾸준히 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 I-fiber 스티칭 공법으로 보강된 Single-lap joint를 Co-curing 방법으로 제작하였으며, 제작된 시편의 강도 및 파손신호 검출 특성을 평가하였다. 균열과 파손신호 검출을 위하여 전기저항법과 AE법을 사용하였으며, 신호분석을 위한 전용회로를 제작하여 인장시험 중의 파손신호를 분석하였다. 실험결과, I-fiber 스티칭으로 보강된 Single-lap joint 시편은 보강이 없는 Co-cured single-lap joint 시편에 비해 강도가 약 44.6% 향상되었다. 또한, I-fiber로 보강된 Single-lap joint 시편은 강도 향상과 더불어 전기저항법과 AE법에 의한 파손 검출이 모두 가능하므로 파손 모니터링에도 효과적인 구조임을 확인하였다.

불확실성의 존재에서 관절 고장을 가지는 로봇 시스템에 대한 강인한 내고장 제어 (Robust Fault-Tolerant Control for a Robot System Anticipating Joint Failures in the Presence of Uncertainties)

  • This paper proposes a robust fault-tolerant control framework for robot manipulators to maintain the required performance and achieve task completion in the presence of both partial joint failures and complete joint failures and uncertainties. In the case of a complete joint failure or free-swinging joint failure causing the complete loss of torque on a joint, a fully-actuated robot manipulator can be viewed as an underactuated robot manipulator. To detect and identify a complete actuator failure, an on-line fault detection operation is also presented. The proposed fault-tolerant control system contains a robust adaptive controller overcoming partial joint failures based on robust adaptive control methodology, an on-line fault detector detecting and identifying complete joint failures, and a robust adaptive controller overcoming partial and complete joint failures, and so eventually it can face and overcome joint failures and uncertainties. Numerical simulations are conducted to validate the proposed robust fault-tolerant control scheme.

감육배관의 손상모드에 따른 음향방출 특성 (Acoustic Emmision Characteristics according to Failure Modes of Pipes with Local Wall Thinning)

  • Fracture behaviors of pipes with local wall thinning are very important for the integrity of nuclear power plant. However, effects of local wall thinning on strength and fracture behaviors of piping system were not well studied. Acoustic emission(AE) has been widely used in various fields because of its extreme sensitivity, dynamic detection ability and location of growing defects. In this study, we investigated failure modes of locally wall thinned pipes and AE signals by bending test. From test results, we could be divided four types of failure modes of ovalization, crack initiation after ovalization, local buckling and crack initiation after local buckling. And fracture behaviors such as elastic region, yielding region, plastic deformation region and crack progress region could be evaluated by AE counts, accumulative counts and time-frequency analysis during bending test. The result of the frequency range is expected to be basic data that can inspect plants in real-time.

  • A systematic way of failure diagnosis in a linear system with decentralized estimators is developed. The generalized likelihood ratio (G.L.R) approach to failure detection and identification is used for designing a diagnosis system in each subsystem based on the innovation analysis. For the simplicity of the theoretical formulation, a design scheme of failure diagnosis is developed for the system decomposed into two subsystems. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, several simulation studies have been carried out on a third-order linear system which is constructed of a second-order damped oscillator and a first-order lag.

Wavelet 변환을 이용한 절삭신호 분석과 노이즈 제거 (Analysis and Denoising of Cutting Force Using Wavelet Transform)

  • The wavelet transform is a popular tool fer studying intermittent and localized phenomena in signals. In this study the wavelet transform of cutting force signals was conducted for the detection of a tool failure in turning process. We used the Daubechies wavelet analyzing function to detect a sudden change in cutting signal level. A preliminary stepped workpiece which had intentionally a hard condition was cut by the inserted cermet tool and a tool dynamometer obtained cutting force signals. From the results of the wavelet transform, the obtained signals were divided into approximation terms and detailed terms. At tool failure, the approximation signals were suddenly increased and the detailed signals were extremely oscillated just before tool failure.
